Not sure where to put this so I'll add it here, what's the go with Dangerfield? Kicked 4 against the Dogs which was fantastic but he seemed to play the majority of the game in the forwardline/not in the midfield, so is he carrying some sort of injury? There was the rib knock concern in the pre season which I'm sure he'd have recovered from by now if it was an issue and also a knee problem I've seen floating around on here before our game. He didn't have any strapping and ran fine when he got it, but I can't help but think he isn't 100% with how little midfield time he got.

He picked up a knock in the 3rd or 4th which left him propping and running with a bit of a limp afterward but stayed on the field.

It could be as simple as us giving him a "rest" against the Dogs by playing him in the forwards rather then the midfield for the majority of the match, not too sure.

As for our changes this weekend, I was far from impressed by Mackay's game so I think he'd be in the mix with Porps and Laird for the possible outs depending on how many we wish to bring in. Would like to see Laird given another shot though, although if that was to happen I've got a feeling he'd be the starting sub.
Danger didn't attend the junior training camp during the week as he was ill. I suspect he was still recovering.

As i recall, Arnfield burnt us last time. What do we do to stop him this time?

Rory Laird - seek and destroy!

The consensus on the Carlton board is that Armfield will probably go with Dangerfield. Certainly has the pace to go with him.
Danger has him covered everywhere else though. Not sure what would happen if the Crows pushed him deep and left him one on one down there. Dare say we'd have to find someone else to play on him.

I'd say so... It looks to be part of the plan too (at least it did yesterday)...

Danger just has to remember that Armfield is just as quick as he is, in all other areas he has him covered.

He'd only have to go back to the NAB Cup to be reminded how quick Armfield is.
I'm not sure how many times Dangerfield has been run down from behind before - Armfield did it twice in one game.

Mick went one on one all over the ground against West Coast. Will he do the same thing again, or employ a different tactic.

If Arnfield goes to Dangerfield, I would be isolating Danger at full-forward for much of the game.

I'd be very happy if MM went that way. We have a lot of excellent 1-on-1 competitors and if the game is reduced to a series of contests in that way, I'd back us. I'm not sure Sando is tactically brilliant (and doesn't have Bailey to help) so when confronted with some more advanced footy tactics, we can struggle.

Thompson can accept a reprimand from the MRP, which I think is about right.

Danger has been carrying a knee injury, but he says it is manageable. It's why he was playing less around stoppages & allowed him to be even more 'dangerous' on the scoreboard, pushing forward.
Do we know if it's something that's meant to get better soon or something he'll probably be carrying for the rest of the season?

Would anyone consider throwing Petrenko into the backlines this week to provide an injection of pace back there against Betts (assuming he plays), Yarran and Garlett? Either straight swap with Jaensch who goes forward (I don't think he's particularly fast) or simply push a set of players up one line (Jaensch to HB, Mackay to Wing, Douglas to HF, Wright to FP).

Given the injury lists are ridiculously hard to find, here's the Round 4 list from last Tuesday. Accordingly the Round 5 one should be out tomorrow.

Carlton
Eddie Betts (jaw) - TBC
Nick Graham (knee) - 7-8 weeks
Matthew Kreuzer (thumb) 3-4 weeks
Andrew McInnes (knee) - 7-8 weeks
Rhys O'Keeffe (foot) - 3 weeks
Jarrad Waite (calf) - TBC

Adelaide
Sam Shaw (hamstring) - 8 weeks
Nathan van Berlo (knee) - 4-6 weeks

If Arnfield goes to Dangerfield, I would be isolating Danger at full-forward for much of the game.

There's no chance Army would go back to the last line if Danger went there. Suspect Walker would be his matchup.
Has the height, athletisism, and close to the speed of Dangerfield.

