I am surprised people are suggesting Emmett and Croft take over ruck duties going forward with English out. One player is in his first year and hasn't played an afl game yet, the other has a handful of games and hasn't contributed much since the season started. Wouldn't Lobb be a better option to cover English? He's a seasoned veteran who has rucked many times before and performed well. Then bring Busslinger in to defence. I would drop Croft who is contributing very little atm and play Will Lewis who at least has the physicality to make the Hawks defenders accountable and might even create some space for Naughton and Darcy who seem to be getting locked down of late.

I think the idea that Busslinger/Gardner would not be so much better than Emmett/Croft/one smaller in defence that its worth not having the flexibility that Emmett provides.

Just because we do pick Emmett, doesn't mean Lobb won't ruck.

If we're dropping Croft and playing Lewis (who surely can't be expected to ruck), who plays key defence in your example?

Emmett probably gets his debut for English. McNeil might get lucky and stay because he was probably gassed from the VFL and couldn't adjust to the game otherwise he comes out for Hynes. Gallagher in for Jones.

English our with an MCL best case scenario would be a mild tweak which is 2-3 weeks but any kind of tear is gonna be 3+

Hopefully Richards is minor but the club saying he will “be assessed this week to establish a firmer timeline” sounds a bit ominous.

Croft has been woeful in each game this season so far. He needs to to find some form at Footscray. McNiel not up to it.

Lobb to ruck, Emmett to provide second ruck duties and third tall forward. Hawks play tall with 3 key forwards and 2 rucks so will need a defender to cover Lobb rucking.

I thought Croft did a job when required to in the last quarter with English and Lobb off. Nothing with how he played, which was fine and adequate, suggests to me that Lewis, Busslinger or whoever will play a better overall game in whatever role

A tendon atttaches muscle to bone, ligaments attach bone to bone.

The hamstring connects behind the knee.
