Listening to the 'Purple Reign' pod and took away an interesting thought:

Resting Darcy for Jackson to mitigate any chance of injury on the hard Docklands turf as he's still getting his body right. This would allow O'Mac to remain in the side also.

Not sure how much of a factor the hard surface will be but it is some food for thought.
Crazy thought. Who suggested this move?
Darcy needs plenty of full time ruck work to get him match fit.
Rest !!!!!! I mean really!!!

You just know the Saints will aim to bash up our boys. Ok it’s a contact sport but the assaults on Andy last game and Serong the week before were over the top imo. I don’t like the blind eye umpiring.
Treacy and Bolton no doubt get stuck into anyone who ****s with our boys.

The suggestion to rest Darcy has merit but won't happen. Hopefully Darcy rucks 60% game time until middle of the third and we're 50 points up and have the luxury of subbing Darcy out.

I'd like to see Narkle in the 22 to see what he's got.

Our leaders had a meeting and players voiced their concerns. Luke Ryan apparently asked what we wanted to stand for as a team and a club. The rest of the leadership group joined in. I think the Melbourne performance shocked the group into asking the hard questions of each other.

Serong mentioned that we have had no identity this year and the team wanted to figure it all out.

If our identity is to come out and hunt the ball and tackle. To work hard for each other and to make our opponents pay for their errors then we should be beating most teams from here.

Sometimes a bad loss is exactly what a team needs to wake up.
Juicy scoop that.

Sauce?

If that's the case, it sounds like it may be the wakeup call the club needed.

We only played 1 good half.

We do that consistently from here and we are lucky to play finals.

To be fair I can't blame the team for easing on the brakes at 3/4 time when we're up by 7 goals, no matter what the club says about wanting to have a 4qtr performance. Definitely told at 3/4 time to just see the game out and not get injured

There was a price to be paid for the first quarter?
Developing nicely.

If they play the sort of football they played last Friday, then I think they will be fine.
The problem under JL has always been consistency. We’re good for a spell, drop off, get beaten by a lesser, more hungry side, JL reminds them to play with more aggression, we’re good for a spell. Rinse and repeat. We’ll see in a month.

That could also relate to the age and experience of the group. Not using how young we are as the only explanation but it could explain some of the inconsistencies we've seen so far.

I'm hoping as the group matures we will see the poor performances fizzle out and the difference between our worst and best narrow.

Yep. Saints have been under the pump in the media all week, they've lost a few in a row, Ross getting kudos for giving a spray last week.
Expect the Saints to be breathing fire and and Ross to prepping a coaching masterclass.

I hope we've learnt from the Dees game.

I think people are jumping at shadows.
Sure coming out breathing fire and tackling and pressuring like maniacs will help you win games, but eventually you still have to back it up with talent at some point.
Their list is weaker and they have important injuries, apart from their half backs we have more talent on every line.
I said in the six game prediction thread this was our easiest of the 6, and I am sticking with that