Few people have mentioned axing Reily and I agree. I think this is almost the perfect game to do so given the match ups. With a forward line of Yarran, Betts and Gartlett we can afford to drop Reily and his form hasnt been anything flash either and probably deserves to be dropped. Carlton only have Rowe and Hampson as talls at the moment. Think Walker or Henderson might drift up there at various stages of the game too. Talia, Rutten and Otten can easily handle those guys, leaving Smith to run around and do what he does best, just dominate! ;)

Would send Brown to Eddie Betts, did a brilliant job on him in the NAB
Jaensch to Gartlett. Yarran has too many tricks for a desperate Jaensch who will go diving into tackles and get beaten easily. This will be the biggest test for MJ so far and will really show where he is at imo.
Laird to yarran obviously, although hes very new and still a tad raw, he is a great tackler and smart around the stoppages. Dont think hed give yarran too much room to move at all.

Also some people on this board amaze me. Jaensch has more than enough pace to go with Garlett. Jaensch is actually quite quick. Hes not dangerfield quick, but hes still significnatly faster than the average player. Similar to doughty in that he has more than enough pace to go with small forwards. Remember a time where he attempted to chase down a steaming Lewis Jetta over the course of 100m. Jetta burned him in the first 10m of acceleration, but MJ didnt loose any ground on him from that point onwards. He might not be lightning quick of the mark, but his top speed is what i would define as quick.

Would love to see Lyons or Martin in the side, especially Martin given his recent form and his pace would be very handy forward of centre. Its just i dont know who to drop? Porps has been average yes, but not sure if its time to drop him just yet. Coming on for one quarter in a wet and sloppy game isnt exactly the ideal stage to mount a case.

Think Mackay as sub might be risky, would lose too much pace through the middle and as a result we would struggle to break the lines. If Mackay were to be sub, then I think porps would have to go and Martin to replace him.

If he lines up on Danger on a wing & Danger drags him into the Adelaide forward line, Arny may not have a choice!

Another good game from Jaensch that's 3 from 4. Still expect every second post to call for his head  Won't happen.Defence worked well togethor today just need Reilly to find form and its looking good.

I'd call for jaensch to be dropped because I reckon that's just about his ceiling. We can argue all we like whether he's best 22 or not, but fact will remain that if he is there's almost no chance of us winning a premiership. If there's no one younger and with greater potential and in form, then he plays. But as soon as someone meets all those criteria, then they play.

We are not going to make 3 unforced changes when generally everyone played well.

I will hate for Laird to get the chop given Carlton's speed and his first up game was good.

I'd love Lyons to be given a game because he deserves it.

Yeh, but played well against a depleted bulldogs side on the road. If that is what we come against every week, then no problems, we don't need to improve.

Smith will come in, likely for Jaensch or Laird but that'll be the only change.

Not too sure why so many aren't giving us much chance this week. Despite a change of coach, it's still largely the same side we smashed by 11 goals in Melbourne last year and beat comfortably in the NAB.

That was easily his best game of the year today, there is no way he's getting dropped and nor does he deserve to. Actually, it was probably his best game in a couple of season tbh.

So all selection is now relative to the jaensch'o'meter. It may have been his best game, but that does not guarantee selection for next week. Jaensch may have been a bit better, but should he keep smith out. Was mookays game a bit better or a bit worse compared to last week. I guess he stays if he exceeded his current shit output. Forget about using their previous games as a reference point. What is their best and us it good enough to get them a spot in a premiership team. We will not win the flag this year (or next) with jaensch being in our best 22 players. There are younger players with greater potential who can do what he is doing right now. Mookay too. Porps, stiffy and callinan could be at their best, but time is fast running out with pressure coming from the sanfl.

Porps out.

Lyons in

Dmac to sub (Seems to only impact a game for 10-15 minutes anyways)

Did smith do enough last week to justify a rebirth in such a critical game? If so Smith in Reilly out.

Jaensch and Porp OUT
Smith and Lyons IN

Lynch SUB

Out - Sam Kerridge

In- Brodie Martin

Against carlton we need leg speed of Brodie. And I would play him in eactly the same position as Kerridge. Lych for mine played really well yesterday. We need his lead up at the moment. walker is not finding space at the moment.
