Need to inject some speed and excitement with Rankine out. Maybe he has a future, maybe he doesn’t.

Just needs to play this week and if he jags a goal or two, the place will go off.
Even if he did have a bad game, I would also play him the following week as well.

He needs a couple of games to at least be tested before we dump him off our list.

Home showdown not the right atmosphere? May as well delist right now.

:thumbsu:

If it was me, I would be so excited to be playing at a packed Adelaide Oval at night in a home Showdown.

Now playing at the G, sure you can expect a kid on debut to be overwhelmed, then again look at Nank on debut.

Going from having Rachele and Rankine in the last showdown to McHenry and Murphy running around like headless chooks this week is just depressing.
I wouldn't play McHenry. McAdam, Pedlar, Murphy(no other choice) along with running Schoenberg, Berry(sub), Soligo, Keays through the forward line is adequate. McHenry adds nothing other than injuring oppo players.

This is the team I would run with. I actually think it's not a bad team. The only contentious one is whether we keep playing Fog or give him a rest for Gollant.

Out
Murray inj Rankine inj Crouch Hately sub Fogarty Sloane

In
Keane/Borlase Gollant Laird Soligo Michalanney Berry sub

Smith Butts Worrell
Nankervis Keane/Borlase Hinge
Soligo Laird Cook
Murphy Walker McAdam
Thilthorpe Gollant Pedlar

ROB Dawson Schoenberg

Milera Michalanney Jones Keays

Sub:

Worrell's a solid matchup for Marshall I reckon, as a sidenote. Still big on Worrell, just the concern is finding the right defensive matchup given he can't compete physically with the big boys his size and unlike Max can't really follow the little nippy ones either. Marshall as a tall guy who's not overly strong or physical works. Just need Butts/Murray I think to be able to curtail Dixon/Finlayson.

I'd like to see them have a crack with Milera forward again to cover Rankine's injury if Newchurch isn't the man. Not like-for-like, but Milera originally drafted as more of that half forward/outside mid type, and struggled there a bit, but a lot of that is the no continuity stuff. Now he's had some. And can be exposed in defence a little often, but his creativity/poise makes him a value add forward of the ball working up the field more than the average bloke put down there - which is one thing about Rankine we'll miss, but might be able to be replaced.

And Nank feels like he can do what Milera does to a similar/better level anyway.
The main thing with Marshall is speed

He’s not a contested mark but he’s very fast first 10-15 metres which could worry Worrell

This what makes me think hinge is good match up now that Murray is out …. Marshall can bring hinge up into the play too so hinge will still be able to be offensive when time comes

Worrell can take Finlayson in my mind - no sweat . Similar height , strength and I’ll back Worrell in air to beat him

Butts is obvious one for Dixon

Max ….. is quick enough to play on nippy guys all year , only risk is he’s fatigued

Very similar to mine

Probably the hardest selection week of the year given the necessary outs and the pressure from outside the squad. Could see good arguments for Keane, Michalanney, McHenry, Berry, Soligo or Newchurch, plus Laird is an automatic in if he's fit. Lots of possible decisions.

I think what I want to see is:
Out: Murray (inj), Rankine (inj), Crouch, Murphy, Hately (sub)
in: Keane, Soligo, Laird, McHenry
sub: Murphy

Been thinking a bit about how to get Gollant in but just can't see it. We could drop Fogarty, but he's been playing up the ground quite a bit, is Gollant going to match Fogarty in that role? Probably not, he wants to sit closer to goal similar to McAdam, and Fogarty is a good contested mark on the flanks and uses the ball well, very much doubt Gollant would be an upgrade. Alternatively we just bring Gollant in for Rankine and play all of Walker, Fogarty, McAdam, Thilthorpe and Gollant but I'm not sure about the structure there. Very harsh as he's kicking the door down but I think he only really comes in for McAdam.

Keane in or Michalanney is a tough one, probably depends on how we see the matchups going, but I think we go with Keane as Port has multiple tall threats. Could see both sides of that though.

I’d say the one they got flogged in the gf, or the original showdown jumper.

We’d know by now if it was tEh barz surely.

I think the Collingwood copyright infringement jumper clashes with our home jumper anyway.

The real true heritage pink would be a good contrast
