Riley tired BADLY in the second half of his SANFL match. He's not ready to come back in.
He was looking very good in the first half, though.

We need to pick our best 22 tacklers this week. the Blues mid's and small forwards will eat us alive if can't wrap a basic tackle.

Laird, porps, jaensch
Umm

Why would we drop 2 small defenders who did well last week and the sub for Smith, Reily (Mid) and Lyons (mid/hf) when we have to contain, Yarren, Garlett, (possibly Betts) and Walker?

Perhaps the plan is with the additions of Riley and Lyons we'll be winning the midfield ball so much that we won't have to worry defending the likes of Yarran and Gartlett?:p

Also, I believe in the 4 games this season Walker has played in the backline in three of Carlton's games so there's a good chance that's where he'll be lining up, not in the forwardline.

U dont seriously think laird and jaensch will stop these blokes do u lawrsty?

Think you will find that Sando has more faith in some players in the 22 than BF does. Laird for Smith and maybe Pigdog as the sub if he can only play a half at full bore for Porps to regain some touch at Westies.

If we add lyons and riley they wont get enogh of the ballto feed those guys.
Ahhh.. Really?

We are consistently getting smashed in the middle and we havn't come against a midfield as good as Carltons yet.

Riley and Lyons arn't going to fix that alone.

Its going to be interesting when Betts comes back in. Do they have all 3 small forwards or does Yarren go into the midfield or go to defence?
Walker is a more potent marking target (which the blues need) up forward. They have that flexibility with Betts back in the side.

You mean the midfield that has them 1 and 4, with their first win last week against WCE???

Ok, perhaps I'm being a bit smart there. In the past year they've had a good mid, but you can say the same about us. Id say theirs has been adjusting to a new game style, as has ours and also we've had a delayed start for a number of our key players.

Either way, pretty even midfield battle as it is. I agree with Faith's general sentiment, towel em up in the mid and fast forwards become non events. I'm a big fan of both Riley and Lyons, I'd love to have the pressure, running and tackling of a couple of enthusiastic young clearance machines*. They played most of the preseason games remember. They might not have as high ceiling yet as a porps or mackay, but right at this moment I reckon their output would exceed. Porps and Mackay will windup as the season goes on and be gunning it up by the end.

*Not so sure about Riley if not match fit after injury, but Lyons has earned his spot.

Could be a chance that we could be playing the smallest/quickest forwardline ever:

Yarran - Rowe - Betts

Armfield - Hampson - Garlett

..... we'd be better off just scrubbing all of our kicks along the ground.
