Expectation for 100 year anniversary: heroic efforts, clutch moments, our superstars deliver, win by 20, club back on track, smiles and celebrations all around.

Really: good for 2 quarters, don’t know if captain is even playing, x injured, Larkey good but then hurts leg, umpires destroy us, bulldogs get off the chain, oh well we will be good one day.

Will we? Or will we always make excuses?

Geelong don’t need to bottom out and certainly don’t make excuses. They could be down to no bench and make it happen on their centenary night. That’s the difference.

I’d say “it’s been a long 6 years” but let’s be honest, when since the year 2000 or so has anyone felt like we’ve been a realistic chance of actually contending?
Our prelims since then we were making up numbers, always felt like our heads were just above water and bottoming out/rebuilding is an absolute cop-out.

I just want to see a few wins that matter, an ongoing high performance culture and I want some friggen hope for the future.

I must have watched a different game to everyone else, I thought the boys were undermanned with in-game injuries, we had important outs, and fought hard against some diabolical umpiring.

The fightback after giving up the 1st two goals in what seemed like 20 secs was good too.

Seems weird to lose ones mind over whether the captain had a smile or a frown on his face.

Side note: I like what I saw from Shotgun, I think we have a player there.

With our loss of experience I thought it'd be over in the first ten minutes, so I was pretty happy with the fight. Frustrating injuries to LDU, Larkey and then X wore me down so I'm not surprised that it all slipped away in the last quarter. All I ask is that we take something from this game; I never want to see the lack of effort of last week and Good Friday again. And it's up to the coaches to weed out the lesser players who are holding the side back. Loved the dare and the fire from guys like Kerch, Dawson, Harvey.

The dogs are flat track bullies and after last weeks complete non effort I feared that we would be on the end of a close to triple figures shellacking.

Instead of that we played with intent and even kept at it after LDU was subbed out of the game.

The longer the game wore on the more evident it became the difference between the two sides.

People who are setting their expectations that we are going to win games against sides that are significantly more advanced than we are, are devoid of perspective on where we are at as a side.

Is it what any of us wants? no. Is it where we are ? yes and us in the cheap seats have absolutely no control over that.

Agree, there were some real positives to take from last night’s game, the final margin was not a true indicator of how the game went imo. Good signs from Dawson & Cooper, Kerch was great, Larks and X battled on manfully. Was watching Dawson closely last night and I really enjoyed his game - he’s a big lump of a kid and he did a great job on another kid he’s likely to be playing on for the next 10-15 years in Darcy. Hopefully we get a few back this week and give it a real crack against Melbourne next week.

I thought the effort was pretty good all night considering changes and injuries we copped. Really like what Finbar brings to the forward line, he competes and without fail either marks or brings the ball the ground, would love to see what our Fwd line would look like with Banch in there roving the pack with PC and JK in amongst it too.
