Changes v Richmond

My 2c

Ins: Fyfe, Sandilands, McPharlin
Out: Suban, Roberton, Neale

I would play Lower also but due to the tigers speed and us going in a bit taller dont think it'll happen..

Forward line would be VERY tall. Bradley, Sandi, Pav, Mayne all up forward.

Lyon in presser today stating he will name Fyfe and Sandilands, Mayne also passed fitness test.

Good news it seems. Expecting 3 changes then tonight: Fyfe, Sandi and McPharlin IN.
I'm hoping for Ibbo, Roberton and Bradley OUT.
Like those changes.. maybe expect one more with Lower in and Suban Out. Would be unfair having Ibbo out whilst Suban was just as ineffective. That will be one of our strongest teams in a long long time, touchwood.

Althought being tall up forward may hurt, it seems that other than Rance and Moore there's not alot of height up back to counter with Sandi and Pav so Lyon may be looking to exploit that.

Yeah it is a bit too tall but with Sandi and Pav the main tall targets in the 50 and Bradley playing a lead up half forward as he has been I think this would be the go. Mayne/Ballas/Walters would be able to provide enough pressure imo as well in there.

This allows Griff to ruck two thirds of the game and then the rest on the bench releasing Sandi to ruck and Kep still playing the link up half forward role.

Lyon said that he/Match committee would be ruthless at selection this week. If he is true to his word then:

Ins: Fyfe, Sandilands, McPharlin, Lower (need his toughness and deserves a game)
Outs:Neale,Bradley, (two out of the following: Suban, Duffield, Spur or Ibbotson)-Lyon said Spur and Duffield had bad games on 6PR.

Need to keep Roberton as he can recound from downback and with Lower and Fyfe in should play Hill down back as well

Lyon said great effort isn't enough anymore, I'm thinking one of DeBoer, Mzungu or Bradley might be in the firing line. Or maybe just the usual subjects.

(Note: Yes, I am playing favourites. No, I don't care.)

Also, Roberton, Hill, Ballantyne, McPhee, Crowley, Pearce, Johnson and Spurr should all be shown a picture of a football, to remind them what it looks like. Midfielders/runners need to get the ball more than 15 times. Adelaide had 80 more disposals (half of them kicks) on the weekend, stuff like that makes a difference.

de Boer was our best perfromer against Richmond in the first game, so it won't be him.

As much as I love the guy, I think Keps will be out this week for the sake of team balance and getting the big guy back in the team. Looking forward to seeing Lower back in the team, he's as hard as a cats head.

Johnson wasn't playing his usual running role, he was shuffled into a key position. Averaging 20 possessions per game in 2012.

Fair point. The only reason I mentioned Johnson was because he usually does get more of the ball. In my defence, Saturday was a long time ago!

Sounds like Kep to me. If Sandi is playing then Kep needs to stake a claim as a genuine CHF as he won't be getting any of the ruck duties. Mayne has played quite a bit at CHF and the Tigers aren't particularly big.

None of Kep, Pav or Sandi provide much in the way of forward pressure. Kep hasn't been taking contested marks or kicking goals, and I'd expect that's what the match committee would be looking for from a KPF. Mayne has been doing both. I know that Mayne is a mid forward rather than a KPF, but with Kep, Pav, Sandi and Mayne it's three talls and a mid. Just seems too tall.

You can never fault Kep's effort, but he probably isn't delivering enough up forward to stake a claim to the CHF spot if we're going to be playing with two rucks.

I also think Ross' mention of team balance might also have involved playing MJ as a CHB. MJ's done not-too-terribly as a key back this year, but last week would have confirmed that we need two genuine KPDs, and MJ isn't one of them. I suspect Ross and co. liked the idea of an extra kicker down back (with MJ as KPD) in addition to Spurr, Duff and whoever else was back there. Playing MJ at HBF and McPhee at BP around two genuine KPDs makes it a pretty tight defense... allowing us to carry a Duff.

Robbo was a sub wasn't he? And wasn't Crowley tagging?

Edit: Oops. Neale.

Gotta love the pic they've used of Sandi for the article on their website!

Think your on the money here !! Fyfe and McPharlin pick themselves, and going by the match sims at training this morning (ie get it out of the midde couple of handpasses and bomb to the goal square where Sandilands marks or palms to smaller players at feet) Sandilands is a definite starter.
Lower deserves a crack at the expense of Neale,Ibbo or Mzungu.
interesting to note none of Fyfe,Mundy,Pav or Neale trained with squad this morning.......possibly just freshening them up.
Fyfe did a few goal to goal run throughs and didnt appear to be in any discomfort ,so expect him o pass fitness test and play.
Silvagni and Sutcliffe might be a chance to play,Silver is very vocal at training and appears to be one of the leaders out there,I think he has had a chat with Ross and is in a good space at the minute.
Sutcliffe would be a good sub for Sandi half way through the 3rd ,to add a bit of run and carry.Roberton may make way for Silvagni and Neale for Sutcliffe but I doubt Ross would make 6 unforced changes in one week.
Viv Michie was doing a bit of running and kicking today which was great to see,f we can get him up and running over the pre season he will be like a new recruit

Neale didnt train today, doubtful,Pav wasnt sighted but I was told he was fine and Fyfe would be OK
Match sims had Sandi and Griff deep forward with long bombs coming in and Ballas ,Mayne,Walters all front and centre.Worked a treat and would really stretch Richmonds defence
sorry Salim,I must having been writing my post at the same time as yours
