Yeah they won 2 finals just inspite of Scott. That showed him he is not wanted. They have an interesting way of showing it.
Are you intentionally being infuriating?? He didn't say that player retention was the be all and end all. Just that we have been good at it.Yeah, I know I support the club mainly for player retention.
They lost the best forward in the league. He was clearly referring to recruiting and retaining players.

Keeping our best players. Even the mighty Hawks fall short.

Swap Clarkson and Scott and we would be on the way to a 3 peat? They lost the best forward in the league.
They won the flag the next year.
They're widely considered the favourite for the flag this year.
We signed a couple of blokes who have shifted us marginally closer to a flag.
We also signed up a bloke until 2017, who we apparently no longer want.
Not all that shimmers is gold.

We have just won 5 in a row.I was more referring to the fairly regular ten goal beltings, the complacency and poor quarters every week and the infuriating inconsistency.

We lost to 18th by 10 goals. We have just won 5 in a row.
Dam Scott and those inconsistant complacent players. It's so regular that we won 5 regular games in a row.
Riiighhtttttt - everything good is the other coaches and development staff - everything bad is Scott's fault. You're probably doing the rest of the coaching and development staff a bit of a disservice there.
Regardless, the end goal is the win flags. Until we improve in a number of key areas, player retention and free agency isn't going to get us there.
What a crap post.

Geelong was a good win. The other four wins were against bottom five sides - obviously you still have to win them and we have done so, but given we were 6-7 going into this run of easier fixtures, we're still not a guarantee of playing finals.
Even within this run of wins has been the propensity to switch off or drop intensity (2nd against Brisbane, 2nd against Carlton, 2nd and 3rd against Melbourne, 1st half against *Essendon). This has been happening throughout Scott's tenure, which suggests players don't take the right mindset into games/quarters.
But please, continue to reduce the debate to cherry-picking stats and spitting out cliches. All the most insightful posts in this thread have gone unanswered by yourself, Phillyroo and kelman anyway.
I don't know, I was quite a fan of the fade out in the first half of the Essendon final last year. Made the end result that much better.Irrespective if we come back and win this game against the Saints, I dread the humiliation of finals footy.
Finals footy who ever we play will smash us of the ball park with our regular 2nd quarter fade outs.
If the players are struggling now with pressure with poor disposals then look out come September.
