Yep and work the draw back from there, how we have our draws so bad I'll never know. I agree on GC they probably should get two in the last 10 rounds

I don’t think the academy has much to do with your premiership success over the past two seasons if thats where you think I’m coming from.
You’ve drafted and traded well, are well coached, and a couple of FS playing elite footy helps (not everyone has good genes!).
I’ve said this for many years, the academies need to be made even. As for how that affects the growth of the game and the engagement of talent and how to combat that I don’t know the answer. But academies should not benefit clubs differently to to each other.
Because we have a Canadian person making our fixture that is a closet Geelong supporter.
That and the AFL love $.

The unwritten subtext of nearly this whole thread is we want to destroy any advantage clubs get from Academies and father/sons. Once that is destroyed we still have advantages in go home factor, free Agency and free agency compensation.
Typically these guys are only interested in the inequalities that don't advantage there own club.
Things are all beer and skittles when you're raping the northern states lists but the minute THEY have a competitive edge you just want to smash it to pieces.

AFL cracks down on player eligibility in NGA revamp
Clubs must spend more time with Next Generation Academy prospects and register their interest earlier in order to get priority draft accesswww.afl.com.au
New nga rules - interesting that it mentions Cochrane will be assessed under the current nga rules. To me that bodes well for port Adelaide’s bid to have priority access of him
I think any side that made finals the season before should be given atleast three. As long as they play the Grand Final at the MCG they need to do everything they can to level the playing field as much as possible and it shouldn’t even be that difficultYep and work the draw back from there, how we have our draws so bad I'll never know. In my opinion the rule changes don't go far enough but I can cop that, as long as the matching rules also don't go far enough.Any current NGA player who has been identified by a club should be assessed under the current rules.
Anyone identified after whatever date these new rules start can be processed under the new rules.
The system is definitely better but there needs to be a black out of the first 4 picksIn my opinion the rule changes don't go far enough but I can cop that, as long as the matching rules also don't go far enough.

The teams that finish bottom 4 are most in need of assistance they should be able to pick any player they wish. I don’t think it’s good for the competition to have clubs stuck on the bottom for multiple seasons struggling with how compromised the draft has become we are fast heading towards a English premier league type competition were the same clubs will dominate every year. We are about to have the premier pick the best player in the draft it’s just a terribly bad systemWhy the first four? I don’t think your president would agree with that given the Saints have been floating mid-table.

My only issue with eligibility is that (from a Port Adelaide point of view so I'm more aware) I think the David Rodan sons will still qualify for NGA so their attempt at making it tougher, so kids with any AFL background aren't included in NGA has failed at the first hurdle. The system is definitely better but there needs to be a black out of the first 4 picks
This year? The new system is still a rort.
4 middle second rounds picks equals pick 1-3 is bs.

Even then it’s a rort.This year?
Next year is a maximum of 2 picks needed to match a bid.
This year is an issue still but that’s been recognised with further changes for next year.Even then it’s a rort.
I always look at the historical pick swaps. The team trading up tend to pay 25-50% more points under the old system.
The New system hasn’t reduce the points by 25-50%.

If they remove the discount and it takes 2 picks to match a bid at pick 1. It’s going to impact what’s possible for matching clubs.
Still not what I want. But I’ll admit it’s better
I can’t see them walking back anything with Twomey Cleary Ralph all reporting it.There is a chance the AFL walk back the proposed 2026 changes.
