What makes people think Greene can bring anything to the table? Has looked lost every time I have seen him play. Lipinksi not too dissimilar.

One of only 6 players to average a goal per game last year, and high on the list for marks inside 50 (albeit a small sample size, 5 games). What makes people think Greene can bring anything to the table? Has looked lost every time I have seen him play. Lipinksi not too dissimilar.

Lippi is dominating VFL from 3 games at least, has goal sense and a huge tank. Slow by foot though and info from the club suggests they want more footspeed on the outside so Richards as a direct swap for Lippi may not be on the cards.
JJ seems likely to be back in this week judging by Bevo's post match comments so there's a little extra speed already.
Dickson is cooked and Greene is a very similar type of player. Dickson played a similar game yesterday to how he used to but he can no longer kick 45 metres accurately. He had 7 touches yesterday and took 4 marks inside 50 for a return of 1.0. To me Greene can at a minimum offer us a similar output with a much higher upside as well. What makes people think Greene can bring anything to the table? He was also excellent last week. Won't be dropped.Dickson is cooked and Greene is a very similar type of player. A couple of questions:
1- Who can handle big Cox ?
2- Does Roughead have an obvious match up ?
3- How serious did the Bontempelli injury look ?

Out: Richards
In: Johannisen
Out: English
In: Trengove (if fit?)
On a knife's edge: Lloyd, Wood, Young
Naughton wll have to go back to handle Cox. Hopefully JJ (wing) coming in wil give us more cohesion going forward1. That IS the question
2.Roughead? Meh
3. Bont will play.

He should, or at least needs some help. He's our long term ruckman and has had a good taste to start the season. Go back and find some form in the VFL, and win some hit-outs. We lost the hitouts 71-16 yesterday, and despite winning the clearances, that can't be attributed to English at all but rather our dominate midfield. Grundy will destroy him next week and I just think we need Trengove's body to nullify Grundy's contested work around the ball to help our mids.English won't be dropped
Why not Naughton? Something has to be done about Cox and Wood can barely keep his feet let alone take an intercept mark. JJ coming back in will hopefully give us more potency going forward. He may even kick a few himself if he gets some space on the wing.Who are we bringing in for Wood then? Trengrove to play back? Naughton to go back to defence.... I dont like either of these alternatives
I think Williams should come in too.
Who plays on De Goey? He will be the one who destroys us
Should we all just post what will happen and then not bother to discuss any further then? I shouldn't have to explicitly note that what I posted was my opinion.English won't be dropped
Bevo said as much during his post match press conference - along the lines of 'I imagine English plays next week and he has ways to nullify his opponent around the ground'. He's clearly underdeveloped and a work in progress.Should we all just post what will happen and then not bother to discuss any further then? I would have thought that Wood is the perfect match-up for De Goey.
Wood finally gets to play on someone he matches up well against.
I know he'll play next week, but I don't think he should. His game just isn't developed enough. Bev is of course right that he nullifies his opponent around the ground but in any sort of physical contest he's often a liability. He looks slower this year, too.Bevo said as much during his post match press conference - along the lines of 'I imagine English plays next week and he has ways to nullify his opponent around the ground'. English was smashed at the hitouts but broke even with Witts who admittedly isn't that great around the ground.
Grundy will smash whoever we play next week and it would be a big call to bring Trengove in after being out last week with virus + ankle soreness (he's still listed as a test). He does give his all though and was very good for us late last year.
That why Boyd is so important. I don't think Trengove is the solution to our ruck problems. So is the solution to play English around the ground, only taking a small percentage of the stoppages and have Trengove take the majority of them?
Benefits could be:
Downside:
- Better chance of nullifying Grundy
- Making Grundy more accountable around the ground
- Providing a better marking option between the arcs when we are trying to make a transition or trying to stop an opposition rebound
- Someone mobile who can drop back to compete with Cox (on height at least)
- Easing of the body-to-body work load on English (especially just 5 days after the Suns game)
I don’t think MC would do it but it’s worth considering on a match by match basis.
- Requires two rucks when we’ve been managing (not very well admittedly) with just one
- Requires someone else to be dropped from the midfield or medium forwards when we are probably trying to find room for more of them (Williams, Lipinski, Dale, Greene, Hayes etc). Not sure who would go ... maybe Lloyd?
- Trengove lacks pace so we become even slower
We could use that Josh Walker about now !Our forward line would be a rabble without Naughton forward. Moving him back isn’t the answer.
Wood played terribly but he was solid v buddy. Wood needs to play the shutdown role on Degoey.
Trengrove to return. He’s physical and wins clearances.
Outs
English, Richards, Young (want to go small)
Ins
Trengrove, JJ, Williams
