I just realised the VFL is stacked. Footscray literally have English, Treloar, Smith, Martin, Libba, Lipinski and Duryea available for VFL. Ben Brown is available for Casey, Daniher for Brisbane, Jeremy ****ing Cameron for Geelong. They literally just took all the new recruits for every club and put them in their VFL teams. I'm actually tempted to play a VFL season now because the WAFL literally only has a few decent Fremantle and West Coast players.

Holy **** even Buddy is available for the Swans.

As mentioned above we're pretty busy with Rugby, Tennis, Cricket and some other as yet unannounced sports titles.

I have it, of course, but haven't been able to put enough time in, on the surface from the little I've played post patch/DLC, it's a roster update. I'd be more than happy to hear of things that you think are awesome, and that we should try to emulate in our titles.
Emulate in your titles ?

Well from an AFL perspective, one of the most frustrating things is having to hold down the kick button to get any sort of distance, and getting tackled before you have a chance to kick, when the AI can boot it a mile off one step, so the quick kick option (not sure what it's called in-game, Y on the Xbox controller) is a godsend.

I suspect it's a bit of a brute force hack rather than the AI being smart, but the short release option to a spare man in the back pocket always being an option is also excellent.

Someone here posted a detailed thread on how the controls could be improved (I have also posted similar), for example at ruck contests having controller icons above your midfielders heads and pressing one will direct your ruckman to tap in that direction. This could be expanded across the entire game, even as an optional control scheme where you could have several options to pass it to and they all have different icons above their heads. Their distance from you will determine if the button you press results in a kick or handpass.

That was probably me. I’m a big believer that you should be able to hold down a bumper/modifier trigger, which then plants one of the 4 XYAB symbols above each of your 4 closest team mates. Tap the one you want to fire off a handball.

I don’t believe it would be that hard to implement, as it wouldn’t require any actual gameplay changes from present. (I may be wrong)

I also think they should allow a bumper/modifier to enable “kickout camera” whenever you take a mark or get a free, so the camera rotates with the direction you intend to kick. This would allow switches when playing any form of end to end camera mode, soooo much easier.

Right now, unless theres a clear guy free on your radar map for the switch at full back, it’s an absolute lottery, even with locking on to one of your symbols.
If you could pivot to look, you could identify where to place the kick without lock on, which can be very beneficial when used elsewhere on the field.

I‘ve also suggested to WW that it would be a huge improvement to realistic gameplay if there was less 1v1 field wide (talked heaps about my experimentation to reduce this previously with mixed results), and more zonal setup behind the ball. Right now if say you have a kick in the back flank, you’ll almost always look up and sideways and see nothing but 1v1s (except if you set both teams to have spare in defence, which still doesn’t make much difference). In the final quarter this is a bit less likely, but I wish this would apply game-long.

Finally, it would be great if they expanded the in game tactics, which are pretty limited but full of potential.
Push/flood back behind the ball would be the first one desperately needed. Also, I cant even count the amount of times I’ve been run down due to accessing this menu while taking a kick after a mark or free. Why it can only be used when in possession, in real time, is insane!

So much work to do here. It's good, but could be so much better. We need some nuance in the contests (does anyone feel comfortable pressing the mark button just once when the game is on the line?) and the kick modifiers feel like a work in progress and along way from being intuitive.

But if I could chance one thing right now, it's L3 for bouncing the ball. Manual is the only way to play for me. but bouncing at the worst possible moment because you tensed up for a second is ridiculous.

Just wanted to ask, have you tried enabling "End-To-End For Frees/Marks" in the camera settings? This looks to be what you are after, when the camera moves behind you, you can use the right stick to rotate it.
Even if you don't have this turned on, you can still use the right stick to move the camera around on a free/mark from the side views.

One more thing I wanted to address, you can hit the mark button more than once, no penalty for that. You can even change your mind within the marking window, eg. if you want to spoil instead of mark.

Oh God this, the amount of time I randomly bounce the ball immediately after taking possession blows my mind that this wasn't picked up during testing.

Thank you Mr &/or Mrs Tru Blu Games, very useful.

Can I please ask a question that is killing me. After you download your live team from the Team of the Week screen and select 'save to default', and you are playing a regular season, can you update your team again during the season? If so, how? When I repeat the action the week following nothing happens.

If that is by design, isn't it a little mean that you disable the reserves and are forced to use the exact same team the entire season? Thanks. Hopefully I'm missing something obvious.

Thanks for replying Ross.

I might not have asked my question very well, I've been away from this forum and wondered what you thought of Evo 2 overall. But as someone else suggested I'll go back and check some of your older posts.

In answer to your question re Evo 2 and also I guess AFL games in general - some of these that would carry across-

First and foremost is gameplay, exactly why I was such a huge fan of BA's Live 1. Ironically also WW's weak point but they are clearly making leaps and bounds with this latest one and there is some hope for the future.

