Strategy Changes: Round 21 Fremantle vs. Carlton

In 5 of their last 6, Carlton have been behind by 4-5 goals (or more) by half time.

I’m hoping we can continue our record this season of good starts at home and get out by a similar margin. That could potentially open opportunities for player management and/or percentage chasing.

I want to be up by enough points that we can sub out Young.

I'd prefer it if we were 10 - 12 goals up at half time.

If you're on the Carlton admin/coaching team you're looking at the next two matches against Fremantle (away) and Gold Coast at home before Port at home and Essendon in Melbourne and thinking "do we really want to smash our team into the rocks of Fremantle and the Suns before coming up against two potential wins to finish the season in front of our fans on a high note and fumbling that so we lose to Port and or the Bombers - or do we get everyone cherry ripe for the last two games against the bottom ten teams and not win the games we aren't expected to win anyway?"

Well I’d prefer it if we were 20 - 24 goals up. So there, I win.

Ill be haopy with a win.

Too much Freo Dockery to get over before i hope for more.

Lets just keep winning.

Then beat whomever we meet in a final

At the end of the day , if we have to only play certain teams in finals to hope to win and have to have a home game then we not quite there yet.

Yes , nice to get home ground, but as we travel every 2nd week on average we should handle interstate games better as we know those oter grounds well. Other teams only play here at most once or twice per year so dont know Optus as well as we do.

Curnow and Cerra being spared the trip west (if those two non-selections eventuate) suggests that may be the case.

This is where I'm at...

No matter how much the rational part of my brain tries to kick in, the PTSD screams back:

  • We're at home to a team that should be on the beach...JACK NEWNES
  • We've won 9 of our last 10...MARK MURPHY
  • Carlton have been consistently shit this season...GATHER ROUND

PLEASE HELP!!!!

If this triggers you don't read my match preview when it drops tonight lol

The rules being applied in a way that benefits Carlton will probably see Freo win a holding the ball decision against Cripps, a Carlton player will pick it up and kick it 60m towards their goal - umpire will pay the fifty to Freo, then Cripps will go down since he is still pushing Jackson in the face from the tackle, they tangle, they fall, umpire blows the whistle and pays the reversal - free kick either at the spot of the free or where the ball is, which is right near their scoring goal. They put the man on the mark that 60m closer to their goal and they kick it.

Don't get the Fyfe hate/doubt. He literally carried the team on his shoulders for years and for what now, so-called supporters sooking about giving him a sub position? Who is the great sub that would be more influential on-field? Ras, Aish?

Aside from Young (or any others who are first 22 picked) I haven't noticed a influential sub for a quarter than Fyfe's efforts this year? When he came on he was involved, dominant and influential.

Yes, he pulled out of subbing one game with calf awareness but there is no doubt in my mind that if it was a final, he would have played and we wouldn't have noticed his calf. FFS, the bloke played finals with a broken leg. He's not the type to put himself forward if he can't do the job better than all other options. We're just better at managing injuries these days for the longer term goals (i.e. having him available for finals) and didn't need to risk him at that time so didn't.

I can't see a negative with Nat being our super sub the remainder of 2025. And if he breaks down in the next game or 4, well, we know, the club knows, and Nat knows that everything was left on the table and he was given every chance to be an on-field part of the September finals push. And as for the comments relating to a sub losing us the game, if that were to happen, maybe we aren't that good and the first 22 maybe should take some of the criticism 🤷‍♂️ .

If Fyfe is ready then I hope he plays.

People were worried about Young and hes come back in good nick. Same as Switta.

I'm backing Fyfe in. Just concerning he hurt himself in the pre-game warm-ups. But if our fitness bloke says hes good to go then that's good enough for me.
