Tom Cole is an exciting prospect. I hope he had a good game.

But his past four WAFL games have produced 11,12,13 & 15 disposals. Yes, he has been playing in defence, but based on those numbers he was hardly knocking down the door for senior selection

I honestly think Simpson has lost the plot.

Saw on the tv now Simpson said 'those changes should bring some excitement'. Maybe he had been reading Big Footy. I think Simpson is too concerned about being liked by all and sundry. Not a trait to have as a coach.

There are plenty of things to complain about with this weeks changes, Tom Cole's inclusion shouldn't be one of them.

It's sad. And you can see why people like Tom lamb's mate say stuff about Simpson having favourites.

Hill has been dropped so many times over the past 3.5 seasons and I don't think Le Cras or Cripps have been dropped once.

It's really hard to give a shit about the team at the moment.

Yep. Hill's not everyone's up of tea but he usually scores goals and gives our forward line a bit of X factor which it lacks until Rioli is available. Seems to be a genuinely likeable guy too. Lecras seems to have lost most of his magic and is only able to kick goals against poor opposition these days. Cripps is far from his best too.

Well to be fair on Cole he is playing as a HBF and replacing an ageing Butler so not really comparable with Partington.

I don't mind the Cole / Butler inclusion, so much, at least its a forward thinking move.
But the Partington non selection into a team who's midfield has been pantsed most weeks is for me a "head scratcher".

Hawthorn: Dropped Ryan Schoenmakers (102 Games) and gave Ryan Burton a role in defense (Rising Star Favourite now)
Port: Gave Sam Powell-Pepper a chance over Matt White (142 Games) and are continuing to back him in every week.

West Coast: Dropped Sam Butler (165 games) and gave Tom Cole a chance?

Probably at least as big a call as the Hawks dropping Schoenmakers who's played about 40 games the last four years.

Hasn't improved since his first season you mean. It was still his best year.

Stats will say he's improved ever so slightly with his disposals and tackles, but he's worse than he was in 2015 IMO.

I meant that he hasn't really improved from last year when he was in poor form as well.

Cole for Butler is like for like I suppose. Fine with that, though Cole in the WAFL wasn't exactly banging the door down.

We now have four KPDs in the side, surely Gov goes forward, maybe Emac. Throwing Barrass forward would be a mistake. Team balance looks poor.

Glad Redden and Masten weren't rushed in. Annoyed that Hill was dropped while Lecca and Cripps continue to get free passes. More annoyed that Karpany wasn't the replacement.

Very disappointed that we dropped Hill and decided to stick with LeCras. Hill has simply performed better and is younger so it doesn't make much sense. if we had replaced Hill with a youngster who can kick goals my disappointment would have been mitigated but it doesn't seem that we have.

I would have liked to see Lamb given a shot in Kennedy's (and how Hill's) absence, according to Key's WAFL reports he has turned a corner in attitude and application recently so some reward for 'ol Lamby would have been a real positive for him and supporters.

Playing 4 tall defenders also seems like a mistake if i'm being honest, considering one of our key weaknesses is defensive pressure and speed around the ground and that going in tall has never really helped us in recent memory.

A poster earlier mentioned the idea of factions in the match committee which i had never really thought about, but it makes sense that the MC isn't some monolithic cult and that there would be divergent and at times adversarial opinions at the selection table. Lack of a coherent team selection strategy would certainly hinder the effectiveness of the team.

I would kill for some transparency into how and why players are chosen. I know this would never happen because explaining why players are picked gives the oppo tactical information before a game, but as supporters information like that would be great, especially in times off widespread disillusionment such as these.

Hill and Karpany have been given an incredibly short tether compared with the other two. I don't usually play the race card but that coupled with the fact they love using the Jetta scapegoat, and it does make you wonder a little bit

The selection committee obviously disregard whether Lecca or Cripps are kicking any goals or not because they are so highly regarded, while they probably see Hill as dispensable.
