I fully respect Joe's tough decision. In his shoes I would have played given its a cut throat final, but can totally understand why he is putting his family first and should be respected for that.

Iirc Bradshaw missed a final against us years ago for similar reasons.

Publicly the club would be in full support, privately not so much…

When I told my wife he was missing as his Mrs is due to have a baby, ‘it’s a baby not open heart surgery, it’s not like he can take a couple of days off and turn up at work on Monday. You know there is such a thing as inducement? I would have had this all planned months ago.’

My reply, ‘but he will never get see the birth of his child again.’

Wife: ‘Yeah, well he and his wife better hope they win and the baby comes this weekend or it will always be brought up in conversations.’

Wife after a couple of minutes: ‘if that was us you would be playing and winning because that’s what I signed up for when I married you as an AFL footballer Plan these things, geez…’

*wife is an educated professional who has had children and usually accepts this stuff as ‘footballers are not the sharpest tools in the shed’, so I was surprised and thought I would open the debate…!

My thoughts, Joey knows they are going to get pumped so why bother!

Kicked the winning goal last week & eliminated the Ferals 😂
Correct.

Lucky he did, may not have been his choice to miss this week.
