What do we think of this little snippet?

Senior Assistant Coach Brent Montgomery has hinted on SEN tonight that rookie Roarke Smith may be upgraded from the rookie list and a chance to play this weekend against Collingwood on Sunday.

Love it, blokes had a solid season in the VFL, reminds me of Dale Morris in terms of playing against talls and smalls.
Loves to crash packs and put his body on the line

Would be one of the better decisions for a rookie upgrade this season

No way he should dive on it. Ample time to pick-up and blind-turn, and probably would've drawn the free if he didn't get clear. We need to be consistent when assessing acts on a footy field, if it was Prudden who did the same thing he would be hung out to dry, but because he is our favourite he gets slack.

He should have done more in this play, hopefully he learns from it.

Can't argue with much of that.

Does anyone get the feeling we're packing up for the year?

Don't think we are packing up but we are bent over rummaging the depths at the bottom of the barrel for an inside mid. If you take Libba, Clay, Hrovat, Honey, Jong, Stevens and Wallis out (either injured or not in top form) we barely have a player to rotate through there to relieve Dahl, Bont, Picken and I guess Stringer. Every chance we see MBoyd and/or Webb or Prudden rotating this week or we have to elevate Hrovat and Jong who will likely struggle. I don't expect to take much out of this weeks game unless we spank Collingwood in which case our depth utterly rocks.

Not against him playing, but I loved the fact that we didn't have a single player in our side this year with a 'manbun'

I think with stevens gone, wallis sore, and a few young guys who are sure to be tiring, you could be right.

When you think about our year Bevo didn't have much time to plan out the season or implement his game plan, but he's achieved a significant amount so far in such a short period.

I'm sure now part of him is thinking, gee we've done well, but perhaps its time to put the cue in the rack rather than limp into the finals.

I think it's better for the club if we can somehow scrape into the finals. Even if we are "bundled out", as they say in tennis, in the first round, it would be a huge springboard for next season and will kick start our 2016 membership campaign. No way we should pack up and I don't believe it's in Bevo to do so.

Doesn't sound like Bevo to me.

 with our other outs this would really hurt

Wallis and Minson trained with the main group on Tuesday, did not seemed restricted. Hamling was doing run throughs on the far side then some ball work behind goals.

Would think Wallis may play unless he pulls up sore.

I hope we don't get blinded by the shining light of play finals and forget that this is very much a development year.
For example, I hope we don't play Goodes instead of blooding Cordy or Hamilton, or giving a game to Webb or Prudden or Dale someone similar. Even if it means that we're that 0.001% chance more likely to play finals this year, it's not about this year. Look at the bigger picture. We want to do everything this year to be more likely to win a flag with our current crop of players at some point in the next 6-7 years. That extra game to a Hamilton, Webb, Prudden or Dale type might mean that we lose to Collingwood by 1 point this week and miss out on finals but the young player has got that invaluable experience.

Id be rapt if Rourke Smith played. Been a big big fan since the first vfl game i saw him play this year. Fits our backline absolutely perfectly. Hasnt looked any less ready for senior action than our other draftees this year from what Ive seen. Been thinking quietly he might be close soon.

Hi guys and gals
If you're interested in a little good natured banter leading up to this week's game there's a Banter thread on the Collingwood Board here

It's meant to be fun and light hearted, and anything goes (although BF rules apply, see OP) and everyone's welcome:)

Unfortunately most supporters don't want to look at the bigger picture. :(

Why put off til tomorrow what you can do today?
You never know what twist of events the future might bring to potentially derail your plans.

I know it goes against the commonly accepted view, but I think this club has erred on the development side far too often and it has cost us dearly. By the way I am not just talking about McCartney.

Nothing would be better for development than to play in front of 70,000 at the MCG in a final. Getting a taste of it and what he feels like would be huge for them. Even if we lost it would remind the players how far they've got to go and what the bench mark is. The experience is invaluable.

Also like Bev said when he was first appointed "the sky is the limit" this year, can't see why we stop now.

Let's have some perspective. We have a truckload of inexperienced players that will struggle with the rigours of an AFL Season .
McCartney went to long with some deadwood and should have shown more faith in recruiting and drafting .
