Even though you're being pretty disrespectful, I can't really argue with you. Van Berlo looks totally lost out there. If he keeps getting selected people will continue to bag him on this forum, which is a bit of a shame considering he's a former captain.

I agree. Nathan is a top bloke and you can never question his endeavour. His poor form and lack of confidence may be due to the problems associated with his archilles injury or he might have declined to sub-AFL level. His form did decline in 2013 but before that he was a definite top 22 player.

My complaint is that the AFC has a long history of cautious selection, preferring the solid journeyman to the possible KID. We have also been slow to realise when players are cooked. The last players that invoked criticism for being retired too early were Ben Hart and Jason Tourney. Their subsequent form in the SANFL vindicated the decisions. On the other hand we have continued for an extra year or two with heaps of players. More recently I would include Truck and Porps in 2014, Stiffy in 2013 and even the bizarre case of playing Nutta in late 2013 even though we planned to delist him.

The problem is twofold. Firstly these players do not make a reasonable contribution (occasionally they play a good game but follow it with heaps of meh). Secondly it deprives younger players the opportunity to get the necessary 50+ games under their belt or to find out whether some KIDS are up to AFL. This has improved a lot this year (playing Hartigan over JPod, sticking with Charlie, taking the punt on CEY) and IMHO it is only vB that has been an obvious out (but DMac and Wrighty are getting close).

I won't be celebrating if vB is dropped tonight, I hope he gains form in the SANFL and justifies selection in the future but I want to see the AFC lift it's eyes and go for the best option rather than the easy option.

Will Campo's first real game selection be one of diplomatic caution by keeping Vb in and maintaining the obvious Walsh belief in VB's leadership, experience and defensive attributes? Or will he show lesser regard for the new coaching transition and step out from the Walsh tragedy by imposing his mark on the worth of VB and maybe others. Is the Showdown the game to make such a selection statement? Maybe VB gets the vest. Interesting.
I think he can still be aligned to Walsh thinking and drop VB because Walsh would be dropping VB this week too

I'm quite confident about this week. Our team on paper is more than a match for there's and our form for the most part is better too.

This worries me, usually when I feel like this I get rather disappointed. We have to win this week, not because of finals or the ladder but for the confidence of the lads and their ability to move on. The longer we go without a win the despondency grows amongst the group.

It's also why I like the fact we've started the process of finding the new coach. Bailey's loss was felt by everyone for longer because we never replaced.

We've corrected those problems.

Jasper Pittard is in doubt after hurting his ankle at training. With Carlisle and Jonas missing, that's 3 of their best defenders. Should make things a little easier for our forwards
Jasper and Jonas are no big outs, they have been very average all year, Carlile you could say is a big out but if you ask me id rather Hombsch on Walker anyday and Trengove or Clurey on Jenkins sits pretty comfortably.

Really, really tough to drop players after that emotional game. But we still have to field the most competitive team we can.

Out: Van Berlo, Mackay
In: Cheney, Atkins

Would you make no changes considering the circumstances?

Time to move on in regards to selections. VB out anybody from canteen staff in. Not giving up on Mackay yet but damn it's close.

VB trained away from the group for quite a while, running with Rory S. and H. Dear. (Jeez Dear is a big mobile guy).

Don't know if that means anything.

that's what we are hoping, Enter the Krak

Can he provide run from HB for four quarters?

Every game this year Krak has faded physically in the second half. Voss spoke of this last week when he was dropped. Can't see him being able to play Pittards role.

I hope Krak does play.....Lobbe too. Will mean you are effectively two guys down in the second half.

I'm so sick of replying to these fanciful analyses of why S Thompson is ruining our game, and our starts. They make for good stories but cannot be backed up by anything other than mere opinion. I don't GAF how slow or whatever, people think he is, he is indisputably one of our most valuable players, end of story. It's so fashionable to point the finger at Thompson because of his age and his perceived slowness, - that I understand. What I laugh at is that the facts and the statistics that prove the doubters wrong every time are simply ignored because they show nothing to support an opinion that is sadly growing legs among the sheep on this board.

Agree, we are a much better team with thompson. Missed early games and dominating centre clearances in the AFL. Perfect combination for PD. No one rags on Sam mitchell, apart from his corkies. Sloane ranger said may be back next week with a helmet. Hope he's back this week with the helmet.

The best centre movement Ive seen all year from us came in the first Two rounds. Which games do you think we have moved it better, quicker or more cohesively In?

So VB might be out injured rather than dropped? A good way for the club to avoid making the hard call.

This is not a shot at you.

But why the FK is it a hard call??? I can understand the Club maybe sending him to WA because if he does have good leadership skills, then for the first game and especially being away, his selection could be explained and justified. But his selection for the past few months has made the selection committee look like jokers.

The AFC will "Carry" him to 200 games. I find it hard to respect that.

No fair to inference the movement based on those rounds on Thompson. Particularly since we missed other players.
CEY took his chance, Sloane injured, Smith injured. All those guys were on fire.

So, it's fair to say also. Our ball movement with PD, Thompson, Sloane, B Crouch, Douglas, Smith, M Crouch, Kerridge rotating through the middle would be unbelievable. Guess we wait and see.

AFC pick players who slot in. we really need to make a stance if your not playing well your out. you got guys in the Magoo's playing really well and can't get an opportunity.

you got guys in the Magoo's playing really well and can't get an opportunity.

This is the big fallacy - we really don't, aside from Martin and Lyons, who have already been stamped. Nobody else is playing consistently well enough anywhere on the park, partly why the team is in 9th.
