I agree with this last bit in particular.

One of the big reasons we lost last week was because we didn't get the usual drive from Murphy, Boyd, Wood and JJ (2nd half JJ was better). This is not really about lack of experience (apart from JJ perhaps). It was more to do with Geelong recognising and then shutting down these four. Murphy had a bad day for whatever reason and Boyd was less than his usual prolific self. I recall the commentators saying that Stevey J was paying a lot of attention to Wood, who also copped an accidental (?) Geelong knee to the solar plexus during the game. JJ got off the leash as the game went on and became an important contributor to us staying in the match.

I think if these four all have a good day against the Pies we will win. Perhaps one rider on that is that Wallis must be fit and play up to his usual standard. I'm worried about our thinning midfield ranks.
It's great, we have so many match winners. If one of Bonti, Stringer, JJ, Murphy get going, we normally fare well. But It makes it all the more frustrating when none can get fully going.

Tom Boyd the club has using him differently in the last month, before they used to kick the ball to Boyd in fashion which he made contest and smaller players would be near by crum the ball they need to revert to that structure .The small player have being going further up the field they need to stay closer to Boyd

It works, but it wouldnt work indefinately if thats all we do.

We need to be able to mix it up.

There has been a marked change from the first 1/3rd of the season where we played helter-skelter to this current patch where we are all about defence and tempo.

It would make some kind of sense to me that we combine the two styles as we head into the last 3rd of the season.

I'm a sucker for a great kick and wanted Darley to succeed. Your concerns mirror mine. But for me his biggest asset (kicking) seems severely compromised by a lack of vision. He seems to do a lot of 'safe' sideways kicks.

Is there more to Boyds knee? Some pretty serious strapping there last week. What was the issue when he missed with it, just soreness?
Medial was what Bec said a few weeks ago dunno if same problem

FFS

Boyd for Talia would've been fine, it frees up Roughy. Biggs has to stand up here big time and put his head over the ball, was very disappointing against Melbourne.

Wood and Boyd have to help out Roughy and Morris also, we had no drive from them last week, Boyd didn't take a mark IIRC last week.

If we win this game I'll eat my hat! Who rucks when Campbell rests? Thought we could have went with Talia to free roughy up to play elsewhere.

First time Tom has been legit ommitted. See a few scragger supporters at Piranha Park on Saturday then?

It will be Roughhead. We lacked run last week and it killed us, the drink is changing things up to try and spark our game back up. I like it!

Biggest difference this time is Collingwood don't have a Hawkins that needs taking care of. There is more flexibility for Roughead to play back or forward and help Campbell in the ruck. Much like he was doing prior to jarring his back.

White is the only other big forward and he isn't really an inside 50 type of player most of the time.

No Talia, which means Roughead plays in defence again.

S.T.U.P.I.D.

Good call imo. Send him back to gain form in the vfl and show us what he can do at a lower level.

Keen to see redpath as the main man this week with Campbell rotating through there.

Roughead generally matches up really well against the resting ruckman, if he had to play on Cloke I'd be worried.

I like the fact we dropped a tall forward as well, will allow Crameri and Stringer to play closer to goal where they are better. Forward line functions better too, just hope Redpath can create a few more contests.

I wonder if Collingwood will play Witts/Grundy forward when resting, if so Roughead will play on them and Morris will play on White and Goldsack will probably tag Wood.

It makes no sense to me to not play Talia, he would take White for most of the game with Wood/Boyd regularly being able to chop him out, the issue later in the game is we'll lose intercept, height and rebound if Campbell or Redpath gets subbed out and Roughy has to play in the ruck. The flow on effect is we'll lose drive from our smalls due to them having to play taller, this strategy will only work if we are sitting on a match winning lead and the sting is out of the game, if not then I see it as a problem.

If we win this game Matty Boyd has to be dominant in the air helping his other defenders out, same with Bob, no marks from Boyd last week did not help our rebound at all and Murph was down. On the flipside, our forward line should be more mobile, we just need Redpath to bring the ball to ground and not be beaten in the air, we need Stringer to dominate on the scoreboard also as my confidence with Crameri is very low at the moment.

Hmm even smaller this week, would have loved Talia in for Prudden but I'll back the MC in recognizing we need the run. Should be fast and hopefully high scoring again but at Etihad.

In Melbourne now, can't wait to watch on Sunday!

This team is starting to look pretty average with the outs in recent weeks. Prudden is slow and Biggs needs a few extra yards to say the least. The defense is looking very short with Rough off the ground or rucking, and we seem to have about 9 half back flankers in the side. No matter your criticisms of Minno he is our number one ruck and not playing, and neither is Stevens who was having his best year to date.

I agree. Probably the weakest team we've gone with this season. Mids are going to have to play well.

Their f/line looks shit house, what's everyone worried about Talia for? Our biggest threat of goals is from Swan or Pendles, the team we've picked is as good as we've got to defend these two and exploit the bunch of slow mules they have when we get the ball in defence.

Pretty confident of a win here just quietly!

I hope you are right DD.