After that, some factors between love and like -

LOVE
- cross play
- local multiplayer
- a strong feeling that you are 100% in control of the player instead of pressing a button at the right time to trigger a little animation
- Make I easier to see who has the ball in the middle of a pack
- Some rag doll effects in contests and tackles would be awesome
- set in options - an advanced mode for the tragics (lots of technical controls and little manoeuvres) *AND* also a basic or party mode so you can play a big local multiplayer games with kids and casuals and everyone can have a laugh e.g. a button for mark / tackle / handball and a button for kicking.
- Live data feed keeping play lists updated and in position - surprised WW had the time and money, but it's here and it's very good. Well, perfect in an 'aren't-we-lucky-to-have-an-afl-game' sense, but very good in terms of implementation.
- The sliders - oh boy oh gee wow. WW's stroke of genius. Couldn't game without the now.
- Slider templates - where you can save sliders and play around with different rule sets without having to manually change them back
- Community hub, custom players etc - perfect. Another winner. We do though really need the ability to share slider templates in the hub. People could just gravitate to the one getting the most downloads. Excellent research for the developer too.
- More of a NEED. Really need to turn centre bounces into a proper mini game instead of a button mashing tacklefest. For me what would be perfect is having four player set ups - you could display them on screen - you select with the D pad and select if they run forward, run back or stay with their opponent. And ideally in the options you can change the pattern. Any way, you wouldn't need to show which one you selected as it's a very simple decision, so this would still work in local multiplayer. Then at the centre bounce the ruck taps at the right time and the winner of that selection then gets essentially a spare second with the ball depending on where the opposition put his players.

I hope that last one made sense. A very early AFL game dabbled with a light version of this idea.

Things I would LIKE

- ability to set an option so that single player seasons can continue year on year without ending up with a bunch of random fake characters. Maybe just keep letting clubs trade existing characters between teams, no one retires. As an option of course, not trying to replace any Pro features.
- Ability to handle a wider arrange of quick tactics on the fly - flood forward, flood back, spread wide etc.

Any more I'll add. Hope some of this was worthwhile. Thanks for reading!

wow, wasnt aware of this update - it makes such a great difference! i thought I only needed it for pure backline switches, but turns it its a godsend for centre corridor kicks from the back flank/wing, and also for kicking long to the fat side inside 50.

With the limited amount of non 1v1’s, it’s so good to be able to actually find free team mates and either lock on to them, or kick over their head to run in to.

Lads, repeating myself here but I can't recommend the PC version highly enough. I suspect the main ingredient is being able to play on ultra at 144mhz where everything is silky smooth, obviously not an option for everyone, but *if* you can, give it a whirl.
So it doesn't look blurry on high end pc?
I played on PS4 last year but couldn't get into it cos I found the blurry rendering just made it really hard to follow.

Not me, night and day coming from the Xbox version to PC.

Yep for me playing (Evo 1 and 2) on console then pc was like going from ps2 era to NBA2K inspired graphics. And the gameplay is very smooth, no stuttering. Plus the loading times are virtually instant!!!!! Depending on hardware of course.

But the console versions were easy for me to put up with due to the camera angle I set it on (I prefer side to side left/right rather than having the play go up and down/end to end).

Very clear, actually to the extent you feel like the graphics are 'good'. I should add I ponied up for a monster, currently running a 3090. But you'd think any good mid computer and graphics card would probably run rings around the specs.

What’re your specs? I’ve only got a 1060, been meaning to upgrade but too expensive at the moment

A better videocard and ram might make more of a difference. Evolution 1 ran fine (i5 3570k, 8gb ram, 780ti video card) loading times between matches were a bit random sometimes fast, sometimes slow.

Going from 8gb to 16gb ram improved things (the game sometimes stuttered while recording my games... stopped happening after that). Evolution 2 ran about the same as the console version for me at the start. Once I upgraded my videocard it was like Evo1 - gameplay super smooth.

I've been playing it on my recently purchased gaming laptop and its even better (mostly ssd related hence the instant loading times).

I'm running on a 2060 and its perfectly fine. If you struggle you could perhaps turn the crowd off, if it's not up to scratch for you.
Buy it on Steam and you can still refund it if you play for less than 2 hours, should be enough time to check the performance for you.

Nah that should surely be fine. I have a 1080 a PC spec’d around that from that same era, and never had a single stutter or slowdown with everything cranked.
Even now trying to get supersampling working to further reduce jaggies. If anyone has had success with this, let me know!

Hey ptrg can you please load your sliders on this. I have up difficulty as high as I can and I am still flogging teams. Would like a more realistic looking game. Thanks mate
