Changes Round 13 vs Hawthorn

my memories of cody was that he was solid, but inconsistent. surely he'll need a few weeks in the vfl to find touch?
Bevo has already basically said he is too good for VFL level so don't see that happening. A fit and firing Cody is a very very good player, a part of the inconsistency can be attributed to the position also. A small / medium forward who attracts a good shut down defender can definitely go missing at times, and find the going tough when the forward entries or game plan doesn't go your way.

If I take the rose coloured glasses off, I do recall Cody flying against the big dogs and leading into their spaces. Hope he has spent a lot of time with the coaches on his particular role working with them.

Hopefully we can actually score. We struggle to generate much in the forward half vs them in the recent encounters.

If we dont tag Newcombe in this game I will go insane. I'm sick of him turning into prime Chris Judd everytime we play them.
There were some positive signs with Sanders & Freijah tasked with playing on Daicos around stoppages. Given it's relative effectiveness, hopefully it's forefront of mind with those two playing a similar role.

Regardless, it's mind boggling that every poster here can see the same thing and the coaching staff (Bevo) have chosen to ignore it.

What plan does Bevo have for this one. We must do something different because they keep beating us. No easy task you look at the likely line ups player for player talent wise, they are better. However, that does not guarantee victory for them.

I think Bevo must identify the biggest threats in the past. Newcombe, Watson, Gunston and Sicily. Newcombe will not get the armchair ride now Tim is back he did a few weeks ago especially with the new ruck rules, that being said Newcombe has been good against us for a number of years.

Do we go hard tag with Kennedy or soft tag with Riley to become a playmaker as well. I think this time we need to go a hard tag.

Budarick goes to Watson

I would go Sellars go Gunston, height maybe a problem but will be made up with desperation and pace to go with him on the lead.

I would give Croft the job to nullify Sicily he has the height and speed.

Traditionally Nash has tagged Bont and done a good job but backing Bont to turn this around and Red to exploit an underdone Day.

Dogs by 4 points in another close one.

Has Cody's reputation improved since he played his last game?
Maybe I'm still scarred by that elimination final against Hawthorn, where he was very poor.

Not a big David King fan but his line of ‘Don’t get beaten by what you know’ is most apt this week.

??

He kicked over 30 goals in two seasons & 27 in his last, he kicks multiple goals in plenty of games . He's had bags of five and six. He's head and shoulders above any of our lesser lights players who play a forward role. We forget how good he was .

It’s even more mind boggling that our players don’t take the responsibility to pay him more attention rather than focusing solely on their own game.

There is no chance a developing improving player like Hynes will even be in the discussion for being dropped.

If and thats a big IF Weightman comes in it would be for Trealor

Buss would be for either Coff or Buku otherwise no change unless there is yet another injury
What are you taking about lachy?

Hynes' game on the weekend might have been an improvement compared to his previous 'on field spectator' level form, but he was still the 23rd best player we had on the park.

Treloar is so far ahead of Hynes, it's not worth discussing the difference, and in terms of our current season's prospects we are much more likely to benefit from getting Adam back to full match fitness and form.

If the selection committee think Cody is ready to comeback at AFL level, then Hynes should be the most logical person to make way.

A shocking turn of events, you want Hynes dropped

I'm no Hynes fanboy and have called for him to be dropped plenty previously this season, but you aren't even attempting to see what he is doing well and why he is currently in the 23...

If you disagree with my post, then perhaps you should debate what I posted rather than simply trying to impugn my motives.

Who else would you drop instead, and why?
Would you have ranked anyone else from our team lower than Hynes on Saturday night? If so who and why?

For me, assuming Jones is fit, the only other potential candidates to make way for Cody would be Jaques and McNeil. I would suggest both are currently ahead of Hynes in terms of selection worthiness, but you are free to mount an argument otherwise.

I’d love to get Sam Darcy back to full fitness and form too, hell maybe we can get Dougy Hawkins back to full form & fitness

This IS full fitness & form for treloar

Libba & Cody in for Treloar & ?, probably have to be McNeil but harsh. Hynes is playing a pretty different role up the wing so he stays. Croft is obviously not being dropped.

Would also do Buss for Coffield if fit.

Please someone go to ****ing Newcombe for the love of ****ing god Bev. Put Libba or Sanders to him ALL DAY
Hynes is playing a different role but it’s still not well enough for him to be selected. Particularly against a team like The Hawks.
Libba for Hynes, Weightman for McNeil. Consider May as back up ruck so Lobb can go back.

The betting showing us no respect at all 1.35 to 3.40. The hawks deserve to be favourites but we are much better chance than those odds.

Disagree, I think he is slowly improving.

However, even if this is as good as it gets for Adam, he is still in our best 23, and well ahead of Hynes.

Hynes is playing an important defensive role that Cody certainly won't be able to play, at least initially until he builds the tank back up. Cooper is covering a lot of ground and rolling back to cover defensively all the way into D50 and then back up the ground again to give options forward of the ball. A very thankless and hard running position to play and defensively he is doing it quite well. Would probably be VDM in this position if he were fit and missing Bailey Williams is another versatile runner who can give us good defensive work. It's not about "ranked lower" for me or for the coaching staff I believe. He is never going to be ranked higher than say a Matt Kennedy, Sanders etc, but is playing a different role rather than needing to racking up touches.

Treloar is working hard but is still a bit limited and won't be able to give us this, likewise Cody when he returns so need to keep the balance of ball winners / goal kickers and defensive runners.

I would manage Treloar this week instead of risking him on back to back 6 day breaks, and asking for trouble with the calves. Still a lot of season to go, and a week off after a solid patch of games is no negative. Crofty was solid and did some nice things and happy for him to stay in, but with the Hawks smaller, quicker ground level guys they trouble us with and having Tim, Lobb, Lewis etc available, I would give Croft a week in the 2s for Cody to come back in also if needed over Hynes.

Also there's a possibility that Cody returning maybe allows us to play Westy, McNeil, Jones higher up the ground and take on Hynes defensive role. In this case with it looking like a bit of a selection crunch week, maybe he then is the one to come out if Ads is fully fit and no risk and they like Croft's versatility. But I don't think he would be coming out because he was the "lowest ranked" player.
