Sure I probably agree 90-95% with this
It does depend on who is being replaced and by whom
McGovern covered tex because he's bloody awesome, in a way most guys couldn't.
McGovern isn't awesome every week though!

Mackay is not a good decision maker under real pressure. If he is a link up, he isn't good enough. Surely you know this.No ...you look at a body of work for sure ......everyone has a bad game / shocker ......McGovern has a shocker then comes out and plays a ripper .....that's footy, that''s sport
More important is that certain players have roles in teams that make the team better .......Tex straightens a team up .....Mackay is a link player, which i think the majority here don't understand the role, its importance to how this team performs .......is Mackay immune to criticism?, absolutely not & i've said every player has a finite footy life whereby he'll be replaced ......but you have to accurately judge when that time is right, and calling for his head every game for the last 100 games, simply says those making the statements have no idea, given time and games has clearly proven their judgement to be wrong
Wrong. Mackay is a prime example of age and experience seemingly having little impact on performance.I'm not sure what you're getting at. I think that all us DMack defenders(?) understand that he is in the last 4-5 players to picked. What you DMack detractors fail to acknowledge is the fact that, at the moment, the players you guys believe are good enough to replace him, are not good enough. The main point is that they are not good enough NOW. Not 3-4 or ten games from now.
Some of you even acknowledge that you want them in, not because they would be contributing more but for the experience they will be getting.
One other thing that gets me is idea that, because the next game is an easy game, we should debut some young guy to give them experience but forget that, if the team is trying to change a few things, the best time to do it is during these type of games. That would probably mean that the majority of the players that will play in the finals, will need to be playing in these games.
Well, at least, if I were a coach, this is the way I would see it.
But, before anybody says it, I agree that I know SFA about footy and or coaching.![]()

Sinking games into players that haven't earnt the trust and refusing players who don't the opportunity to earn trust is a bad selection policy and one that most here seem to take issue with.
It isn't very hard to understand. He has a good/great game maybe once or twice a year for a long time now. Yet he has played 150 games and should at least be able to produce more often than not. No?
You either do understand that, or you don't.

Wigg is up to doing as well or better. Change up of the lineup to what we had pre tex injury leaves Mackay worst placed slightly ahead of Douglas.
What I meant was the crows have already spoken with another club and have arranged a trade. Therefore we would blood someone like Wigg or give Grigg a last grasp.Wouldn't you play him if good enough even if trading is on the cards. Show other teams he can get an AFL gig.
Mackay keeps missing easish goals from about 30. For someone who is a reasonable disposal, he is rubbish shooting for goal.I was dumbfounded and immediately wondered when Mackay kicked two 60m bomb goals? But then Bicks explained them away as almost worthless and easy…wtf!!
If Mackay gets selected ahead of Seedsman this week then the cult of personality and favourites is extremely strong at West Lakes.
Jj too...Good point.
The way teams are flooding us we need the threats of Seedsman, Smith, Walker lurking around the perimeter.

Give me seed any day...
It looks like it will be a choice between Seeds or Mackay, who are you picking? If we were sitting where Port are Mackay wouldn't get a game and they would bring in the young players. We have lost 5 games and have a crack at the premiership. 3 of those games by under 2 kicks to quality teams. Mackay is definetly no world beater but offers something that say Milera doesn't at this point in his career. Milera can go totally missing he can also be brilliant, not sure if Pyke would be willing to risk that in a season like this one. Mackay is generally very consistent not great but not poor although so e think he is but that is the mob mentality speaking obviously Pyke doesn't think that.
West AdelaideWe'll agree to disagree ......i've put my comments over ....and like any discussion, history will prove one of us right, which like Doughty's record, still won't be accepted by many supportersMackay is not a good decision maker under real pressure. After hearing CEY after the SANFL game I would not begrudge him if he wanted out of the club if not selected this week for Thommo.
He has been our best SANFL player this year and it is a virtual like for like.

That sucks. I personally don't rate Wing.I've got a feeling that Wigg is next in line
West AdelaideThat's alright given very few have seen Wigg at play at all ......but also same was said about McGovern last year because of an absence of a body of work or any media profile from the club which shapes the opinions of supportersThat sucks. I personally don't rate Wing.

The three SANFL games I have been to he played. Didn't stand out as a guy who has been on our list for a couple of years should. That's alright given very few have seen Wigg at play at all ......but also same was said about McGovern last year because of an absence of a body of work or any media profile from the club which shapes the opinions of supporters

You could see McGovern had talent last year.

West AdelaideThey're very different players ....so it's not a matter of A v B ........it'll be more about the attributes each one will bring to the midfield mixWhy? What has Wigg done that CEY hasn't? CEY has been consistently good in the SANFL for much longer as well.
Douglas poor form is overstated since he has moved forward7 tackles against the worst team in the side - awesome; obviously, with such tackle numbers, it'd be unreasonable to expect him to contribute offensive - or kick straight, occasionally.
West AdelaideUnfortunately everything else is purely subjective .......one supporter says player "A" had a great game ......another supporter says he has to be droppedYou will be proved right if games played are the only measure of quality.
It looks like it will be a choice between Seeds or Mackay, who are you picking?
You've summed up MacKays career reasonably well, consistent, not great. So he's consistently average. A 150 game player that is consistently average, great. A fantastic player to build a solid career at the Crows and sits well with Doughty, Reilly and VB, is it any wonder we haven't been a serious contender?
I replied to a Stiffy18 post yesterday and pointed out Mackay as a senior player gets more chances than a newbie. He doesn't just get dropped after one poor game, so it's fair to say his form leading up to his dropping wasn't great, something the "Mob" were pointing out. He's also been dropped 3 times out of 4 years, which means again he's been average for chunks of those seasons. Something again the "Mob" has pointed out.
The sooner the Menzel, Hampton, Knight and Milera get games under their belt to replace this not great player the better our team will be.
West AdelaideDouglas had a horrid number of games where he looked slow and on the way out .......to be fair though his last number of games Douglas has been good, at least consistent with other seasonsDouglas poor form is overstated since he has moved forward
Overall a disappointing season but has seemed to have find his niche forward since the bye with brief relief stints in midfield
He's averaged 18 possessions last 3 games and hasn't missed a shot on goal for a month
He's kicking straight more than occasionally since the bye
I'd like to see Menzel or Milera pressure his spot because that could elevate us but it doesn't seem to be happening just right now
