TO be honest, I hope the club don't take the money thing into consideration. If it is worth doing for the team or for the player, it is worth paying for. If it does happen I imagine they will place Smith where Prudden has been playing, would that be correct? black pup what role could you see Smith playing in the ones?

Maybe this, or if Wallis is out, then Boyd to the middle and Smith in as the extra back.

Heard a rumour or two about this week against the Black and (jesse) White. According to my sources, the Western Bulldogs defence has been demoted to the VFL as Collingwood do not have a forward line (Jesse White's best position is the red vest). Therefore the doggiesh wont be able to attack from defence, meaning Collingwoood legend Jonathan Marsh is certain to kick a bakers dozen. Also would be appreciated if you gave Nick "The Trick" Maxwell a like on facebook.

Thoughts, queries, concerns????

Cheers,
Beauie.

wtf?

Rourke suits our backline to a tee. Can lock down on a small, quick and very good in the air so would fit right in chopping out our other defenders. Loves to run and probably has above average skills. Like him a lot and were still lacking a bit of run at the moment.

Means we are thinking of sending Boyd into the guts if wally dosnt play?

Missing a bit of Grunt in the Midfield with injuries so certainly could happen

One of the best things about this year is the anticipation, both for games and team selection. I look forward to Thursday nights now. Last year I didn't really care, especially as we stuck hard with the same old.

Would like to see Webb back in the side as he's bloody great. I would like preseason/ round one and two L. Jong back too, if anyone knows where he's gone could they get in touch with the match committee c/o whitten oval

If Wallis is out (which I hope is just a bad rumour that originated from here), Boyd simply has to be put in there. No if's or buts, otherwise it will be the softest & most inexperienced midfield in history*. Otherwise Jong to replace Stevens to give some toughness & pace is simple, having to replace 2 with our availibilty is very, very difficult.

*maybe

maybe something like this:

Wood Hamling JJ
Murph Morris Boyd
Dickson Bont Grant
Crameri Roughead Dahlhaus
Daniel Boyd Stringer

Minson Macrae Picken

Wallis/Jong Webb Hunter Dale

Ins: Minson Webb Hamling
Out: Prudden Campbell Redpath

I could easily see them persisting with Big Red though and keeping Minson out while dropping TC. Have Rough as main ruck with Boyd as backup - which he did very well against Geelong I thought (17 HOs)

Could also see them bringing in another inside mid instead of a ball user but I thought our skills cost us more than our grunt work on the weekend. Want to see Webb in.

I really must have missed something about Redpath on the weekend. Was at the game live though but he looked like one of our better players up front. Looked a lot more likely to find space and clunk a grab than T.Boyd. Although I thought Boyd battled well in the last quarter in the ruck when Campbell was subbed.

Without ever having seen him play, surely Biggs would be a certain inclusion? Promoting rookies now seems desperate

Out: Wallis (if hurt), Prudden, Campbell

In: Biggs, Webb (if Wallis is hurt), Hamling/Talia

Hunter full game, Dale sub. Then there's Minson. Is he an automatic selection? What about Roughead?

He played a good game, which is why I am slightly torn about his inclusion/omission. Yes he probably had a better game than Boyd but Redpath is probably at his ceiling already while Boyd still has a lot of improvement. IMO playing in the 1's will do more for his development than beating up on lighter bodies in the 2's so it's more than a question of who played better the previous week. Also I think Boyd plays the second ruck role a lot better than Redpath (but that is dependant on Minson's reinclusion or not).

Final guess:

Out - Campbell
In - Minson

Out - Prudden
In - Webb

Out - Redpath
In - Hamling

Out - Wallis (late withdrawal)
IN - Biggs

Happy with that. I had forgotten about Biggs and from the sounds of it he is in better nick than Jong or Hrovat atm so he seems like a logical inclusion. Also I have him in the Pieman, so that's another plus.

I definitely agree, but thinking more about it I think it's a (difficult) structural decision. At the moment we're lacking grunt in the middle and it's resulting in us getting less valuable disposals forward. Our forward press has dropped off too. Our ball use going forward has been poor, and unfortunately Redpath needs the ball in a good position to do much with it. He's dangerous with good entries but pretty average at creating from poor-average distribution. Compare that to Boyd who, while he has his critics, has been very good at creating for smalls this year, and reasonable at competing himself. Without Redpath we can play a bit smaller, utilise Boyd more and also pressure more as a forward unit (yes, Redpath had awesome tackle numbers - but he's not really the type to chase and harass and push hard back up and down the ground).

I would keep Redpath in - and I think he will stay in - as I think he's been pretty much our most dangerous forward over the past couple weeks. The question remains though whether our forward line as a unit is more functional with or without Red. I can see the argument for both. Ideally our ball use improves to the point where plan A is hitting a forward like Redpath lace out and plan B is bombing it long to a competing Boyd with smalls at his feet...but at the moment we're struggling to even get plan B right with horrendously shallow and ill-directed distribution inside 50. We're still searching for a functional forward structure and eventually certain players may become victim to that through little fault of their own.

Does anyone think Goodes is a chance should Wallis not get up?? I wouldn't be dropping Redpath he played well against them in the pre season game, made a few of there backs a little jumpy

Would be surprised, it was only his first game back after a pretty long time on the sidelines. Would have thought Jong is ahead of him.

Watching the VFL game last weekend there's NO chance Goodes should be back in. Then again neither should Jong if we're going off that, but at least he was slightly better.

So we need inside grunt, who do we bring in based on last week? Seems we are running out of options.

If Wallis is out inclined to move Boyd mid, and bring in Webb/Biggs. Dale is also in question maybe sub and give Hunter a full game?

I liked TCs marking, far better than Minson. But gee TCs tap work wasn't good and his ball use was ordinary as well. But if we gave Cordy a massive run TC who shows more IMO should too. But if Minson is fit it's a tough call.

We can't go in with too many players with some type of question mark on them, we have to select a team to win this game. Minson for Campbell if fit
