How on earth are people already judging Hynes so definitively 🥴
I know. We really need to suspend definitive judgement until the 50 game mark.

Buku, JOD, Baker only just starting to look settled and capable at around the 50 game mark. JOD is a classic, the defensive system was hanging him out to dry last year.

VDM, McNeil, Gardner are just passed the 50 games mark and we know exactly what their limitations are. I thought VDM was going to make it early on.

Hynes, Dolan, Croft and anyone else for that matter all need to be given time to develop before we can say they are going to make good players or not.

I don't think anyone is judging Hynes definitively. Just offering up early observations. Don't think there's any problems with that
Spot on

Forums would be pretty boring if everyone had the same opinion or didn’t share it all together

I might be on my own but I’ve seen plenty, his vision and hands are absolutely elite inside. Just does the little things you notice in the contest, the little tap ons getting the ball to the right spots. Kids a stud IMO
Hope you're right. A DeGoey, Dane Swan type are match winners.

New rules haven’t been kind to him. I like that he was moved to defence. Hopefully we persist with that as I could see him as a FB.
🤞 this really works out ala the Lobbster.
The VFL games i have watched, i really like Lachy's aggression and effort. Built like a brick sh!thouse, could be the big KPD we've been looking for.

Stoked we aren't moving Lobb or Darcy out of position.
We finally have got a great defensive structure don't want to change it.
I havent seen many instances of a team just going coast to coast on us, yet alone kicking 5 straight goals, which happened far to many times in the last 2 years.

Yeah its a funny one. We have the experience profile of a rebuilding team, not a contending team. History would say that it's very hard to win most of your matches if you have 10 players under 50 games. Hopefully we can be the exception.
Most of us stated last year if we fix our defensive structure, stop the run on goals that plagued us over the last 2 years, we'll be a finals team.
Well here we are top of the table, with 1of the youngest teams in the AFL.
Its time to enjoy the ride

Think Adelaide kicked 6 in a row? Essendon 4?

I agree we look better but still some run ons have happened.

Absolutely agree, plenty to work with. I also think he has good skills and moves well enough despite differing opinions. He’ll probably play more ruck now Emmett is in seniors but I do think we should develop him in the backline long term. Still only 20.

Both occasions we broke down in the middle. Which shows we still have some kinks, but the ball certainly isn't sling shitting from the oppositions fifty like it did in the past.

Well yeah, using your balls to sling shit is certainly a kink worth moving on from

In the Stewart mould?

Didn’t Lachie get three weeks’ suspension in his first game?

Yeap huge gap. Reid faster, better skills and just as tough. Hynes still has an upside but do not see hm ever getting close to Reid. Another reason think how badly we got screwed with the Smith deal.
Our talent identification is absolutely excellent however - Dalrymple level IMO. We wanted both Reid and the Wizard and just missed on both. I think Hynes will be a decent player - not the same level as Reid but gee it’s good to know we had targeted both and really just bad luck missing them as we tried to trade up ahead of where they were picked to get them.

I still don’t think we are that badly screwed on Smith in hindsight. The guy is a head case and I’m glad he’s not our problem. Watching him march through the Hawks huddle to get some extra camera time for his brand Bailey awareness says everything about him. Most self-centred w***er in the AFL at the moment. 50 percent of his kicks inside 50 go slingshotting straight back out again. I’m actually really happy when he has ball in hand if we are playing them as he’s a turnover king at the wrong times. I’ll take Hynes just for team harmony!

I'm not sold on Hynes but reserving judgement for now.

I'm salty about Busslinger though. I wanted Weddle, and its pretty clear at this point that we made a poor choice
We were (and are) desperate for a KPD at that point though and he was seen as the consensus best KPD in the draft. I think we need to keep trading them in unless we can poach whoever keeps finding them for Adelaide to join our recruiting team.

Remember there was a large chorus on here who thought Arty should be delisted.
That’s why it’s hilarious watching certain people in this board melt down about the Gallagher inclusion, when they’re the same people that had meltdowns about Arty and are now singing his praises.

We have some campaigners, please never change.

I was in that group - couldn’t see it working as he didn’t seem to have the awareness/computation speed to make it at AFL level early on. I’m very very happy to have been wrong on that one. Kudos to the coaches and Arty - his development is exceptional.
