Let’s judge Jamarra on his body of work last year in the AFL, definitely wasn’t as bad as what Schache dished up last night. At worst Jamarra is invisible, Schache can be downright hurtful - no excuses on last nights performance he probably just cannot cut it at the top level. In saying that I’m willing to try him as a 3rd tall defender and that’s it.
I respectfully disagree. I saw Schache throw himself at the game but **** a lot of things up. For the most part JUH was "invisible" last year because he was off screen while his direct opponent cut in front of Naughton for an easy intercept. I also disagree with the notion of judging him on historic rather than more recent form anyway.

I'm not defending Schache here - he was bad, and you could see his confidence shatter with every moment. We know from previous experience that he can't really work through that at AFL level. He has to spend some time at VFL level. But "couldn't be worse" isn't a justifiable reason for a selection decision, even if I agreed with it.

Agree to disagree, Jamarra in his very very limited game time was way more impactful on contests both aerially & at ground level than 95% of games I’ve seen from Schache forward. Schache may have a big tank that allows him to try to chase a player but it’s not very useful when he’s probably the slowest bloke I’ve seen step onto a field and has no ability to apply effective pressure or lay a tackle that sticks. It was embarrassing watching him try to compete yesterday, a real low point in his career which is unfortunate after some very very minor positive signs

These are the spines:

Keath
Gardner
Bont
Cordy
Naughton

Weitering
Mcgovern
Cripps
Curnow
Mckay

There’s is miles ahead of ours all of a sudden.

It’ll also be English and Cordy in the ruck vs Pittonet and De Koning.

Watching them now - they have a decent structure and they pride themselves on their pressure under Voss as their number one focus. They are going to harass the sh*t out of our mids.

We desperately need some structure and to focus on ball movement.

Don't know if you all need reminding, Bev made it clear last night that Schache not getting dropped (watch him get dropped now lol!).

Apparently played his role well, whatever that was?

This is not to defend Schache’s game last night but it couldn’t be easy for him.
Spent time over preseason as a defender and last night played as a defender, forward, wingman and ruck sometimes all in the space of 20 min. Sometimes he played one role for 5 min then switched to another.

Don’t think Bev said he played his role well but acknowledged he played multiple roles.

I’m more worried about players who have specific roles to play and they seem to be struggling.

Schache gets a game next week imo.

I don't think gardner should be dropped. He didn't play in any of the practice matches, and really looked short of a run.

Keath looked the same and also barely played a half in a practice match.

Hopefully both are better next week.
Keath, Gardner & O’Brien is clearly our best tall defensive trio. It’s quite balanced. It’s a shame all 3 have had an interrupted several weeks meaning it might take a while for them all to hit form and mesh.

Don't know about dropping people on one game, but was frustrating to see Cordy play forward while Marra watches on the bench.

Shaq played with such poor confidence too. Ironically dropping him will make that even worse! He did get to the right spots a bit but wow his low confidence was so visible.

I’d be making the following changes:

Out:
Schache - didn’t take his chance forward
Cordy - doesn’t offer much at all
VDM - can’t handle the constant lack of composure and skill errors
Hannan- just doesn’t do enough

In:
JUH - just play him forget goals and stats if he brings work rate and intensity he gets a sustained run
Sweet - can’t be worse as a second ruck/forward than cordy and schache
JJ - preseason form warrants a place in the team if fit
TOB - if he is fit he plays

B: Crozier Keath TOB
HB: Daniel Gardner Dale
C : Hunter Bont B Smith
HF: JJ JUH Treloar
F: Weightman Naughton Sweet
Ruck: English Dunkley Macrae
Int: Richards Libba Williams R Smith Sub: Hannan

I’d like to see Libba tag best mid around the stoppages, can start on HF and run in and follow best mid around the ground that wouldn’t be a bad idea. We need to start paying more attention to oppos best player. We get killed by one guy in the midfield wayyyy too often.

What does Cordy offer forward that Sweet can’t? He’d be just as mobile, a better target, stronger hands, same sort of aggression at the contest and a much much better 2nd ruck chop out? I’m sure he can run out a game as a forward/2nd ruck seeing as he wasn’t too bad at running out a game as lone ruck 12 months ago. What extra is Cordy bringing?
