The thing I always🍫
I don’t think we are at a stage where the coaching group are needing this-they know what Knevitt and Clark provide and will select as needed.

Fans want to see more and want that opportunity to prove they are more than we’ve seen, but the coaching group wouldn’t be thinking an additional 15-20 mins of Clark adds anything.

In my opinion the way we select- A breakout Qtr and he still gets replaced by Duncan or Knevitt if the role required changes in two weeks.
I just think no-one wanted to come of. \he was on the bench ready for a while.

While it would be nice not to have umpires give free kicks for flops they are human and mistakes can happen.

The solution is to start handing out suspensions for it that scale the more you do it.

First time 1 week
Second time 2 weeks
3rd time 4 weeks
4th time 8 weeks
etc

I bet players stop flopping rather quickly

That's true. The fining players for staging is a joke. You need to actually suspend them.

Would class that as one of the more enjoyable wins in last 5 years

Tend to agree (and there have been plenty of enjoyable ones) was obviously barracking my guts out all night but it went up a notch after the incident with Rayner, and then him taunting the crowd, don't think I've wanted a win so badly for quite some time, just to wipe the smug look off his face.

Fantastic team effort of complete dominance, straighten up our kicking early, remove the three goals we gifted them (two to Rayner and one to Lohmann) and that was a ten goal plus victory.

Bris are stuffed even if they win next week. Neale gone, Hipwood has a partial ACL tear. They're breaking down at the wrong time.

They certainly are very banged up. I dont actually rate Collingwood but they will beat brisbane and get to a GF i think because of how injured Brisbane are. Which is good for us because I would be very confident taking on Collingwood in a GF.

The biggest problem with the Rayner free was that he totally flopped, It’s not a push, it’s a niggle which is part of the game. The umpire should’ve been smarter in this instance and given a warning, he got sucked in and also got sucked in by Lohman. It’s not worth the penalty. Paying these just encourages players to drop at any contact and whilst there are illegal pushes in the game, last I recall you’re allowed to make contact within reason, it’s a contact sport. I agree that Guthrie shouldn’t have gone in, but that second one Rayner looked right at the ump and smiled, umpire should’ve used discretion and said no, you got one.

They do need a rule change completely, there should never be double goals, if you pay that one against Guthrie, pay it in the centre.

Where would the free be paid if Rayner ‘pushed’ O’Connor? I imagine it would be where the ball was, which isn’t remotely as advantageous as it was for Brisbane. You can’t have that kind of inconsistency.

Besides all this, I think Geelong is very good at proving that those umpiring decisions don’t decide the outcome of games. Good teams overcome anything.

Am I allowed to quote my own previous posts.?

Well im.going to. This from the port Adelaide game review thread.

"Loved Mullin and he is so important going forward given we probably play Collingwood at some stage and we see what happens to them when Daicos is shutdown

I hope his first goal comes soon. I'm backing him to get a big one in a final."

Bang!!!!!!!

Nah it’s an add on that doesn’t feel right.. no one sings it, atmosphere drops when it rolls in

How exactly is it an "add on" when it's always been there though - an "add on" would suggest it's only new which it isn't

The stubby holder I've been taken to games for 15 odd years has both verses of the song, so it's clearly not something new that the club has only just now decided to use. I also had a Cats badge which was shaped & striped as our guernsey with the words, "Stand Up and Fight" on it, and it had a bit of age on it when I bought it a good decade ago - pissed off because the backing fell off & I lost it

The pump up video prior to the team entry this year refers to various lines throughout that verse, and finishes with, "Because we’re the mighty blue and white"

Plus, we know that the club has long used the "Stand Up and Fight" slogan, and then when we look at the branding the club has introduced over the past decade with "Our Tradition" and "Our Ambition", it's all taken from the second verse of the song - from 2017
"What is Greatness?
Greatness. Our tradition. Our ambition."

And last night the second verse was being sung loud after the game - that last line of, "Stand Up and Fight Like Hell" is almost a battle cry that we can get behind

So while there seems to be some fans who don't get behind the second verse, when you look into how the club operates, the wording their using, how they're trying to connect into the past etc, you can start to tell the significance of that second verse regarding what we're doing moving forward

I did think at the time the decision to select Clark over Bews was a show of faith for Bowes. If you bring Bews in, he has to be a starter as a lockdown defender and Bowes is a strong candidate for sub. If you bring Clark in, he's the sub and it promotes Bowes to a starting position.

While his stats sheet wasn't anything crazy, I thought Bowes more than justified the selection call there. He really stood up as a wingman who drifted to half forward and made smart decisions all night. He was up for the fight in a contested sense and had some really deft touches of skill that Brisbane couldn't deal with.

Very happy for Jack, who also had a really good game in the QF against Port last year. He's had an up and down 2025, but has timed his run well.

I reckon Jack Henry would have to be one of the most underrated players in the AFL.

Jack is one who's had a few injury issues over recent years and while we were getting glimpses of what we saw from him in 2021 when he was runner up in our B&F, I'm not sure we really got to see it for an extended period

I commented a few weeks back how good it was to see "Jumping Jack Henry" back as that's when we know him to be at his best - he looks to have that confidence back in his body and trust he can do what he wants & needs to do out there

It's such a great benefit for us to see him playing like this again

Rayner pushed MoC in the chest prior to the first bump into the back.
The same push Stewart gave Lohmann that resulted in a goal to them?

It's completely unreasonable that any of those are called and I'm sure we won't see that umpire again this season.

not interested in hearing the rule rubbish, if you paid a free for each prohibited contact they'd be 300 frees a game
The rule I was talking about was the one where free kicks take place at the incident location.

Cat's empathic win reminds of R24 2011
Pies had 20-1 win-loss record and 181%
Built on a manic defensive pressure game
Game was 1 v 2 finals preview clash.
Everyone expected a hard close game
86k people watched Pies kick first 4 goals
Cats then kicked 15 of next 16 goals.
Win so decisive Cats 22.17:149 D Pies 5.5:53
Pies knew their Game plan would not work
4 weeks later Cats beat Pies in the Grand Final

The psychological ramifications are enormous
Smug Lions had their confidence shattered
Giants will be questioning their game plan.
Other clubs be similarly worried against Cats
Cats youngsters gained a confidence boost

Other beneficial fallout of this game include.
Easy path to GF all players rested and fit
Cats as preferred destination club of choice
Bitchmond fans all had massive meltdowns

The Bulldogs board coverage of the game is a fun read.

75% of it is S-tier melts about Geelong that would put Richmond fans to shame.
25% of it is "Hey Bevo, are you watching this game so you can learn what a real finals team does?"

Highly entertaining
It can be difficult seeing an ex happy with another

Reckon they would've loved this moment.

The atmosphere before half time went through the roof, was a fantastic experience live.

I’m not gunna lie, I loved Rayner taunting our cheer squad after his goal in the third. It’s all theatre, there are way too many robots in the game already. This added to a great night!

Bowes was a good solid contributor we made the right call putting him in the 22 and someone else as sub
