He was good enough to execute, we were dead in the water - he’s such a great finisher

However… he just didn’t have the legs.

And the reason for that was Ollie Dempsey blowing him up with his around the ground running.

I don’t think that was highlighted enough.

And Dempsey in his post game interview was bouncing around talking about how much he loved running the wide wings of the MCG 🤣🤣
Dempsey is also always bouncing around with enthusiasm on the field.

Said during the week that the coaches were wanting to push Mullin into the midfield. Closing speed is massive and he's a very strong lad.

Wouldn't be surpised if they doubled up and sent him to Tom Green next week. If he gets his hands on the ball he's a very good user - apart from playing that lockdown role. Won't be too many keep Nick Daicos to 3 touches in a quarter.

Thank God, so for the moment we won't have any more posts saying Mullin's not going to make it.
Testament to patience, and check out his body- hard gym work.

The umpires definitely hurried the game up in the end to give Collingwood a chance.

That ruck holding the ball was 50/50 and wouldn’t have been paid if it was 10 mins into the first quarter.

They could sense a good game and fairytale finish too.

It wasn’t like they were actively working to help one team. There were moments when both teams had it go their way.
I might be in the minority but I thought that holding the ball was absolutely there. Blitz made absolutely no effort to get rid of the ball. He just held onto it.
He should have tried to drop it onto the left boot.

A lot of flaws can be covered by a win, but a lot of good can come from them, too.

I'm happy with 5-3 and am still very much in the "let them figure it out" mold when it comes to the forward line. I am seeing a more effective setup every week and they still have only played about 12 games that way, and only six with Bailey Smith leading the midfield charge.

We're getting games into players who need to learn or just find touch. I'm not conviced O'Sullivan is best 18 yet - but how priceless have the past three weeks been for him?

On a side note - how obvious is it that Atkins was NQR last year? He hasn't looked like this since 2022.

PS Before we get carried away with Mullin, we are talking about a guy in the middle who had 9 touches and whose opponent had 28. I'm not saying it's a bust, and I've been calling for us to tag all year ... but I'd want a slightly better result than last night. Still, everything old eventually becomes new again. We can dial it all the way back to the taggers of the 1990s if it works.

Possibly. The giants look awful atm though. Depending on who’s available, I wouldn’t play Kolo at this stage.

Kolo will come straight back in i think it's needed to cover off some of the 1 v 1 defending that osullivan struggles with, especially with blicavs having to ruck and hogan there.

Kolo for stanley and miers for humphries is what i would expect.
Knevitt is a possible if hes fit but they might bring him back through the vfl.

The next 3 weeks are huge for us and i hope the coaches emphasise it to the team. After the wce game the draw is friendly-we only play 3 current top 8 teams after that and 2 of them are at gmhba.

We cant afford to drop the next 3 but if we can win 2 of them or pinch all three, then 7 and 4 into the wce game gives us a real platform to finish in the top 6. It's an even comp and we need to bank as many wins as we can until we get players back.

Raw disposals don't tell the whole story though.

Daicos was hardly terrible, but I thought Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Cameron, Jaicos and Mihocek hurt us a lot more.

He had a really good second quarter (10 or so touches, most of them clean ones), but besides that was a bit scrappy and wasn't dominant.

If we remove the rose colored (blue and white) glasses I don't think there's much contention around the Blicavs holding the ball.

Mannagh decision was correct. Kings reference to "spirit of the game" were the ramblings of a punch drunk fool who possibly had a bit riding on it at Sportsbet. The rule book says nothing about spirit of the game but it does say that if the tackle finishes below the knees it's a free kick - regardless of where the tackle was initiated.

Outside of that I don't even think there were even that many 50/50 free kicks in the last. And whatever one's there were would likely be negated over the full 100 minutes played. The media just love cheerleading the Pies as it gets ratings and sells papers. Everyone is focusing on the Bobby Hill tackle in the last few minutes - understandably. The 50m against Daicos should have put Mullin 35-40m out having a shot at goal - instead it was literally a 30m penalty. I'm guessing the Pies supporters will overlook that one.

Pies couldn't get it done against a side that was a man down at quarter time (our ruckman) -- they missed 5-6 very gettable shots at goal (at least 3 in the last) - and they were beaten by a side with 4 absolute best 22 players missing (Miers Stewart Kolo Henry). And for all the carry on about the Pies experience, I didn't hear too much reference to a third of Geelong's team last night having played less than 30 games.

Roll it up and stick it in your pipe you feral Collingwood bacteria ridden vermin. We'll see you in September.

Went close to having a very, very good game.

I thought Sam played really well. Brody Mihocek is a really good player; difficult prospect as Curtly Ambrose once said of David Boon.

SDK played well for 3 quarters, but Mihocek looked capable of winning the game for Collingwood late.

Good contest.
Watching that last qtr again… I am quite confident if we had Henry, Stewart and or kolo in the side, mihocek does not take any of those contested marks.

He played off osullivan for marks that an experienced defender wouldn’t have allowed to happen.

Jeez David King likes having a sook, doesn't he?

Did he have anything to say last week, when the free kick count for the 2nd half was 11-2 Carlton's way? Or the week before when Hawthorn were similarly favoured? Of course not, because he's a one-eyed smoothbrain who barracks against us every game we play.
If someone is using the free kick count to make a point, you can basically immediately dismiss them. Even if a Geelong fan does the same, I know to tune out.

Free kicks can go up because a desperate team gets sloppy or panicked or they are stretching to try to assert themselves or apply pressure, or because they are fatigued. Was any that part of King's analysis? No. Did he look at each incident and assess it on its merits based on the actual rules? No.

Of course there are times when incorrect free kicks are given. And sometimes they come in groups. An unbalanced free kick count might give us reason to review what happened to look for issues. But point me to the specific incident, and the rule, and walk me through why it's wrong. Or else seriously, STFU.

I just wish Fox or 7 would have the courage to build a commentary team around the likes of Matt Hill, using similar types, with only the odd ex player.

It'd return commentary to a purer analysis of the game with less bias and stupidity imo.

Their first mistake was deciding ex-star players were a priority over competent calling. And their special comments aren't that special, so obvious, vanilla cliches. I think recent retirees with demonstrable communication and analysis skills, selected through a screening process. not the old boys club would play better with fans.
Recent ex-coaches do much better. Put Simpson or Longmire in there.

Scratcher! He’s building. Good marks. Maybe still a bit shy of contact for a big bloke. Much better this season.
I actually think he’s gone backwards from the glimpses he showed last year. Not even close to impacting games and apart from providing ruck cover last night, was pretty ordinary again.

And Cameron not far behind

We need to take the Geelong goggles off.

Blitz picked up the ball, was tackled, had an arm free and just refused to even attempt a disposal. That is holding the ball 100%.
I don’t have Geelong goggles on. Hill was stiff not to get HTB against Mannagh.

You can’t attempt a disposal when you’re immediately tackled.
