I think Simpson and the selection panel just select their most talented 22 regardless of height or ground ball getting ability. Yes Waterman, Brander, Rotham, Edwards may be talented. But Xavier O’Neill, Trew, Ainsworth may be much more adept to competing for the ground ball.
I’m sure once Yeo, Shuey, and Duggan come back into the fold that talls will drop out, but it’s disappointing to see these tall players selected over these young mids who might just thrive on the exposure, and I’m sure could at least match Waterman 8 disposals on the weekend and maybe lay some tackles around the contest to give Sheed And Kelly more of a chance.
Waterman and Rotham are not talls. One a forward one a defencer so their selection is not relevant to the midfield were we are weakest. Waterman to me isnt a AFL level regardless.
Brander is a young mid who shows enoung to be persevered with.
Edwards is tall and is not ready for AFL but has to play because we dont have Fatty. We need the height to combat the 200sm ish forwards our short opponents seem to have.

Given that I cannot see how a bunch of players that cannot perform unde rWAFL level pressure should be given a go over players who are doing ok at AFL level in relevant positions.

In: Anyone who can lay a tackle
Out: Anyone who can't lay a tackle

Unfortunately we rank 18th for tackles so its the whole squad which is the problem.....getting Yeo back is going to help heaps with the tackle count but it would nice to see the whole group improve.

Obviously the club does not put that much emphasis on tackling compared to other clubs

Frustrating

Team balance looks way better. Unfortunate for Harry and Jake but I think Jake in particular has struggled a bit this season.

Why was Jones dropped last week? Forward line was lacking pressure especially with Ryan first game back.

And of course it is great to have (in my opinion) our best mid back.

Very happy that the MC managed to see that were were too tall after 3 years.

Obviously excellent to see Yeo on the team sheet, slightly worried he may be under done, like Hurn and Ryan clearly were last week.

Still; if he's deemed ready, then bring him in I guess. Ryan and Hurn will be better for their runs so I'm not expecting the world from Yeo. If he manages 7 tackles like he did in the WAFL that'll justify the selection on its own.

I think 7 talls is the magic number & we shouldn't go above that - the evidence is pretty clear over the years since.
Ground balls, time in forward half, running out games all quite poor.

It's a bit of a difficult one in a lot of ways as JK is still worthy of games, Allen has come on in leaps & bounds (and should be protected from rucking imo), and Brander has started to show good form as a tall winger.

From the 10 listed I'd probably count Rotham, Brander & Waterman as 0.5 talls, so we're really sitting at 8.5 talls.
Unfortunately Waterman (who I'm quite a fan of) sits as the odd man out if we want to get down to 7 talls, and with the Bombers forward line not overly tall I'd probably leave out HEdwards as well - if exposed, Oscar could quite easily push back. The weather also playing a factor in leaving HEdwards out.

Dropping those 2 for smalls in Jones & Foley make the most sense to me and gets us to 7 talls.
TB, JK, JD, OA, NN, BW x 1
JR, JB x 0.5

Great changes & I was pretty close - Yeo instead of Foley makes the team look very sexy on paper.
Foley to be the stupid sub I guess.

Ryan/Hurn were super rusty last week and hope Yeo can run the game out.
Don't really care about his skills not being fully back yet, just want some of his campaignery attitude back in the team.
