Mcgregor out, what a stupid decision

I just can't believe this decision. I know the Bulldogs have few tall forwards and as a result someone, maybe Stevens wil go forward from the backline, but why not try to stretch their short defence with Kenny. In Round 2 all our forwards had a field day. On a sunny afternoon Kenny would have been a real threat.

Instead we play Gill, who might chase yes I know all you Gill lovers, but doesnt have Kenny's football brain, good pair of hands and straight kicking. Yes Gill might be more athletic than Kenny (hell the whole world is) but Jericho is a Bay Sheffield athlete, doesnt make you a footballer.

Stupid decision, hope we dont live to regret it. I would have played them all, if not Mcgregor >>>>>>>> Gill now, and forever, athleticism or not. The pro Gill crowd must have had their expectations lowered so much by our years of mediocre marked forwards, suddenly good chasing and about 2 marks a game is good

Re: Mcgregor out, what a stupid decision

I would have played McGregor also. Hes been one of our better forwards since coming back, I dont understand why they would have him playing for the Eagles. But you are a bit harsh on Gill. Hes played 3 games.

Re: Mcgregor out, what a stupid decision

Oh come on.

Its a balance, yes we want to stretch them, but we don't want a team of lumbering giants.

They've got a number of skilled runners that would kill us if we went too tall.

Gill has done enough to be retained, at least for 1 more week.

Bock will probably spend the majority of the game forward IMO.

Not playing Kenny is certainly a strange move, I'd be inclined to play both he and Gill against a small WB defence, it certainly seems like a no brainer and I'd be tempted to even include Perrie this week with the other two. I assume Ken needs a week in the SANFL to get back to 100%, Gill has been alright but hasnt done enough to warrent selection ahead of McGregor.

Its going to be fine weather, instead of worrying about what the other team is going to do lets back ourselves in for once, go in with an attacking attitude and try to kick more goals than the opposition, not limit them to less.

On a side note, who lines up at CHF now? Gill? Bock? Other?

Apparently Kenny had a corker game today, Perrie not so much. Word is Welsh won't play, Jericho will.

Kenny always has a corker ;) but yeah he bagged three, Perrie two but thats about all I know, only glanced at the last few minutes when I got home cos I worked through the day. A serious question (everybody) would you want Perrie on our list next year?

As much as I admire Sarge (his work ethic and sheer guts and determination), I think the writing is definitely on the wall for him. Kenny Mc needs to perform at the same level in the AFL (as he did in the game today) consistantly for him to keep his spot as well. Seems to me we have a few bright forward prospects on the horizon (including Hentschell's return) so neither of them are guaranteed a spot if form doesn't warrant it.

Ken kicked four goals the other day, pretty much every other match he has kicked 3 or 2 goals including stints in defence where he has blanketed his opponent very well. He's been close to or in our best most matches hes played in this year. I think that warrents a place in the side but obviously he needs to perform to keep his spot. Perries days are numbered I think, but I can feel a (somewhat lucky) bag of 4 or 5 goals coming up (lets see those helicopters wobble through!) sometime before the season ends to save his neck. If we play him ahead of McGregor come finals again (assuming we do make it) I'll ...do something, something worthy of extreme frustration. Anyway c'mon Gill tomorrow, I really want to like this guy but his execution has got to improve otherwise as the novelty (novelty is the wrong word but you get the idea) wears off I think frustration could creep in among a few supporters. I'll say it again, it sounds simple but it really does work, just get out and kick 40-50m to a mate/teammate whoever for at least an hour every day, kicking will improve very very quickly. Also helps confidence which IMO is about 50% of what its all about.

Gill for CHF

Perrie looking like a delisting. I have never been in the 'anti-Perrie' camp but it looks like his time is up if Gill can prove an adequate foil over the next 3 games (McGregor not an AFL CHF anymore, though has played well at FF when given opportunity).

If we too tall down back, and wanna stretch them up forward, I'd move Rutten or Stevens forward. Please let's leave Bock where he is, surely once a player has an obvious spot and is getting top 3 in best players every week, you would be robbing Peter too much to pay Paul when Bock's 'exchange rate' from defender to forward is poor.

The Bulldogs have to run because they have nothing big and threatening to kick to in the clinches pressure at the stoppages needs to be intense and plenty of good positioning floating to hb to block their passing when they go sideways they are stuffed.

You are ****ing kidding yourself. Gill's hands are every bit as good, in fact probably better (in the world's opinion minus yours), and he does have a football brain if you care to watch him. Bar leaving him one-out in the square, McGregor has very little use as an AFL player. He's slow, can't jump, can't kick 50 metres and can't chase. Granted he is a better kick for goal but at the end of the day that's the only thing he will ever have over the Gill Train.

That said, I would play him ahead of Perrie (i.e. I am not questioning your suggestion to play McGregor, just the suggestion to drop Gill for him). Also you are forgetting Meesen can be used as a tall, mobile forward option.

....GILL LOVERS UNITE!!!! >_>

At best his hands are almost as good as Kenny's, I'm definitely a "Gill lover" but he's got to improve his decision making (ie a "football brain" aspect of his game) and his execution, which ties in with both his decision making and disposal. I like Gill and he shows promise but lets be realistic here, he hasnt done that much yet and has aspects of his game which serisouly need to improve if he is to become a solid best 22 player let alone the answer to our forwardline woes. As for Kenny having "little use as an AFL player apart from playing out of the square", thats like saying Hudson has little use apart from playing in Ruck. Watched much of the crows in the last 3 or so years? Granted now he is more suited to playing FF rather than CHF, but not only is Kenny a solid forward proposition he can play (well) down back too.
Some players get unfairly maligned by the fans IMO and the slack, soft players like Welsh and Jericho get defended, and we talk about Welsh's excellent defensive work and effort in our F50, give me a break

Now see you ruin your argument by slamming players whilst accusing others of slamming players unfairly . One that you slammed in particular played a superb game on the weekend and without his efforts (goal kicking and defensive pressure) we wouldn't still be in with a chance.

We are all entitled to our opinion. I'm fully hoping Gill becomes a good player, enjoyed his goals yesterday (first looked a bit lucky, second a good kick under pressure) but we are marking him pretty kindly so far

4 games, 5 goals about 15 marks total, 12 touches yesterday. Ok for first 4 games sure, but he is not an overawed 19 yo, he is physically ready to play, so in my mind ok so far, nothing better. I'd be really surprised if you thought differently. He is very athletic, seems to have a big engine, good pressure but I'm not yet convinved his hands are better than average though

Kenny plays a much better game than he looks. He reminds me of Mark Stevens, not quick, doesnt look threatening, but gets to the right spots, good mark, can finish. He'd be in my side ahead of Gill in a heartbeat at the moment, I think we should have played both yesterday

Probably true about Welsh Jenny ;):o and he was good on sunday with both his defensive pressure and obviously his goals, I think its a bit far fetched to say we wouldnt be in with a chance without him considering the amount of the ball we had/F50 entries/scoring shots but he was really good on Sunday. Problem is, as I always say he's too inconsistant on both fronts, but as I also always say I hope he proves me wrong :) He did show his value on Sunday but he's gotta keep doing it and in the big games like finals and against strong defensive opposition aswell.
