Watched Jaensch on Sat for Sturt and played across the half back line which I believe was a request from Crows and he looks ready for AFL in getting the ball , awareness, competiveness and hand and foot skills and good do a Martin for us from game 1.
Must be picked to add something . Looks like Davis might be doing better but may not get a go yet. Mckernan first game for Souths was ordinary but 2nd was better and bye this week . If Tippett out will have to come in you would think.
Giving both Edwardes and McLeod and Burton all another year was a recipe for disaster especially if team struggled early . But Craig was clear in saying they had to peform so lets see how true to his word he is.
Everyone can see Walkers strengths and weaknesses so why do they continue to play him up field . Get him leading out of square PLEASE.
Far from being a Doughty fan but least trys to defend and tackle more than
Mcleod ,Edwardes, Cook , Goody,etc.

Throw Jaensch into the frying pan and he does another Martin and we have another quality long term mid fielder .
You dont know if Edwardes can do it anymore same as dont know Jaensch can have a huge impact either but strong clubs reward those for form and drop for same reason.
I am not necessarily should be Edwardes but strong canditate.
Great stats on tackles there Stone throw. That also shows some of our problems with key midfield plyrs etc with none or very few tackles that is terrible

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that for the rest of our entire history, we will lose every game where we lose our entire bench to game-ending injuries. No matter what we do, or who we play, or how old our players are, or who our coach is.

I know that's a long time but I'm pretty confident.

The list is deep on talent but a lot of that talent is not ready to carry the team.

I know, and I am questioning why. its been awhile now.

For example, someone like Cook is talented (although, I am not convinced he is going to be more than just a solid AFL player. His disposal is horrible) and he would be able to hold a lesser role in the side if everyone is up and firing, or you miss a 15-25 player from your team. However, if you lose a 1-10 player on your team to injury, Cook is not ready to carry the load.

Cook is probably not a load carrying player at all. he is a guy who should be developing on the fringes, and providing cameo's.

where are the guys who can carry loads? sure, they might be there is a few years - but whose been asleep at the wheel, while talking list refreshing?

Similar thing can be said about a lot of our youngsters. They need to be played in a role where they are contributing but they are not THE key players for us. Because of injuries we are asking these players to have greater roles for which they are just not ready yet.

and this is entirely my point I spoke about last week. a lot easier to fill the 2nd half of your 22, the 2nd XI as it were. what about the first half?

I do not accept that we should accept the thin ranks there, given we have been so passive in improving our list, telling the supporters to "trust us, we know what we're doing, we're building a list that will ensure we challenge for years etc etc etc..." you've heard it all too.

and it now it turns out, that our list isn't as great, as strong, comprehensive or balanced as we've been sold.

we've stood still the last 3 years, and it looks like we might be another couple off really making a go of it. in ordinary circumstances, that's the swings and roundabouts of the league, but I just wonder whether we've been sold:

Just listened to Craigy on 5AA and this is what I got out of it regarding the injuries:
VB- Has already been ruled out for this week
Dangerfield- Club doctors will assess where he is at tomorrow, and may still be available this week, but more likely to miss 1
Stevens- Still unsure on this one, will have to wait until Thursday
Tippett- Still a chance, most likely of the injured from the weekend to get up
Hentschel- Highly unlikely to play this week
Bock- 3 weeks
Stiffy- Is definetley a chance to play

He also mentioned he has been happy with Griffin's form for Centrals.

So take from that what you will, can see 1 maybe 2 changes this week.

After that day I had penciled you in for a top 4 finish and a real
contender. Don't fret guys your form will return and with some luck with injuries you will easily make the top 8 and be a real threat IMO. Just a rusty start. Aslong as your return to form comes afte this week I will be a happy man.

Would really love to see Jaensch come in, but I cant see them dropping a player when we already have 4 changes. Although if Dangerfield is ok they'll have to drop a player to make way for Johncock.

Davis to play Hentschel's role swinging forward and back depending on how many tall forwards Carlton play. They have Henderson, O'hAilpin, Waite and Kruezer who all rotate through there at different times.
Would love to try Davis as CHF playing up the ground.

