So we've got the improvement that Pods and Betts have brought with their own game, plus the improvement from the leadership qualities

And if we add up all that improvement, we're in the same spot? It doesn't add up.

Actually it does, and to a lesser extent you can't blame 2 performing players for this.

Injuries (Crouch/Henderson/Lynch) less leadership (VB) less talent/accurate kicks on the team (Vince and Grigg has fallen off a cliff) and under performing players (Danger).

Pods can't hardly get a touch up forward. He doesn't touch the ball unless its inside 50, leaving tex to do the work up the wings (out of position). The team is 10x better when tex is in forward 50 and lynch is doing the hard running. Waste of time playing an old man. Lynch is coming out of contract maaaaaate, vic clubs will be in his managements ear, and you think he will be happy if an old man is getting games?

Quit while your behind. We are a poor side, playing old guys is a complete waste of time

Another match winning move from "Team Adelaide". If you're a defender and there's only you and and an Adelaide forward in the forward 50 - who would you rather be standing Jenkins or Tex?

He can hardly get a touch playing as a forward, but his few touches only come inside 50. Leaving tex to do the work up the wings. When pods goes cold (most of the time), he has to go down back as a loose man.

English my friend, learn it

Come on Bob.
Let's compare the old man's output with some other forwards:

Pods:
Ave disposals 14.2
Ave marks 5.8
Ave goals 1.3
Ave tackles 2.2

Tex:
D 15,5
M 6.8
G 1.7
T 1.5

Travis Cloke:
D 12.3
M 6.8
G 2.2
T 1.8

Drew Petrie:
D 11
M 4.6
G 1.4
T 2.2

Pods' output stacks up pretty well! Just at the moment, we would be a poorere team without him.

If the ball is coming in to the 50 as poorly as we've been deliver it this year, then in a one out Jenkins offers greater ability to turn and lose his man once the ball inevitably hits the deck after being sat up on the contest, or missing it entirely.

Walker is a lot of great things, but he has the turning circle of the Queen Mary.

Too many talls and Lynch needs to come back in.

Playing Pods is a waste of time, and given we aren't a finals threat, let alone a flag threat, almost no matter how well he played, it'd still be a waste of time playing him ahead of Lynch/JJ/Tex.

I bet you all of Pods, Reilly, Martin will play out the remainder of the season.

Thats not the issue. The Issue is if he keeps lynch out of the team

Pods:
Ave disposals 14.2
Ave marks 5.8
Ave goals 1.3
Ave tackles 2.2

Lynch (2013):
Ave disposals 17.4
Ave Marks 7.4
Ave Goals 1.9
Ave tackles 1.8

Also bear in mind in 2013 lynch had himself in the forward line, and jenkins.
Pods is getting the third defender and has betts taking players away also.
Pods beef up his stats by playing loose man in defence

It isn't even a competition

Not to mention lynchs only game this year:
Disposals: 25
marks: 7
goals: 2
4 inside 50s
4 goal assists
Basically single handidly won us the game

Keep playing pods sando, lynch will end up doing a gunston:thumbsu:, great list management

Martin won't, Pods is 50/50. I'd wait until Lynch actually comes back, and we have Lynch, Walker, Jenk, and Pods available until making that call.

We lost the last game not due to Truck - Lyons - Reilly - Pods etc who you want to drop .
We lost it in first 5 mins then all first qtr as bombers strolled out of centre clearances with no pressure inside or outside .
Guess who they are our 2 co captains - Thommo etc who form what Sando described one of best midfields in AFL .
How did it happen and why was nothing done in that qtr to fix and what the hell has happened to two of out top 3 best footballers .
Is it structure attitude , or what the hell going on .
Sloane -- yes works hard but not dominating and not getting hands on ball in centre clearances or being there to cover or receive ball given out .
Around ground just does not hurt opposition with possession.
Danger --- Look there is a lot not looking right here and I think injuries are only small part of problem .
Not only cannot get in position to actually receive ball or get clear with ball but when does burning the ball constantly in all sorts of ways .
Each week on here we dump on players that do that occasional turnover but this year if Danger doesn't turn it over he just bombs it.
Watch all the other team stars each week dominating and creating for rest of team .
Is all Vic publicity getting to Danger or has he got other things on mind as he stalls talks about re signing .
Surely the coaches should be doing something to get more value from such a talent.
Coming into showdown this week wonder who you would rather in your team Danger or Ebert who is dominating week in week out this year in not only possessions but ball carry and penetration.

The talls aren't our problem. Lynch could easily come in with Pods still in the team. I'm happy with Pods output atm. He and Walker work hard, not sure if Jenkins does, but he has hit the scoreboard.
We have too many small backs (Brown/Jaensch/Laird/Reilly/MacKay) and part-time mids/fwds (Kerridge/Wright/Martin/Lyons).
For the lack of influence on almost all games this group have, we have too many of them. Lynch in for one of them.

Danger couldn't run on the weekend and would have been subbed if DMACK wasn't, have to cut him slack. He relies on his brute strength and explosive pace, bit hard when you can't run.

And if we add up all that improvement, we're in the same spot? It doesn't add up.

Dangerfield and Douglas both well down on last year's output
Vince gone
van Berlo injured
Brad Crouch injured
Kerridge getting < 10d per game making us a player short in the middle
Grigg and Lyons failing to develop

End result is a midfield with too much reliance on Sloane and Thompson. That's why we suck.

Come now you know tex will just deck the other bloke.
Still 1v1 jenkins should well beat any given opponent suitable...

Due to weather conditions he suggested a more mobile Lynch would be a better selection.

This is a valid argument because contested marking is going to be hard in slippery conditions which takes Pods key strength out of the equation.

I don't believe my argument has ever been that Lynch shouldn't be in the team. I totally agree. What I haven't been able to stand is your unfair assessment of JPod's form this season.

Bollocks...Pods goes down back in red time or to stop the other teams momentum...he does not go down back because he can't gets touch. You don't know what you're talking about and it's getting kinda boring

So if Pods is dropped to make way for this "young player"...who exactly is this young key position forward waiting in the wings?...Smack? lol....no? then who on our list is he stopping? Lynch is NOT a key position forward he is a half forward or even plays on the wing. He and JPOD are different players. They both play in the same team one doesn't have to be dropped for the other.

Our forward structure is setup so we have 6 different, VERY DEFINED roles

The 6: a midfielder who rests forward
The 5: the high half forward who links the midfield to the forward line
The 4: a second small forward/midfielder (they start outside the square then move into the midfield straight away)
The 3: small forward
The 2: Key Forward
The 1: Second Key forward/Second Ruck

So really, there are only 4 forward spots

The small forward is eddie obviously
The 5 must run up and down the ground and be the higher forward of the three
The 1 and 2 stay closer to goal
When the 1 moves into the ruck, the high half forward pushed deeper

Usually, Tex plays a key forward, but due to him being the one out of the current three that can run for a decent period of time, he has to play the high half forward role a lot of the time that lynch plays.

The result? Pods can't play that position, so he is playing the key forward role, leaving tex with less time inside forward 50

You bring in lynch, and suddenly it is chaos. Tex, Jenkins and Pods will all have to play deep, which is a disaster waiting to happen.

So not only is lynch superior to pods, and pods should be dropped based on that alone, but Lynch coming into the team will mean walker will play closer to goal and not be taking marks on the back flank. Oh and lynch is pretty handy at playing that high half forward role as well if you hadnt noticed

There just isn't room for all four. So its either drop pods or make one of them the sub. But playing any of them as the sub would be a complete waste of time
