Had to bring Jones back in no matter what. McNeil is probably sensible, as he probably provides a little more than Dolan at this stage.

Cleary? Hard pass. Hope he shuts my mouth right up and has a blinder. But I doubt it.

Melts avoided, not sure if that bodes well for a win or not.

Shame Harmes is still out, must have really copped it with the flu.

The team might not defend any better, but at least now there's a chance now. This allows you to change things up mid game if they're not working, you have the option of putting Williams back to the wing which gets Sanders back to where he's better suited and you get to free Lobb up. I'm not sure why it took this long but at least they weren't stubborn again.

typical Bevo, we end up where we all expected re Coffield, Jones etc. Just a week too late, and 4 points forfeited.

im not expecting Jones to star but just spoil and win some one on ones. Lobb and JOD have struggled to do that recently.
The flow on effect Jones will have on Lobb and JOD is huge. Gives them the flexibility to take the aggressive position they have attempted too recently with Jones providing a bit of a safety net.

the hawks tackling was questioned the week before they played us. We know what happened.

Let’s see how much heat we bring
This to my mind is more important than the personnel changes. Fierce pressure will win this game for us.

Can we do that? I dunno but I think it's more about the other 20 players than the three who are in or out.

That said, the INs have a slightly better tackle average than the OUTs:
  • Cleary has averaged 1.20 tackles/game this year. Coffield only 1.00.
  • McNeil has averaged 1.53 Tk/Gm while Dolan has averaged only 1.18 (but both have been sub in some games so the reduced ToG will distort the averages a bit). It may surprise some people but McNeil averages 2.46 tackles per game over his career.
  • Jones has averaged 1.25, Hynes only 1.13 (but (a) Hynes has been sub at least a couple of times and (b) we're comparing different player types)
To me it's about the intent, pressure and tackling ability of the whole team. And whether they can sustain it for the whole four quarters.

Do we even know it was flu? Or is that just the supposition? (a reasonable one, though)

The flip side of this coin is that Jones' recent history of awful decision making by hand and foot can expose the side when he's deep in defence. If he has lost his one wood of intercept marking as it appeared earlier in the year then we are ****ed. Not that we had much in the way of choice.

Having spewed that out. The changes were pretty sensible. We just couldn't go into another game with two of the most inexperienced guys in the entire squad with their combined tackle count of zero offering nothing much but the promise of the future. McNeil for all his limitations will at least offer a modicum of pressure.

Sensible changes. 3 outs all deserved to be dropped and with Jones in at least we are trying something different and giving jod and lobb a chance to play more of their natural roles.. McNeil has been terrible but he cant do any worse than Dolan or Hynes last week.
Let's be sensible. Libba to start his new role and extend his career. Libba the lock down defender in the Bulldogs side and keeps Cameroon to two kicks for the game.

It’s farking infuriating that he can’t just cop it sometimes and say. I’ve screwed up at selection. He’ll get asked tomorrow about the selection and just deflect and claim the defensive stuff is caused by a broader issue. It’s like he is allergic to doing things the easy and obvious way and as a result allergic to top 4.

Might bring a modicum of forward pressure that was absent last week
