Brett Burton would go close

Would have to agree with that. How many hangers did the Birdman take last year? He seemed to get one every second week. I remember in the Prelim against West Coast it was his first game back after doing his hammy i think and his first touch was from a big hanger in the Crows defensive 50.

In saying that though, this year Ryder has taken a few really good marks from high leaps.

Does anyone think that overall though this year the marking quality has been down? There hasnt really been any real standouts this year, maybe with the exception of Mark McVeigh's hanger against the Blues

I don't think i've ever seen anyone leap like Ryder has on an AFL field. What makes that picture all the more amazing is that he didn't use his hands or anything to lift himself up, just ambled in and leapt onto Charman's shoulders.

Would love to know what his draft camp results were for the vertical leap.

You are all wrong.

The correct answer is Carl Peterson.

He can cleany jump over 198 cm.

Yep, he can jump over most ruckman standing tall without touching them.

With OP.

At the APS aths day last Tom Hawkins won the high jump doing 198 or 199

High jump isn't necesserily the best way to determine the 'biggest leap' as a lot of it is based on techniqe i.e. the 'Frosby [sp?] flop'

One of Richmonds recruits Carl Peterson apparently jumped 198cm in a school high jump comp.

I believe he had the opportunity to become a professional athlete, but he loves his footy too much and turned the offer down. :D

For the first time in 2-3 years he is fully fit with no OP and isn't playing on painkillers. I hope he's more than just a highlight reel :)

Maybe so, but the old frosby flop isn't a very useful ruck/marking technique.

I havn't seen him play though so I won't compare him to Ryder/Burton but holding high jump records doesn't always mean you'll have a great AFL leap.

im not sure if it was that picture or not... but paddy actually got up really high at one centre bounce and was paid a free against him.. not sure if it wsa that picture or not... but he has shown time and time again this year he doesnt use his hands at all and the way he glides in the air is almost graceful...
i did look up the draft camp records for his year (2005) and he didnt present in the top 10... certainly though the difference that is noticeable this year too last is that he is playing wiht alot more confidence... and with more confidence paddy will just grow and grow
