He's not an AFL CHF, but I don't mind him as the 2nd ruckCasboult? Come on mate, smell the roses.

He could be one of the best contested marks in the competition, a trait thats rarely seen. Has the body to be a monster, just needs to improve (note that he already has improved leaps and bounds this season to be fairly reliable from a long distance) his kicking to an elite level and how could you not say hes a premier power forward?
Ideally he could lose some weight to gain more agility, but his output this year cant really be questioned can it? "Smell the roses" isnt really an argument is it? If he plays at the level he has the last month, hes easily top 5 power forwards in the competition.
You think Menzel as a pick 9 is worth more than a 16 after playing less than 20 games…..
He got 2 touches last game… 2
But you feel free to go ahead and pay more…
Go Catters
How long has he been on your list? and his kicking is still horrific.
TOP 5? This month? no chance!

Hes been on our list quite a while, what does that have to do with anything? If a player is on a list for 5 years without getting a game, then gets a game and plays really well, is his output discounted because he hadnt been playing previous years? Barlow spent years playing VFL for Werribee and stepped in to Fremantle and dominated, but does he have some kind of scale down because he hasnt played AFL all of his life?
I look at other monsters of the comp, Travis Cloke being the highest profile. He still cant kick at an elite level, misses shockers, and goes missing for entire games.
Kurt Tippett can hardly get out on the park and isnt really famous for leaving the F50 or doing solid ruck duties around the ground like Levi is
Tex Walker is probably better at everything except rucking and marking than Casboult
NRoo cant mark anywhere near Casboult and is just as a reliable kick, but obviously moves much better around the ground
Roughead again, not as good a mark but moves better and kicks better, easily a better player and occupies top 5
My point is, Casboult based on this years performance isnt to far behind these guys, and is better in one of the most important areas than all of them quite easily (marking obv). His kicking has improved, hes far from horrific (unless you consider Cloke horrific, but you're just a harsh judge if thats the case), and can continue to improve
No chance isnt an argument, I dont think you've paid close attention to what hes done. If he does it every week for the year out, then hes easily a top power forward in the game
Why you think we want him. That's 2 more touches than his brother who you keep giving contracts to despite having 0 touches.
I don't think it is right for you to mention those players and Casboult in the same sentence, you have mentioned guys who have pushed hard for colemans and consistently kick 50 goals a year, how many is Casboult on this year?
Im not saying hes there yet, I'm saying hes shown that if he performs consistently at the level he has the past month and improves on a few things, he could easily do that over the course of the year
Im not saying hes better than any of those guys, or on their level (except marking), I'm saying he has the potential to do that, I dont see how you could disagree with that given what hes shown this year
This has been established months ago, are you just touting that line as an attempt to subtle troll or just been living under a rock the last few months?
We had several semi finals appearances with no success, we felt we needed to do something different to take the next step. People easily forget Ratten was the laughing stock of the AFL coaches panel when he was with Carlton, the same jeers of "sign Brock again" we hear in this thread we were hearing about Ratten when we lost to the GC before we sacked him
I still think we have a score group of 8 players (bolded below) we could build a flag winning team around, looking something like this using our current list
B: _______ Jameson ______
HB: Yarren Rowe Buckley
C: Gibbs ________ ________
HF: Thomas Casboult Everitt
F: Garlett Henderson Menzel
R: Warnock Murphy Cripps
With players like Kruezer, Docherty, Johnson, Graham have some value somewhere, whether it be on the ground or on the trade table
The key inclusions needs to be two players to fit into the centre with Gibbs, one ball winner and one outside runner whos a good user
Another medium sized defender who can play a defensive role
The unbolded players are up for debate on whether theyre good enough, but I think they have the potential to be. If there are better options out there though I'd be happy to explore them
couple points i'll make.
1. I've seen enough of Docherty to know he's gonna be a serious player for us.
2. garlett's afl career is on thin ice. just too mentally weak. get him out of there.
3. like carlisle at Essendon, Henderson looks far more comfortable as a backman, which makes rowe redundant.
4. warnocks uselessness around ground doesn't make up for slightly above average tap ruckmen. roll with kruezer.
5. buckley too small to be defender period. defeinitly a talent, not sure where his best position is yet though.

I agree Buckley will have a tough time of it as a defender unless he's playing on the truly small ones. He might find himself as a run with on-baller, but again, only on the smaller mids.
Has he got the tricks to be a forward? not sure. He's quick enough, but that's about it.
The coach rates him, so he's half way home to wherever he ends up.

maybe could be used as like puopolo in that small forward frontal pressure role...
Buckley is the same height as Murphy, Garlett, Armfield, Ellard, Temay etc.
He was moved INTO the back line to find his place. Was struggling elsewhere.
He was providing Carlton with line breaking run out of defence - Yarrans role, which allowed Yarran to move forward.
His role is quite settled for mine.

If he plays at the same level he has in the last month he is nowhere near an top 5 power forward. Power forwards kick goals. Levi has kicked 6 goals in the last 4 weeks. Which admittedly is good for him. 9 goals for the year, if he keeps this up he will just fall short of 20 for the year.He could be one of the best contested marks in the competition, a trait thats rarely seen. Every club has youth but compared to other clubs, Carlton's young players are in short supply.
You look at players like Kane Lucas & Matthew Watson and wonder what is going on with Carlton's development of young players.
Buckley was always going to star.
And Curnow was awesome before Malthouse arrived.
Lets take a look at Graham, Temay, Watson, .....ooops. But yeah - lets just keep on playing Brock.
HEre's a tip - you know that Menzel bloke, absolute natural star - wants out.
Didn't get a kick on Sunday, sorry 2. Almost same stats as Blair, sub at 3/4 time.
Why ? Game plan.
Not the only one.
He's not an AFL CHF, but I don't mind him as the 2nd ruck
Unfortunately he won't ever have the game sense that Roughy has. Roughy is as good when the ball hit's the ground as a guy half his size, that's the "bit" Cas probably will never have, so in that regard he might end up just being a "good" forward.
Watson is 29 and still has at least three years left with the likes of Heppell looking very much able to take over within that time.
Fletcher's been gone every year since 2009 and isn't even that important any more. Hooker and Hurley are our two KPD.
Stanton's 28 and would be fifth in line in our midfield behind Watson, Heppell, Goddard and Zaharakis.
No youth coming through? LOL. Heppell, Carlisle, Zach Merrett, Jackson Merrett, Marty Gleeson, Patrick Ambrose on top of Daniher and that's just our proven young talent off the top of my head.
Essendon's list is vastly superior to Carlton's.
