Wholeheartedly disagree on your comments on Callinan. The lad can seriously play. Would be nice if he got a few more possessions, but again, he can play. I'm just angry we didn't recruit him years earlier when he was younger.
But Tambling? No offence to the lad on personal level, but in terms of a "good choice"....that was the biggest recruiting nose dive into the sewer since that clepto-junky-halfwit we recruited decades ago (sorry....can't recall his name). If someone remembers his name?....much appreciated.
Callinan can play.. but at 31 he's missed the boat. There is little point to selecting him now, as any games he plays is effectively one game fewer played by one of our youngsters. Callinan will probably be delisted at the end of the year, in one of the harsher list pruning decisions that they'll have to make (noting that some far less deserving players will still be employed in 2014).

And I think the name you're looking for is Laurence Angwin. That's one selection that gets laid directly at the doorstep of Uncle Gary - going directly against the advice of Fantasia and the rest of the recruiting department.

I haven't had anything good to say about Tambling's recruitment in a very long time. I jumped off his bandwagon while it was still full of shinytoyitis sufferers.

What I'd like to see and what I expect to see are two very different things.

Like:
OUT: Danger (inj), Wright, Thompson (inj), Jaensch
IN: Grigg, Hartigan, Johnston, Petrenko*

Expect:
OUT: Danger (inj)
IN: Grigg

* Pets gets the nod mostly due to a lack of other viable alternatives (Callinan & Tambling are not viable alternatives).

Not a Kerridge fan? I'm told he was very good for Sturt on the weekend. Surely he'll be back in crows colours this week or next...

Seriously, if Jaensch doesn't get dropped I'll be very surprised, although I've said that the last 2 weeks running. This time it would literally be taking the piss though.

I expect to see something like OUT: Dangerfield, Jaensch, IN: Grigg, Callinan, with Wright to either be the sub or be dropped for one of Petrenko / Kerridge.

I'd love to see both of Hartigan and Johnston given a go for at least a fortnight but can't see it happening unless there's an injury to 1 or more of Lynch, Rutten, Talia, Jenkins, Otten unfortunately.

That game was the only time in his entire AFL career that Smack has ever looked even vaguely like an AFL player.

As AFL ruckmen go, he is one of the worst regular rucks in the competition. As forwards go.. let's just say that his forward play makes his rucking look like a work of genius. He doesn't have a footy brain.

Last week he showed that he could actually mark the ball. He still can't kick to save his life and his decision making was beyond terrible. He has all the grace, coordination & agility of a newly born giraffe.

If I were given a choice between Jacobs and Smack, it would be Jacobs every single day of the week.
In no way am I a fan of McKernan....in fact I'd be looking to trade him. But in terms of agility and general field play, he makes Jacobs look like a (tall) tree stump.

Yes, I agree with what you've said. But what gets me is that lots of people sh1tcan Callinan, where he's got bucketloads more talent (even now) than a heap of hacks on our list. Should we continue playing him....now? No, probably not, but that's only because of what's bolded. Not because (as some people suggest) "he can't play".

Laurence Angwin? Yep - that's him. I'm not saying anyone that "dabbles" in a bit of "off-field shennannigans" should be cast into Hell. In fact far from it. But to turn up at Training/Games just after popping pills and expecting to get away with it? I think there was some sorta, weird, bizzare clepto-bullsh1t going on as well, but I'm a bit hazy on the details.

Tambling? Hats off to the lad on a personal level, but he trips over his own feet.

By no means am I saying that Otten is utterly useless - far from it. But is it just me, or is this lad forever falling over? I would dearly like to see how he actually performs any sort of lateral/agility training. He looks like he couldn't side-step around a tree. Just no agility.
The other thing is, he seems to fit into the type that I just don't have any time for - "Medium-sized player". He's not big and strong enough to hold down a Key Position, nor does he have enough leg speed to catch anyone. I see him spoil one or two marks a game, if that.

Trade bait in my books. Give some other Rookies a chance to play. Now.

Out: Danger
In: Grigg

IF Tommo is out in Kerridge

Won't play Johnston probably be a wet day (like every game this year)

I know that the coaches won't make all the changes that I would like and the positioning of the 22 will be just as important.

How about the following compromise Sando?

Defence
B: Brown - Rutten - Otten
HB: Laird - Talia - Henderson

Interchange:Mackay rotating through the back 6. (i.e. only one change, Smith moves to the midfield and Mackay moves back.

Midfield
C: Smith - Sloane - Crouch
1R: Jacobs - Douglas - Lyons
Interchange: Vince comes off the bench into the midfield mix with van Berlo, Kerridge, Porplyzia and Grigg also available to run through the midfield when the first line guys drop off the pace.

Crouch has been used as an outside midfielder since his return (on the wing in the old vernacular) and I would keep him there, even though he is likely to play more inside mid in the future. The main inside mids would be Sloane (a change in role), Douglas and Lyons.

Forwards

Something different this week, we play 6 forwards instead of leaving it up to Bartel, Enright and Taylor to decide who will set a 150 in dreamteam this week.
HF: Lynch - Jenkins - van Berlo
FF: Porplyzia - Johnson - Kerridge
Interchange: Grigg

van Berlo makes Enright or Bartel accountable, in fact all six forwards makes their opponents accountable.

Sub - Shaw

Jaensch in for Sturt
Kerridge and Tambling out for Sturt (Crows)

Johnston picked for North, Hartigan for South, Shaw for Glenelg

I was operating under the assumption that Kerridge is still injured. Happy to include him at Petrenko's expense if that's not the case.

I mainly really want to see Johnston and Grigg get a shot. Grigg lacks pace but being an inside and clearance player, he can manage without it. Johnston was horribly unlucky to get injured when he did, it's almost do or die for him now, IF he gets an opportunity, he needs to tear it apart and show the club why we need him on the list.

Tamblings last chance? Time to shine mate or you're gone. Good to see Kerridge back. Disappointed no Johnston yet, maybe his fitness hasn't been deemed good enough yet after that injury. Hopefully Grigg plays...

Seriously.. if Johnston can't get a game this week, with Smack suspended and Walker injured, he never will.. Looks like we have another player to be added to the list of certain departures at the end of the year.

What was I saying all week about the selectors going out of their way to avoid picking him? They've truly outdone themselves this time.

Fingers crossed Tambling should only be on the emergency list. Our game is on Sunday afternoon, so they'll be naming a list of 25, with a 7 man bench, 3 of whom will drop out before the game commences on Sunday.

It better be Grigg and Kerridge as the ins.

I'll cry if Callinan or Tambling play. What would be the point?

Surprised LJ hasn't been given his chance, we're incredibly short up forward when Jenkins gives Sauce a spell.

Wonder why we elevated Hartigan if we aren't going to play him?

I don't think anyone has issues with your historical analysis of a players selection. The issue was with your rigid view of the future based on previous selection, i.e. things don't change. For whatever reason it appears nothing will change with Johnston but that still doesn't support the premise that games played x time on our list = quality of player. All it means is the obvious, that the coaches haven't been selecting a player. I don't put blind faith in coaches. He'll be playing for the Bulldogs next year.
