We'll just replace him with another simp and the cycle will start again. The culture at this club is rotten. Been that way for 25 years.

I get it. It’s about finding someone with the strength of character to withstand any cultural issues/elements and the confidence in their ability and the direction that they want the team to go in. Nicks whilst being a reasonable fit initially with where things were at, has demonstrated a complete inability to be able to adapt.

There is not one coach who doesn’t have blind spots, or the endearment towards the battlers/hard workers, but at some point you have to place a priority in talent, development and recognising when a player is not offering more positives than negatives and being a detriment to the team.

He (Nicks) just appears incapable of it. Challenge finding someone who can… My own club is coming to a similar juncture, not the thread for it mind.

Very disappointing. A lot of good/positives being totally overridden by these bizarre decisions 🤦‍♂️

RT is developing into our next Ruckman.

He is not Max King. One dimensional forward.

Will end up more like a more agile Max Gawn. Smart Ruck craft, a safe pair of hands around the ground. But more capable up forward and better below the knees

A few more preseasons in the gym and he will dominate Ruck.

Gawn is the reason Melbourne won a flag.

None of us know yet whether RT will be more a ruckman or forward in the future.

We had one that could have bucked this trend and he was murdered.

What? He was in our worst 6.
By what metric?
In no order
fog
Hately
Murphy
Thilthorpe
Pedlar
jones
Butts
Obrien
Could argue milera and sloane

were all worse
And he’s a sub 10 game player coming in for his first for the year.
Absolute tick for that game.

Yeah... & even worse he only got the 1 game to prove himself when some of the above have had many recent poor games.

Yes a complete tragedy. I think he (Phil) possibly played out like Blight in that he may have got the ultimate success and burnt out thereafter. You should have won a flag two years later in any case and it would have all (the ‘club’ philosophies, faith in certain players and methods) been vindicated.

There will be no shortage of candidates when it comes time to seek a new coach. I hope Olsen has the wherewithal to make the right decision. I do sense he has more of a clue than your previous chairman (whether or not that says much is another story, but I am nothing if not positive 😆)!

Olsen has previously shown some capacity to want to change things but the club had already blown up at that point. The real test comes now and I'm not seeing anything to suggest he's any better than the last guy.

Probably why we all fell in love with Phil Walsh so fast. He had absolutely zero doubt in how he wanted the team to be built or play or how he was going to run things.

I actually think Nicks had had that confidence at times, but when the going gets tough and we start to struggle he keeps reverting back to that regressive style that may stop you getting pumped, but also doesn't maximize your ability to beat your opponent and at best will see you scrape over the line in an ugly win.

That was one of the frustrating things about Pyke in 2018 and 2019 and the super frustrating thing about the 2nd half of 2019, where we were looking OK, and something bit him, or someone got in his head during the bye round and we flipped and went even harder on slow, deliberate movement with no intention of moving the ball forwards or taking risks, it was just about maintaining possession and we went 2-7 after starting 8-5.

True.

But it is how they are developing him.

He will be great either position. Wish he had him and another guy with the same skillset 8 CM shorter. An elite mid.

The most naturally talented guy on our list and he has a work ethic.

Yes I agree with you completely. He (Nicks) has shown some capability/confidence at times and then seemingly regresses back into “safe”/defensive mode, not realising that that isn’t the way forward.

If he is worried about missing finals/falling away, well what’s one more year out of the 8, you’ve shown a great deal of promise this year - use the rest of the year to prioritise youth, try some things and set a launch pad for next year. If he truly thinks the selected team is what will get him to the finals, then I just don’t know what to say 🤦‍♂️

I think we have selected the toughest team we can for the showdown, albeit with no pace.
I'm afraid that we will be disappointed to find that Keane is a much softer player than his ample physique would indicate.

I think you will be pleased that he will be a lot harder and physical than you think -he’s crazy good Irish!

Did you watch a different game last week? He kept trying million dollar kicks and fluffed almost all of them. His Sanfl form was average, his game against Melbourne was average. Soligo should have played last week and should be playing this weekend.
16 disposals coming from the wilderness but we continue to reward Murphy the flopper even after his 4 disposal no hurt game a few weeks ago???
