It’s not gonna be easy at all.

Nothing will be easy for us.

Every team we play will be looking to get a win because they will all be aware that if they bring enough pressure we are likely to break and if we break we can be scored against very heavily really quickly.

Nothing will change until we change our own perception of what we are as a football team.

Carlton will be absolutely raring to go at us Friday.

Line in the sand time North. Stand up, or alot of people will walk away.
Make a bloody statement, because a week later it's no easier.
Our marquee game ? IIRC we've beaten St.Kilda on this grand day, once.

Please make us all believe again, for a week at least.

How well have they been defending ball in transition? That’s the one thing that when we get going we can link up well with handball.

Haven’t watched a single Carlton game all year.
They’re very slow, but have a lot of height down there and will nullify the ball in the air. If we bring it to the ground we are a chance.

We need to kick 120+ as we know they’ll score 100+.

They average 74 PPG so far.

If they score 100+ (30% more than normal) without two of their key forwards, we may as well shut the doors.

Beyond the WCE game where they scored 10 2nd half goals, they have done the following after the big break:

Rnd 1: 2 goals
Rnd 2: 2 goals
Rnd 3: 4 goals
Rnd 4: 2 goals

Now, if the Weagles played them into form we are in strife, as the 2nd half of the game has also been our weakness. However, if we can keep it close/be marginally ahead at half time and then do what we did against Melbourne we are in with a red-hot chance.

With Carlton full strength, I thought this game would be tough.

But with McKay and Kemp out, we really should go into this game with some belief and expectation for a win.

If we botch this, it's going to get absolutely feral around these parts.
To be fair, McKay hasn't been there for most of their games and Kemp is just average. Yet they have looked ok in every single game, but faded late. In fact they have won all 5 first halves so far this season.

Should be a very tough and even first half. After half time all their opponents (except WC) have gone into next gear and Carlton couldn't go with them. If our pressure is up for four quarters like it was in the Melbourne game, we should win. If we have lapses during the game, which we invariably do every week, the question will be can Carlton punish us or can our backline hold for once?

I'd start LDU at half back, Powell on the bench and open the game with Xerri, Parker, Wardlaw & Konstanty in the middle and set the tone.
Not sure about your positional changes, I'd start with Simpkin, LDU and Wardlaw in the middle.

Yup, agree with all of this. Good post. :thumbsu:

Selection this week is so important. We need to get this right.

The three who can't kick to position?

I think Simpkin's primary midfield days are behind him. He works best now as a HFF who puts his body on the line. Yeah, he might hack a kick forward as opposed to hitting a laces-out laser, but those laces-out laser kicks only work if you've got a forward leading at the footy and half the time we don't anyway.

In terms of shuffling pieces around, for my money here's what I'd like to see;
  • Powell to HBF
  • Simpkin a primary HFF
  • FOS on the wing (for some height/grunt/class)
  • Fisher/Stephens on the other wing (for some speed but also some defensive running)
  • Midfield rotation of LDU, Wardlaw, Phillips, Parker as the primaries (guys like FOS/Simpkin/Sheezel/Powell can pinch hit as needed)
  • Larkey to CHF, Darling to FF

Get smashed in this and it'll test even the most rusted on to keep fronting up.
Dunno. I say similar things to this after a deplorable performance and then the following Saturday at 1:30pm I find myself at the Spencer St Outlet myki gates in full North gear wondering how I got there

Hey slightly off-topic ; has the club announced what's on for the day yet? I can't see it in my email or on the club website yet so I'm assuming we don't know the special events/itinerary of activities for the day yet?

Just trying to plan what time I should head in with my daughter - she loves getting her face painted before the game and playing around with all the spectacles on offer etc.
