Even though i prefer Simpson, I think Banners is doing enough. Noddy probably our worst performed the last little bit, can you shuffle magnets around to bring all of Fyfe, Simpson, Pearce and Wagner in?

Will be interesting if Pearce plays or the club really is full of it.
re: Pearce, it's all based on how he pulls up from the penultimate training during the week. Up to that point with timelines and estimates they are correct.

Odds say we should at least make the 8..

If you’re a pessimist, take the $9 odds that we’re the team to miss out on the 8.

Put a cheeky $100 on that. If we implode, you can dry your tears with some cash. If they make it, worth $100 all day.

Gamble responsibly.
Better to put $100 on Hawks making it. That way if we drop out there's some beer money but also a very decent chance that we make it and win some money.

Agree he was bad in those finals and he is a limited player but he does have a 1 wood which was good to watch in ‘22.

I’m neither here nor there with Brodie but what I don’t understand is that all of MJ, JOM, NOD, Sharp & Raz have been average to poor AFL players since ‘22, yet Brodie could never have another look in.

I think it's a case of never matching his clearance ability with the requisite physical pressure. Looked like a million bucks when we were flying, but failed to come on under more scrutiny in the way Brayshaw and Serong have,

He doesn't have the aggressiveness and physicality of MJ, Jager, Ras or Noddy. Couldn't be relied on to run defensively and hold space like Sharp or Noddy on the wing.

Ultimately I think he's a hangover from the (obviously important) efforts to find successors to Fyfe and Mundy - we've found stronger candidates and have moved on.

Hopefully good timing with Wags coming back. He'd be a good fit for Butters. That dude is more susceptible to the tag than Serong is.
We all know exactly where drew is heading - Serong. O'meara to block and drive wines crazy, Wagner to take butters out and make space so Brayshaw and Serong can get to work. They don't have a natural match up for Jackson.

This is going to be an interesting game for sure.

Met Boak in Clapham after Port played Bullies at the Oval. Lovely fella. Put up with my drunk ass telling him to seek a trade to Freo. Still, don't like him enoough for them to do well. Sorry Boak.

You seem to rate those guys really highly, I see them in the same boat. All have substantial weaknesses and definitely haven’t been able to take the heat off Andy/Caleb, so feel Brodie was worth another crack.

It’s really the emergence of Wags and now Jackson that has provided some life to the midfield this year.

If this group can get over the Lions or Dogs it will go a long way to convincing me they are stronger candidates.

there's a reason Carr wants him at Port... Butters is a free agent next year (not saying they're similar level, but Carr will need more depth there if Butters goes).

we know why J Lo doesn't play him; likes 2-way runners and Brodie has no defensive game

but i reckon it should be 'horses for courses'. for some games you need a 'see ball, get ball' guy and Brodie is that. does one thing very well and, shocker, when we get dominated at clearances we have to come from behind.

Port is 3rd in the comp for clearances from stoppage (but way worse from CBs, around 14th). we are 7th in both.

guy wins clearances. get him in against a good clearance team?
Over the last 10 games Freo are 2nd and Port 3rd.

This is going to be an arm-wrestle.

Port have a decent midfield but we really should have covered at both ends of the ground.

Port's midfield is thread bare at the moment. Rozee has a broken hand, even if he plays he will be limited. JHF is out injured.

They have Butters, with Wines and Boak providing an ok side act. We should win the midfield battle easily.

Decent names even if two of them are somewhat washed up.

Those types sometimes lift for games like these. What sort of works in our is it isn't truly like that - Boak is retiring end of the season not this week.
