I don't dislike the group, I dislike the 'we'll keep trying the same thing and hoping for different results' approach. It's not tex, eddie or even d-macs fault they keep getting picked, and I believe they are trying. It's just gotten to the point where they can no longer do what is required to win enough games. Therefore, it is time to give others a go and see if they do have what it takes. If not, then try to recruit/draft/trade new players that do etc.

Walker & Betts would still be in my best 22 (along with Fogarty and McHenry et al when fit) - IMO the fault lays with all the coaches, our structures, our playing style, our team selections and our (mis)positional placings of players etc.
We are wasting what is actually a talented group of players (except pace lol although there is some in waiting (Jones, Hamill, MacAdam )) - trying to turn them into cogs on a wheel but they don't fit - this reminds me so much of the end of the Craig era.

I've been a Pyke fan but the danger with such a strategist is he is a chess master that takes all the flair and footy instincts out of a group. Once turned robots, it's hard to keep effort and intensity at the required level. Probably why there's a spike with interim coaches.

Only the elite coaches seem to be able to keep the passion/motivation/footy instinct within a group whilst also developing a structure to consistently play at the highest level. Tough gig but Pyke and co are currently failing big time.

We can't get rid of all GF losing players but I'm sure the culture of the group could be dramatically altered for the better with an immediate turnover of 5 players, followed by another 5-10 in the next 2 years leading to a new assault on the flag by 2022.

So predictable. According to the news this morning, Crows are likely to go in unchanged.
Go Carlton.
An team full of dinosaurs that is becoming known for its second half fadeouts up against a young team becoming known for its fast finishes to games.

What could go wrong?

I'm no expert and a fair chance I'm 100% wrong, but any chance lack of debut relates to salary cap probs?

My guess is that senior players are generally not on match payments, but new draftees and award-level guy would be.

If we drop Tex, Betts, Gibbs, Crouch, JJ etc and replace them with young'uns, our overall spend has a fair chance of blowing out by $100k fairly quickly.

5% over the TPP is approx $600K off of the top of my head. Match payments to 1st-3rd year players are approx $4200 per game (again off of the top of my head).

edit: increased to $5000 per game in 2018

I'll only relax if we have a 15 goal half time lead

They do monitor Social Media so there’s no doubt they are aware. The management of Social Media was very interesting after the Showdown. Fagan tweeting, fluff pieces from their own media, Captain facing the media. They knew.

Interesting their media has gone stone cold after Friday. I suspect their Twitter account would have been smashed with irate fans. Laying low this week.

None of that seems to translate into any action though - but they do know that’s for sure
If they think good leadership is to bunker down in tough times... apart from sending out poor speaking minor coaches to spin some fluff about how we are going... they are just going to anger/lose much of their supporter base.

What is the current vision to fix the problems because more of the same won't cut it!

That’s the thing no one in the media has picked up on.

As deaneus pointed out, throw in the easier draw and that says it all.

We are f’ed.
Anything less than finishing in the top 6 is a failure given our injury run & draw.

This weeks media has followed the usual calculated script.

Tough talk on weekend and Monday morning.

By Tuesday the wheel starts to turn, the message softens. Was exactly that on MMM this morning, regular as a morning dump. So bloody obvious it’s patronising.

By tomorrow we will hear from coaches how we’ve been in excellent form (for halves) and we should back the boys in and the young blokes aren’t in form in SANFL anyway (cos Douglas can’t be out of the middle).

I'm fed up with suggestion that performing for a half is good form... because it's not, it's bloody poor form.

Stop the denial... otherwise it becomes accepted.

Just having a look through the Facebook page and you are right, no posts since Saturday morning. And they got smashed in that post with the comments. Even the most loyal defenders have disappeared.

Looking forward to when the team announcement comes out Thursday night when Dougy gets named... the comments are going to explode.

Players used this year...

32 - Geelong, Bulldogs
33 - Adelaide, Hawthorn
34 - Brisbane, Fremantle, GWS, Sydney, West Coast
35 - North
36 - Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Port
37 - Gold Coast
38 - Melbourne, Richmond. St. Kilda
Strong correlation there between injury list sizes and number of players used.

Also, the top teams have used fewer players (Geelong, Brisbane & West Coast are all 34 or less). More players used does not equate to greater success (nor does fewer players, in Adelaide's case).

Pyke doesn't want to, it's simple really. One of his core beliefs is keeping the same 22 on the park is the key to success. It's there with his "we play good footy for periods, we just have to do it for longer" line. That says to him he doesn't need to change players, just get them working harder.

We're at that time of year where "1 week injuries" become months long

Injury list as of Tuesday, July 23

McAdam (Illness) - Test
Poholke (Calf) - Test
Ellis-Yolmen (Shin) - 1-2 weeks
McHenry (Back) - 2 weeks
McPherson (Hamstring) - TBC
Hunter (Foot) - TBC
Doedee (ACL) - Season

McHenry was a test last week, now 2 weeks. CEY has been 1-2 weeks for the past month.

Sure, we've been more honest about injuries this year and more detailed, but we still are doing the same thing with time estimates