Petrenko to play in defence this week so he and Johncock and match up on Betts and Yarran. I like Petrenko's intensity up forward but I think his speed will be required down back this week. Plus we have gained Burton, Knights, Porps into our forward line in recent weeks.

McKernan to play Tippett's role in the structure including some ruck duties relieving Maric.

Stevens straight swap for Bock.

Need to recruit one or two rucmen this year. Why on earth have we not used the rookie list to have a developing ruckman on there?? I dont understand? However, it seems ok to have an irishmenb on there? wtf

Recruit mids and half forwards/crumbers are the priority

For me the main priorities would be small forward / crumbers and inside mids. Right now we have a dire shortage of both on our list.

We have an abundance of adequate rucks, it's just that the 2nd and 4th best rucks are currently injured, with the 3rd best both injured and badly needed in the forward line. For the record, I rank them Maric, Moran, Tippett, Sellar, Griffin, McKernan*, Craig. This leaves us with our 5th best ruckman (Griffin) as 2nd in line - and he was 1st in line 3 weeks ago!

* Griffin isn't fit to tie McKernan's shoelaces as a footballer, but he does have better ruck skills right now.

I'm not sold on the idea of tweener height ruckmen, but the improvement in James Sellar has definitely been encouraging. If they can jump (and all 3 of them can) then they should still be able to remain competitive at the centre bounces. Where they struggle to be competitive is at the ball ups and throw ins around the ground. That said, their mobility and flexibility should more than compensate for this deficiency.

That said, I would not be averse to seeing a 205-210cm ruckman sitting on our rookie list. Whether such a beast actually exists is entirely a different matter.

I suspect that our Irish experiment will end with the delisting of Donnelly at the end of 2010. Funny though, most people on the board were crying out for us to grab one 2 years ago - everyone else was grabbing one and we seemed to be missing out on this potential goldmine of talent. Strangely enough, they've all gone silent with the dismal failure of our own Irish experiment.

Considering the way the game is going, I think there very well could be a spot for them as a second ruckman, rotating forward/back or both.

These days, with all the rotations in the game, there's becoming less and less room for sides to have a dedicated 2nd ruck. So this means ideally you'd have 1 quality first ruck who can ruck for 70-80% of the game and a 2nd ruck or two to cover the remaining TOG, whilst also spending time as a KP. This is something I think Sellar and McKernan are probably well suited for, especially if Sellars form in that first quarter against the Swans was anything to go by. Moran can probably fit into this catagory as well, not as a defender but as a forward.

Have the clowns that want mcleod dropped even watched our 3 games? He was very good, i would say nearly our best player in weeks 1&2. Had a quiet game on the wkend now u want him out? crazy. Had 6 tackles v Freo. Looks sharp.

About 15 players i would drop before him. No 1 being edwards.

Cant wait for big Jim to get back. Sorely missed - who woulda thought!

Agree, but if a ruckman isn't your 205-210 cms, the exact height of the "tweener" is less relevent, I think. Apart from mobility, flexibility and jump, there is stuff like arm-length and ability to win the loose ball. Hudson is/was of huge value to his team, but I think of him as a "tweener". He is listed at 199cm for the Dogs, but apparently grew a bit since he left us - Adelaide had him listed at 198cm. That's (only ) 2 cm taller than Sellar or McKernan, and shorter than Moran. We expected Griffin to be competitive against Sandilands, and there is a 10cm difference there.

Yeah I think you have. From where I see it, Craigy said he would certainly be considered this week. Doesn't mean he will 100% come in , but definetley in consideration. And from an AFL website article:

The Crows added four more players, Nathan Bock (hamstring), Trent Hentschel (knee), Patrick Dangerfield (neck) and Kurt Tippett (ankle), to their already bulging injury list after last week's loss to Melbourne. Of the four, only Dangerfield and Tippett are rated any chance of playing against Carlton. Graham Johncock and Scott Stevens should return to bolster the depleted defence, while inexperienced trio Tony Armstrong, Shaun McKernan and Will Young could also add to their respective game tallies.

Edit: Dangerfield seems a definite now.
