Maybe the $4m or so we have tied up in 5 midfielders can actually recognize that, occasionally, they have to defend a stoppage.

Keays worked us out perfectly. Libba is our only mid who is happy to defend the exit, the others just want the ball and if they don't win it they're chasing tail.

They even did it while Cordy chopped out. I'm sure at lot of people week will point the finger at some fringe kids only just establishing themselves in the AFL system but it's our senior regulars that are the drivers of how we play. At key times today they just didn't assess the situation well.
Same as the GF. We got destroyed. Our midfield is good on paper. Is is that good to ignore a KPD or small forward. JJ may be that.

It gets a little tiresome watching on as our mids hunt the ball en masse only to see it squirt out wide and into the arms of an opponent not sucked into the contest. Its what happened in the Grand Final and its what regularly happens when we lose.

There’s a general malaise which is concerning. Time to make some calls for me. I genuinely don’t see another team picking up Schache so why persist. Stop trying to play vfl mids and blindingly hope they will be afl small forwards.

Yeah, I agree. Some meaningful list changes is a must. Not just a couple in, a couple out.

I think we’re due for a clean.

It was a joke aimed squarely at the playing group and its insipid display today.

Im sorry if you took it personally.

Anyways this a forum. Say whatever you like to whomever you like.

If you cant use this place to vent after todays efforts, what's the point of it.

No worries. I'm just dirty AS. What a goddamn waste.

The trouble is, the faith I have in the coaching team will see us lose some good cattle instead of those we should lose. Same calculation as selection will apply.

So, as a very very staunch supporter of the current coaching regime and massive critic of anyone who suggests otherwise, at what point will you be concerned if our list continues to underperform?
As I’ve stated I’m 100% Bevo but we’re 2 wins currently which is massively underperforming by all.

In short... I definitely wouldn’t extend Bevos contract if it was up this season. And even if we don’t perform too badly going in to 2023 off season, I wouldn’t extend. Bevo has almost a season and a half to win us another flag and then we bring in the next latest and greatest.

I’d go pretty hard in the off season list changes and I’d try to bring in another assistant too. Regardless of how we go for the rest of the season.

Note: I haven’t written off the season yet, and wouldn’t be surprised if we go deep again. But, I acknowledge the end is near for Bev.

Just wanting to ask why your side has been misfiring. I had you guys as favorites to win the flag before the season started. You guys has some key players out today so i hoped we might keep it close but it was not the dogs all out dominance like we usually cop at mars or what we saw in the prelim last year.

Get your missing players back and a couple of wins and i still think you guys will turn it around quick smart.

Good luck for the rest of the year
Sure we had some players out today, but its the same issue that has plagued this side for some time.

If a team can pressure our ball carriers for extended periods of time then our disposal efficiency drops off dramatically.

Nicks like most coaches is well aware of this fact. Putting aside the 10 minute period late in the first when the game opens up in our favour.

Last week norf couldn't and paid the price. This week your team stuck to this task relentlessly and it paid off to the tune of 4 points.

Well that wasn't worth getting up at the crack of dawn to watch.

For anyone who was at the game: Was the continual bombing down the line justified? That is, were we so poor at making space inside, or were Adelaide so good at defending it, that that was the only option we had? I find it difficult to get a read on this sort of thing without being there to see the bigger picture, but from my couch it seemed baffling.

If I were to take one positive out of the game, it would be that (our) O'Brien's marking was looking pretty good---certainly better than last week. Other than that… not an enjoyable game from a spectator's perspective.
Believe it or not my teenage son and I had an enjoyable day at the footy. Could have obviously been better. We were behind a large group of middle aged crows fans who were top blokes. They had one bulldog in their group. There was some funny banter and all good natured. We had t-shirts on all day, very warm in the sun. It was an extremely slow boring first half. But the last quarter was exciting when we hit the lead.
Our vantage point wasn’t as high as Marvel so seeing who played well is always harder. Libba, Ed Richards, Tim O, Taylor Duryea, and Bailey Smith stood out to me. Naughts, Gardiner, Dunks and Dale were going good too.

History says that teams that got flogged in the GF don’t back up well the next season.

In Bevo's infamous round 1 presser he alluded to the impacts of the soft cap on the team. I really wonder how much of an issue it has been for the club and if/why we've struggled to adapt to it more than most clubs..
As much as the narrative around assistants at the club is typically sheeted home to a dictator Bevo meme. Its pretty obvious that the soft cap has had a much bigger affect on our ability to retain these guys. Its also natural that clubs would head-hunt them given for the most part they'd played an integral role in our success and us making it to the most recent grand final. Or that they would be looking for fresh opportunities.

That we didn't really attract anybody of note to fill their roles is the real question. Its hard to escape the feeling that it was a penny pinching move.

However, I dont think it was the quality of the assistants to Bevo that lost us the game today. That is squarely on the players and their inability to exhibit some of the most fundamental skills of the game under any sort of pressure.

Fair enough..but in reality add English, Keath and a few others and it enough for the dogs to win today. I am sure things will turn as you guys have way too much talent for it not to

Some horrid GPS numbers from today...

-40 in sprint efforts today (178 - 218)
-5.64km in total distance run (230.84km - 236.48km)
So are they incapable or just unwilling?

The problem with Caleb Daniel when he's out of form is that he becomes a serious liability. When he's playing well his impact is enough to offset his limitations and he becomes a net benefit to the team. When he isn't able to impact with his footskills, his inability to lay an effective tackle or impact the aerial contest really starts to hurt us. You just cannot be on an AFL team at his height unless you're playing exceptionally good footy.

This game reminded me a lot of the game late last year against Hawthorn where every area of the game was terrible. Last year the side had gears it could go up to, but this year I’m not sure they exist. It’s starting to have a 2018 vibe where there’s some deep seated issues at the club that need fixing.

Theres no denying that we have a pretty extensive injury and unavailability list to key players, but on paper we still should've had enough out there to scrape by and collect the win. It would've taken a big effort but the opportunity was there. However, the guys that took the field proved that games aren't won on paper, but on grass and with a slight breeze going towards an end where we could manage a pitiful two goals. You guys wanted it more today and executed a plan that we didnt cope with...again. Its really that simple.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Didnt.

Who are the injured mid/small forwards that replace him, we have very few genuine small forwards we have lots of mids we try and play as small forwards who aren't. He is in his 3rd year from memory and has more upside than most in the team.
If Vandermeer and Johannsien were fit (or even McLean), there is every chance I'd want to pick some combination of them to be small forwards ahead of Weightman

Keen observation - insert height variable , form variable , position variable, press enter……..

When player x is playing well he is good , when he is not playing well he is no good. Grunt grunt , dribble dribble.

Glad petrol prices are at least down a bit. Nothing like driving 2+ hours to watch a train wreck. Full credit to Adelaide who allowed us very little run and were better than us. Both teams though were shite though. The AFLW games were more enjoyable to watch and I only sat through 2 of them.
Bright lights few and far between. Richards continues to be clean since round 1 down back, Gardner will continue to get better.
Midfield continues to be over rated and appear to have been worked out.
Not mater how many he kicked last week, Weightman needs to work on the KISS principle, not ever possession needs to be a highlight reel.
I’m so bummed after today that I’ve almost even lost faith in the Schac. No more fumbling below the knees or you can go.
Caleb stop delivering us into evil. You do us much fame as good with your pirouettes.

Now off to track down where Zac Butters lives as I’m sick of his BS SC scores. Enough is friggin enough
