Carlton's list

A couple of players away from looking like a much better side.
A quality in and under player:
Someone like a Mitch Hallahan who would come cheap and is developing into a good player. ala Josh Kennedy (just an example, not suggesting Hallahan is anywhere as good)

A CHF:
Maybe a GWS boy, they have a plethora of big forwards. This would allow Henderson to become the AA CHB that he should be.

A quality 3rd tall who can kick 30-40 goals:
Someone that can fill the void left by Eddie, a quality 3rd tall might take the pressure off Garlett and allow him to shine.

A quality outside runner: A Hill/Smith type.

Then all of a sudden, the return to fitness of injured players, some of the "struggling" players have less pressure, less attention and are allowed to develop with more confidence.

I'd be looking more closely at the coaches, are they developing the players they have?

Agree with your suggestions but Cripps probably fits the in and under player - broken leg at the moment.

Obviously we need a CHF. But I think we also need another kPD as well. Rowe has been ok but I'd like a younger one coming through as well.

And we definitely need a quality outside runner. We struggle to get that link up play. We have Lucas but he can't kick so that's useless.

First pick to a tall.
Second pick to an outside runner who can kick.

Overall we need at least 2 talls from this offseason - draft & trade.

And to your last question re:development - in the Ratten years it was deplorable. Severely undermanned and the VFL was treated as a joke by Ratten and the other coaches. We had a part time VFL coach. Players treated it as a joke etc.
VFL has definitely been given more attention since Mick came however we still lack development coaches. The new president has said fixing out "under resourced development" program will be a priority + recruiting. Fingers crossed.

No, you wouldn't, but you could

You'd hang on to Judd (for leadership more than playing ability), Murphy, Gibbs, Yarran, Henderson, Kruezer.
You'd try get something for Walker, Warnock and Lucas (maybe Garlett too)

Realistically you could put the names of 34 others into a hat and draw out the 10 you are going to delist.

Edit: and you'd keep anyone you'd drafted in last 2 years...
Lol but who was Menzel? More talent than 98% of your list in his left boot alone.

I see there are some WA players on that list you mentioned. I wouldnt mind giving Simon White a 1 year contract. Not exactly forward by could be a good mid.

I reckon West Coast might go after a couple of mids at the right price.

But lets be realistic here. Thats 19 players you mentioned above, That would take 2-4 seasons to get rid of all of them. Freo were in a Similar position back in 2008 and did the culling over 2-3 seasons. Freo had around 5-6 retirements In Matt Carr, Peter Bell, Shaun McManus, Heath Black and Jeff Farmer. Josh Carr walked out and went back to Port, Warnock Ironically got traded to your club. Then at the end of 2009, freo culled another 5-7 guys off the list then another 6 in 2010.

This season carlton will retire some of the older heads and Trade delist a few guys. Next season, they will cull the duds.
Simon White forward? In the midfield? Have you ever seen Simon White play?

I fell of my chair when I heard gibbs talk about winning premierships in the next 5 years. It is this sort of delusion that holds clubs like carlton, Richmond and Essendon back. Carlton are full of mentally weak players like Andrew walker who play above expectation against the 'better' teams because there is simply no performance pressure on him. Come up against the demons and anyone can beat him. These arrogant clubs need a reality check and then once they go back to the drawing board they can finally move forward. The drafting of daisy Thomas when they still don't have a key forward is still one of the funniest recruiting moves ive seen.
Which Key Forward Free Agent would you have had us pick instead of Daisy? You can only work with what is there.

neither can we

It looks more than likely, McLean, will be delisted this year. Graham is the same type of player but will be around for 10 years, so it's confusing why he isn't played.

I don't know what value there is of playing Waite either. He is 31, he won't be around beyond this year.

Season 2014 looks like a completely wasted year for Carlton. Apart from Cripps, who showed promise and perhaps seeing Menzel and Docherty play, the cupboard is very bare at Carlton for young players.

Collingwood have Sidebottom who can't kick but isn't useless. We've struggled over the last couple of weeks without him.

There's can't kick, and then there's Lucas. You saw him play against your mob last time we played. He hasn't played since. And rightly so.

Well that's not entirely true. It may feel true and there may be posters that make you feel that way but as a moderator there, and as someone who posts constructive criticism as above, I'm not about to shut down all criticism. Depends on how a poster expresses it, depends on whether it turns hostile and depends on whether a poster also shows balance and can identify positives if they exist.
Sounds as though there are more grey areas on the Carlton board than there are in the 'laws of the game'...

Had a look at their team on Sunday.

They have Waite (31), Judd (30), Simpson (30) and Carrazzo (31) as plus 30 year olds.

Has a side that can't make finals ever played so many 30 year olds?

From the outside looking in. Our rules thread is clear.

Seems are though an unusually high number of Carlton posters are disillusioned with the Carlton board.

Maybe that's just from the outside looking in as well...

Might want to check their posting styles and level of contribution. You really want to talk about Carlton board moderation here?

No. Never ever.

St Kilda are playing 5 players over 30 years old this weekend.

Correct, but they have Billings (18), Dunstan (18) & the like in their team. They are playing older players to absorb the amount of young players in their team.

I'm not sure what youngsters Carlton have in their team. Menzel?

In addition to the 4 I raised, there is Walker (28), McLean (28) & Jamieson (28). What direction are Carlton heading with their age demographic?
