Even then it’s a rort.

I always look at the historical pick swaps. The team trading up tend to pay 25-50% more points under the old system.

The New system hasn’t reduce the points by 25-50%.
For those top picks it’s likely teams will have to trade up to get enough points in two picks. You pretty much have to have your natural selection within 5 picks plus use your natural second round pick.

If you are getting a player rated much more than five picks inside your natural pick you will have to pay overs to trade up.

Whatever you think of it, I think we should be able to agree that they should stop changing it.

Bring in a rule that they can only change it ever 5(?) years, and then have to sit back and see how that works out in the 'real world', before they can change it again.

Actually, same should apply for all rule changes by the AFL.

5 years is too long to wait if there are issues, 2 years happy with that but 5 if there are issues and teams are rorting it is a huge issue. I trust Swann to make the right adjustments whether it be each year or every 2 years anyway. Likely won't change (or have significant changes) till after the Tasmania drafts anyway.

one would think we would find out the exact changes in the next few days. Trade period starts next week!

Clubs would have already been notified so I doubt you have to worry much

I was coming to ask if id missed something because we seem to have been half told the changes without a set article for it. So I haven't missed anything and we still dont have a proper breakdown of the changes?

It's after 5pm and Free Agency starts tomorrow.
Surely you weren't expecting the AFL to show any competence or professionalism by announcing any changes in a timely manner?
I thought at the very least it would've been announced to clubs by now. This is way beyond their usual levels of amateurism.

Like I said. There was always a (good) chance this was a soft sell via the media and they’ll see how this year goes and then walk back some stuff

One would think the Blues would like to know that before they decide whether or not they have to trade Curnow out for picks to be able match a bid on Walker... Might be helpful idk...

Are these clowns ever going to announce the changes?

It's that late in the piece clubs would have a very valid argument to delay the changes an extra year purely due to the mass incompetence at AFL house.

Trade period starts in less than 12 hours and we've still heard crickets.

Huh? Was announced a while ago

We heard the general ideas around the changes but from memory we've not seen anything official and in detail yet, no?
This is my thought, but its not as if no one has any clue what will happen. For the most part I am pretty confident in needing 2 picks maximum to bid, some re-zoning, and stricter requirements on involvement with players to fit NGA eligibility. But no you're right we do not have concrete and detailed layout yet.

It’s in the sticky post. I think the Tasmania list build concessions statement from the AFL has further information about the draft at the bottom…
There's still no specifics on that post, all we know is official changes are coming and the broad outline of it all.

We still don't know if there will there be changes to the DVI? is the discount remaining? Are top 4 teams allowed to match bids? How does this 'grading system' work?

Etc etc

They haven't released any specifics on any of it.

As far as I know the clubs haven't been complaining about a lack of information, so I suspect it's a bit like when the AFLW moved its start dates and changed its draft around two years ago, the clubs knew enough to make plans and not be caught out when things were finalised and formalised.

This is the most recent information, at the bottom of this list: https://www.afl.com.au/news/1435486/tasmania-devils-football-club-list-build-concessions

A major overhaul of the DVI has been announced already: details are in the pinned post.

Those are the changes already in for this year.
There's been some speculation about further changes by Greg Swan to start from next year. Cal Twomey has outlined these including..:
  • a limit of two picks allowed to be used for matching
  • some changes to the discounts allowed, potentially based on ladder position

It hasn't been specifically said if the dvi table would change again but some of the scenarios given by media implied there would be (or they were just totally wrong with their application of points etc)
