I, for one, am shocked that a certain someone is calling for Jong to get dropped. Shocked I say.

Yes, let's drop the guy who battled physical and mental issues across almost two years to get back on the field, who had 17 touches, 3 marks, 4 tackles, 82% disposal efficiency (without any VFL games to first return to), was one of the few who actually kept trying, led by example across all four quarters and was overall one of our best on a night when many were very poor.

But I suppose it's how you really know Jong's back.

Beveridge either shows us he’s taking the season seriously this week with his selections, or I’m tuning out. It’s that simple.

If you’re legitimately trying to win a game of AFL football, you do not:

1. Not select trengove when going up against marshall and Ryder, when english has been smashed in his last few AFL matches.

2. Select gowers, Jong and vandermeer over Toby McLean and rhylee west.

3. Select Ryan Gardner over anyone.

If Beveridge is just going to take the piss and write the year off, I’m out.

I couldn’t care what you think, the year is cooked so I called for all players that won’t go past this year to be dropped or not brought back in and that includes Jong imo.

I mentioned suckers, Dicko and Libba And omitted Wood also but you didn’t bring them up did you?? Nooooooooo

So well done making it about something I never said and trying to derail the thread getting likes off your hero mates.

Don’t make the thread about me there hasn’t been an issue for weeks so this is on you NOT ME if you don’t like me push that ignore button as I’m about to do with you.

Cheers

I didn’t mind the selection of Jong in a game we needed some hardness but now the year is cooked I’d be paying the future. Harsh call because I don’t think Jong played that well but he had a dip and I’d expect nothing less than that from him. But he still doesn’t really fill any particular role and I think we have to move on now towards 2021

I felt the same about Gowers being able to add that bit of aggression but wow, he was just plain awful.

The continuing selection of only one ruckman is not only baffling but now just negligent. Like Woods move forward he has set Tim backs weeks in development as his confidence is now shot even though I don’t think he was that bad today against two decent rucks.

Gardner? Well who knows what’s going on there but he is getting a game before Cordy, 2 x Young’s and Trengove so ummmmmm ...

After the way we were bullied into submission in last years final, and now losing the first two games of this season with barely a whimper, I think this game is club defining. If we can’t get up for this match, then some very serious questions need to be asked if they aren’t already. The boys should be out for blood in this match. Win or bust.

I know it’s probably asking too much, but it wouldn’t hurt if Bevo and the match committee actually put something resembling our best 22 on the park next week either.

Out: Gowers and Gardner - would struggle to get a game in any VFL side; Dale - 3rd shocker in a row; LLoyd - really dropped off and offering no pressure.
In: Trengove - sad to say but he's bit better than English in the ruck; Weightman; Lewis Young - has his struggles but is a cut above Gardner; McLean - not in great previous form but will at least contest and chase.
Also, the coach is horribly out of form and needs to consult outside the weird Bulldog Match Committee for wise counsel.

Hard to read into the presser, but I suspect a lot of people in this thread, myself included, are going to be disappointed with the team that runs out on Friday.

He said he thinks Gardner is actually a good kick, that terrifies me.

There has been 3 or 4 times this year where the ball almost missed his foot when he was uncontested.

This is kinda my attitude. Rona has severely dented my enthusiasm for the season. Our performances have made it even worse.

Very disappointed in a lot of aspects.

Players. Gowers poor, Gardner poor, Lloyd poor, Dale poor, Bruce poor.

Thought Jong and Vandermeer did OK.

Naughton is wasted up forward and I would like to see him and Keath work together in the backline.

Send English forward- his ruckwork was awful but he took a few marks.
Bring in Sweet to ruck with English as backup.

Bring in West or Weightman to crumb off English. Libba must come in.

The Bont tried hard but he is out of form. Macrae also.

Smith was outstanding and played with the toughness we are lacking. Libba can help.

Anyone calling for Jong to be dropped either didn't watch the game, or have no idea how footy works. Either way, please refrain from commenting until you've actually watched the game properly.

Shit call. Disagree with someone and actually state why, not petty throwaway lines.

Jong did okay but held up play a number of times. Others did too, but its a limitation of Jong's game which he's had thoughout his 9 years on the list and hasn't been able to overcome. If he's going to play outside he needs to be a decent link player and it's a skill he simply doesn't have. It's inside or bust and he's not getting in front of Bont, Dunkley, Smith, Macrae et al inside. Better off persevering with Vandermeer in that spot and bringing in Libba if we want toughness.

Why on Earth would you call for Jong to be dropped of all people? Lloyd looked like he'd never seen a footy, Dale went completely unsighted, a number of others seriously put in zero effort, while Jong tried his heart out, used the ball better than most and HE deserves to be dropped?

Jong is in his last year surely and his body will break down So why waste games on him? For the same reason I think they move Suckers and Dicko on.

This year is done so play the kids. I only put Libba in coz he has mongrel that no one else does or I’d finish him up too unfortunately

I’d legit play Libba or Duryea injured before Gowers or Dale
Jong played well, and I don’t think we’ll get out of this funk dropping the players who try hard and deliver over the many who dropped their heads.

In all likelihood it is Jong’s last year, but I’d wait until his body says no or his form is poor. On tonight’s output (and to be fair his late ‘18 output, which was when we last saw him) I’d keep him in.

Dale can look really poor when it’s not going our way. Very clean finisher but really needs our midfield on top.

Lloyd is a VFL player. I know he played quite well last year but even then he had some fumbles at critical moments etc. was worth getting him across and at least he got to play his first final, but rarely do surplus players from other clubs go on to make a big difference elsewhere.

Only one (probably Dale) from now on in my mind. Give West or Weightman a run.

I wasn’t making the call to single out Jong as many will suggest it trying to and as I said I understand it’s a harsh call after him being far from our worst tonight BUT imo the year is cooked and I expect an absolute thrashing by the plastics next week, so honestly if we aren’t making the 8 I’d really like to finish very low.

I don’t think the list is that bad and adding Ugle Hagan and another really good kid I’d suggest we make a rapid recovery In a uninterrupted year.

This years setup just doesn’t suit us so I won’t mention the word “tank” but I’d be trying to fast track some kids development and limiting games to Suckers, Dicko, Jong, Wood and possibly Libba who shouldn’t be at the club next year for one reason or another. I’d much rather see Weightman come in next week than Dicko for example
