We seem to be frustrated by the same things every season. Players being played out of position, unclear game plan, weird team selections. Then 6 weeks in, suddenly the team starts to switch on a bit, Bevo stops ******* around, and we scramble to try hit enough wins to scrape into finals.

Just once, I'd like a clear game plan, clear best 22 and a consistent season

It's so frustrating. Setting aside the selection issues (which are glaring and numerous), no other coach in the comp would be taking Macrae out of the centre bounce and sticking him on a wing or forward pocket. It's just dumb. Let's see how often Hardwick plays Cotchin anywhere else except for in the guts, or Clarko putting Mitchell on a wing, or Simpson putting Shuey in a forward pocket.

Now Bevo isn't dumb, obviously - he's proven himself to be an elite coach when he can get out of his own way. But if he's stubborn about players being positionless/flexible then it's going to continue to hurt his team. We have the talent, but they're often not being put into a position to succeed.

In his post-game, he said something like "obviously we lost a lot in the ruck again, which was a problem" - it's mind-blowing for him to say that when he's got an experienced, ready-made ruck twiddling his thumbs while English is continually offered up as a lamb to the slaughter by rucking him on his own with no tangible back-up.

Someone said it in this thread or the review thread, but we'll likely get to about 1-4, 2-5 or similar then win 6 or 7 coming home to finish in the 9-11 bracket. It'll play out like that (or we squeak into finals as you've said) because there's too much talent in the side, and then it'll be rinse and repeat next year. Perpetually young, talented, on the verge of a breakthrough but stymied by our own football department.

Trengove and Sweet in for Gardner and Gowers.

Naughton goes back and all of the sudden you have two key defenders in Trengove and Naughton which allows Keath to play 3rd man - you know, the role he dominated in last year. Naughton is also a very good match up for Cameron

with Sweet in the team English takes Naughton’s spot at CHF. I actually think English is a very good forward and should spend more time there than ruck in the short term. Play him CHF not FF so he can use his athleticism.

Pick one of mclean, West or Dickson to replace Lloyd. A guy like him can’t put in 2 shockers in a row and keep his spot.

with Trengove and Naughton back, someone else from the backline needs to go. They will probably give Vandermeer another go, so probably Suckling. Libba takes this spot. he needs to play if nothing else to help Bont as we know they will target him again.

id be really happy with that but fully expect maybe only one change like Lewis Young for Gardner. I’d have Gowers out the team ASAP but Bevo seems to love him

The team i would go in with this week.

Keath Trengove Crozier
Williams Cordy JJ
Smith Bont Lipinski
Schache Naughton Mclean
Wallis Bruce Dickson
English Macrae Dunkley

Libba Daniel Jong ( 1 of dale Richards or vendermeer)

Naughton going back solves nothing. He’s still our best key forward and bringing Schache in is a massive downgrade.
Hard aggressive players need to be brought in.

Cordy, Libba, Trengrove, Wood (if fit) all need to be brought in.
id also give weightman a crack at the expense of Gowers/Lloyd. McLean is best 22. I don’t understand what he’s done to miss out.

Wood, Cordy, Williams
Crozier, Keath, JJ
Smith, Macrae, Richards
Lloyd, Naughton, McLean
Weightman, Bruce, Dale
English, Bont, Dunkley
Trengrove, Libba, Wallis, Lipinski

jong unlucky to miss but he’s not best 22. Vandermeer to get more chances down the track.
Dale, JJ and Lloyd on very thin ice.

Marshall kicked the goal too which is where his impact was felt more.

English definitely needs help soon. Right now, it's having serious impact on our ability to win games. He played well in the preseason game against Port, and that was against Lycett and Westhoff which aren't exactly easy opponents, but we haven't seen anything close to that performance since. Trengove needs to come in for Gardner this week or we have no chance
Only trouble I see with that is Trengove is too slow to man any of the GWS talls. If we applied enough midfield pressure he could do well, if not he will get torched for pace

Jong out would send a terrible message.

I think Wood is expected to miss the next 2 games.

l would put Naughton back for a while
And bring in Schache
Puts pressure on Bruce
Who so far has shown nothing
And by making him the number 1 target
Could help his transition
What annoys me they had a whole preseason to get the Naughton Bruce combo working. So far fail....

In fairness, Naughton was injured for a lot of it. Not going to cut the boys slack for many things right now, but maybe for that.

Our midfield has been completely dominated in both games. Hard to judge the combo thus far.
Our midfield and ruck divisions in particular need to stand up. And getting rid of the liability players.

Beveridge either shows us he’s taking the season seriously this week with his selections, or I’m tuning out. It’s that simple.

If you’re legitimately trying to win a game of AFL football, you do not:

1. Not select trengove when going up against marshall and Ryder, when english has been smashed in his last few AFL matches.

2. Select gowers, Jong and vandermeer over Toby McLean and rhylee west.

3. Select Ryan Gardner over anyone.

If Beveridge is just going to take the piss and write the year off, I’m out.
Yep nailed it - not that invested to begin with, but Bevos persistence in not giving English support and playing Gardner over Trengove is. Taking. The. Piss. It's not even speculative.

Last.year with Trengove playing 9W and 7L
Without Trengove last yr we go 3W and 4L.- 2 of those losses were against GC and Carlton
and another was the .embarrassing rag rolling .by GWS.

Bev needs to stop this selection BS or I'm done with this yr

As a Bulldogs supporter, after supporting the club for many years you gain supernatural abilities. You gain the ability to tell if we are going to win or not within the first 5 minutes of the game. I knew on Sunday night that we were not going to win. But this weekend I am tipping us to win. Mainly because I am desperate for a win but also because I can just tell we are going to.
I felt the opposite after the first 5 minutes. I thought we were on, and I think we would have continued to be had we converted.

Instead, shots were missed, heads dropped and we unravelled very quickly. Which can happen with an immature side lacking in leadership - and exactly why we need to stop playing games at the selection table.

One thing I learnt about this team last year is if we miss shots 2-3 times in a row then we're f-ed. Their motivation is killed on the spot. There were very few exceptions.

The delivery to Bruce has been absolutely shite and he has had no chance to show something At all.

Naughton has been no better, in fact he was way worse in Round 1

Naughton back.

Trengove in defence/ relieving ruck replacing Gardner

English ruck/resting forward.

Weightman replacing Gowers

Trying to fit cavarra in.

If we lose this week our season is over.

Shows how much dogs miss hunter and Cordy, and how heavy dogs rely on players like Crozier. You can easily tell from that and from the footage of both games that dogs aren't running hard enough to defend. Looks like there is a lot of unfit players in the team.

Any AFL side selecting Gardner simply must be tanking.
I know its cruel but this is an elite sport - selecting someone when they aren't up to it is itself cruelty.
Then there is Gowers who is only marginally better equipped than Gardner.

Now, at least half the team knows those selections are a joke. What message does that send?

We played with 2 fewer players than the Saint on Sunday.

I'm convinced Bev is looking at this season as preparation for 2021. Why do we have so many injuries when no one has been playing?
Bev is going the spend the season giving everyone on our list a look, whilst selecting dysfunctional teams.

Looks ok, Stevo says Libba should be back so maybe hold Weightman for another week and put Naughton back.

Shows the top two did a good job. Guess forwards like Wally are never going to rate highly in metres gained
