Webb has seemed stiff to me - just yo yo's in and out. If he got a sustained run at selection despite lukewarm form in a game or two (like some players seem to have managed), well we might have a better line of sight on him. Can't answer your question based on the on the odd game here and there. You can only look at VFL form where he is dominant, and trust your eyes. When Webb gets time and space to kick, he is the best and most damaging kick in our team IMO. And that is a standout skill in a team full of hack kicks.

Wouldn't be surprised if Webb left at year's end - which would be pretty disappointing as he will be a better player than our recent departures like Hrovat, Hamling and Stevens IMO .
He averages 13 touches across the 16 non-sub games he's played. For someone who has been so critical of "some others" for their inability to actually get their hands on the ball often, you seem to be giving a pass to Webb for the exact same thing quite easily.

Why would you judge Webb on amount of touches since he has rarely played a mid role in the ones unlike some players...? In any case, I'd rather 13 clean Webb touches than say the 16 or less often butchered touches some other more mid players averaged in their first five years on our list...

I remain disappointed that Webb hasn't had a clear run at it and given a chance to improve his productivity. Guess we'll see what happens but if he can't force his way in its going to be a tough sell to retain him.

He's averaged less than 12.5 touches in the 7 games that he's played in midfield across the last two years.

In fact, with a low kick:hb ratio he's averaging a tad over 5 kicks per match. It doesn't matter how 'clean' his kicking it, it can only have limited influence on a match when it's occurring five times. And I suppose it's hard to butcher a touch when you're not winning it anyway.

I'm not doing this because I don't rate Webb, I'm doing it to be facetious because your very argument against Jong was his inability to rack up significant amounts of touches, when you're being hypocritical if you brush off those very same arguments against Webb.

Using my eyes, I see something in Webb that could benefit the team. His situation reminds me of Gilbee. Gilbee was a dominant centreman at VFL level and couldn't get a run at it under Rhode. I actually remember meeting Gilbee at the time at a corporate gig and his frustration was clear. A change of coach gave Gilbee a chance (he was gone if we didn't IMO) and he never looked back off HBF.

I genuinely haven't seen enough of Webb to decide on him. I have a sneaking suspicion he is a little slow but then Gilbee wasn't elite quick either.

IMO Webb could play the Gilbee role off HBF and be lethal. However, if he can't get a game when Murphy and Moyd are out then I worry he won't get a run at it under Bev.

I won't discuss Jong here, other than to say I'm not being hypocritical as I've never seen much in Jong to suggest he could become a good AFL player, while the opposite is true of Webb. My opinion only.

Webb might turn out alright, he may not

I certainly don't think he'll develop into an AFL level player by keeping him in the VFL, just needs to string a few games together to settle

If he can't do that, then adios..

Rather play Collins at CHB than Cloke.Hope Travis and MBoyd can turn it around. If Suckling has Webb covered, then he only needs about 5% improvement and to win a 1 on 1 contest to overtake him.Not that Sucklings on his own there.Thats why we are outside the 8.

Honeychurch to play according to Ryan Davidson.
I like that. I think Honeychurch can bring some of the attributes into the side that we've been missing in recent weeks.
Big game and or weeks coming up for him then in regards to his long term future at our club. I will certainly be interested to see how he meets these challenges.

He's not my favourite player but he deserves a chance. His form at VFL level has been solid without being outstanding. Everyone else with reasonable VFL form has had a go in the meantime so why not Honey?

For the record it will be a year to the day since he last played in the seniors - Rd 13 against Geelong in 2016. He only played 2 games last year.

Because match reports are still saying the same old thing...shit disposal, terrible kick at goal..? Back to the future selection for mine. Maybe its an Ayce Cordy last chance saloon scenario.

Roberts and English are also both confirmed outs.

But Zaine Cordy also confirmed in along with Moz and Toyd

So there is one more to come out from last weeks side assuming Liber and Honey both in.

B.Dale?

T Boyd, Cordy, Honey, Libba, Moz for English, Cloke, M Boyd, Roberts, Adams. No extra outs.

My pov o the much discussed Webb and Jong

Webb would be aware of impending retirements and I'm sure Bev has spoken to him regarding this. I believe he can and will become an integral part of our team, and as few have noticed, as a Gilbee type backman. Picture our squad sans Moyd, Murphy, Morris and God forbid, JJ. Gaps open up.

Jong to me is a great POD and a tough match up when played forward. Great overhead, can produce good pressure and once he believes in his kicking ability could become a 1-2 goal pw forward. I note he's named in a FP ( not that it means much these days), but if we are only playing one KPF type, guys that are great overhead for their size (Stringer, Jong, Dale, and even Crameri) become vital cogs to offset lack of height

I trust we will witness the rebirth of that manic style on Sunday. Players no doubt have been put on notice.

That leaves us with only six defenders. Cordy, Morris, Wood, JJ, Biggs and Suckling, so I'm expecting Williams in as well. Not sure who makes way for him though if the Honeychurch news is true.

Happy for Honey to come in. He isn't best 22 when everyone is firing but he'll give us some of the energy and intensity we've been lacking. His VFL form holds up and deserves to get a crack

I still don't think it's certain libba is back. Especially with so few defenders. If Honey is back, then either Libba doesn't play or Hunter rotates off the HBF

Could be.

Mind you the whole team apart from Dickson has the problem of being a terrible kick at goal and as you recently said we are a team full of hack kicks.

What that team of hack kickers failed to do last week was bring intensity to the contest and that's unacceptable.

I reckon on that basis he deserves a chance to show whether he can do any better and it might send a message to those who couldn't or wouldn't perform last week. As I say, I'm no great fan of Honey, but he's the only player on the list (apart from uncapped Hamilton and injured Prudden) who hasn't been tried this year.
EDIT: I meant to say excluding first year players/rookies of course.
