IN: T. Boyd, Morris, Honeychurch, Webb, Williams, Cordy
OUT: Adams (so mad that he is injured), Suckling, Cloke, English, Picken, M. Boyd

After going to the VFL these are my changes:

Out: In:
Adams (inj) Morris/ ZCordy
English T.Boyd
M.Boyd B.Williams
Suckling Webb/ Libba

Hunter on notice. Honeychurch stiff. Cloke to get another chance under the roof, is a scapegoat - was no worse than dickson or stringer.

I'm hopeful that this loss is a bit of a wakeup call for Bev and the Match Committee on a few fronts.

Firstly, we can't carry players in the side to give them experience and still expect to beat quality opposition. Selecting English was a luxury we couldn't afford against the Swans at the SCG. Hopefully Tom Boyd will be fit enough to play next week. If not it's a toss up between Cloke or Campbell for the back up Ruck role. I wouldn't mind putting the challenge to Cloke, I think he may benefit from having to work hard and get his own ball rather than expecting others to deliver it to him.

Secondly, after a low possession game, the performance of Lin Jong may be in for some overdue scrutiny. For most of the year he has apparently been unable to recognise when he is the person that is getting the ball clear of the contest and is therefore the one that needs to kick the ball or have the shot on goal, rather than just extend the handball chain and give it to someone else (often in a worse position than himself).
It has happened so often that I think the problem is deeper than just a game reading deficiency. What ever the cause, this is a serious flaw in his game and needs to be rectified, preferably in the VFL. Alternatively placing him in the forward line with explicit instructions not to handball, may be an option. But I'd bring in Honeychurch or Webb to take Jong's place for next week.

Zaine Cordy was in reasonable form before his surprising omission and he should come straight back into the side to replace Adams.

Whilst there are a few other's out of form, given our present injuries I would be inclined to give most of them another chance to redeem themselves, and instead look to shuffle a few positions.

Picken very lucky. He's way off the pace at the moment.
This looks about right to me Fronk but it's not an inspiring line-up the way they are playing. I just hope T.Boyd and Morris will be right to play.

I think Suckling would be lucky to survive along with Picken. It's between him and Jong for mine.

Do you see any value in Suckling? His kicking is what keeps him in the side but even that fails often enough.

I do see value in suckling. I didn't think he was bad on Thursday. Hes a point of difference for us.

There is absolutely no justification for having those first 4 in the team next week.

I'd have to agree with this. There's an argument against wholesale change but for varying reasons I'd be shocked if those four kept their place.

He can open things up with his kicking, though I'm worried he is a one trick pony.

Very poor defensively and opposition are awake to his lethal (when it is on) left foot. He was not the worst on Thurs, though I don't think he is B22.

Morris and Libba back, will help all our players walk taller. For me:

Ins: Libba, TBoyd, Cordy and Morris
Out: Adams (inj), Cloke, Dale, English

Think you're spot on here. Cordy played a great game last night and Libba looked far more committed. Next most likely is Bailey Williams who, along with Cordy, was our best in the VFL.

Amuses me to see that after a single half decent game of effort libba is good to come back in. That sends a great message to the rest of the group, put in a half decent effort in 1 out of 3 games and get a recall.

Out: Cloke, Adams (inj), English, picken, Jong

In: toyd, Morris, Cordy, Webb, honeychurch

Libba to have another vfl game involving the same amount of effort as last night then look at him being in the mix, Webb and Honeychurch were much better than him last week and very similar to him this week.

It worked well enough on Thursday. It was the right idea on a wet night to gain metres and rebound through his long kicking and ability to find a player in space. He also took a good CM but that's not normally his forte.

My worry with him is while that's a PoD (if he gets enough outside possession) he is fairly average in other aspects of his game and can be a liability if they close down his left side.

Perhaps, to use Paul Roos' expression, he's "the cream" in a good side. That is, he's not going to be much benefit while we're struggling for intensity and physicality. IMO what has helped keep him in the 22 are injuries to similar role players (eg Murphy, R.Smith) and the disappointing form of Matt Boyd and Bailey Williams when given their chance.

I know all these guys aren't coming in at the same time but the senior players, all of them, need to understand that there are players that are ready to take their spots. Performances like the Sydney game are unacceptable. F*** the credits in the bank excuse, make them play Friday night at WO in front of 2000 people and see how they like it.

Not sure dropping Dale will do him any good, particularly when he was close to best on against St Kilda, I'd back him in to perform with a couple of games under the roof coming up.

The conditions didn't suit him or JJ or most of our running players, we didn't load up with enough contested ball winners, or a strong ruckman like Campbell to feed whoever/be an aerial target and that was a reason why we were smashed.

Agree with the ins though, but someone else other than Dale goes.

Is Suckling's left boot a line breaker? To me, it's a theory and a myth rather than a reality. He might try it but I rarely see it come off. He's achieved very little this season. Caleb Daniel's creativity, Johannisen, Murphy, the Bont on form - all better line breakers than Suckling.

Clearly cloke isn't working up forward. Wouldn't hate seeing them try him in the backline for at least one game. This is as good as any. Prefer Cordy up forward

Cloke was drafted as a forward and it's that or bust for him. When played in the ruck against Collingwood and Geelong the opposition just racked up clearance after clearance. He's never played back. Out or forward but frankly I reckon Red offers more.

In any event unless we can arrest out bleeding from centre clearances we're stuffed. Boyd back in the ruck will help. One of Honeychurch and Libba might also help.

I am not too down on the results so far. All of our losses are away against sides in form. We've not lost and the G or Etihad since the home and away season last year and with plenty to play at those grounds there's a chance to get back in form and do damage but back to back is looking like a fantasy.

The reality is that we need to start blooding the replacements for Boyd, Picken, Murphy and Morris and that means we need Mclean, Webb, Cordy, Williams etc in wherever possible.

I understand your logic re: Dale, though don't agree. Some of his defensive efforts were not good enough, irrespective of which level he is playing (amateur 6th's).

Don't get me wrong I think he has AFL attributes to work with. It will be interesting to see what the MC do. If they take your point of view, they will have plenty of alternatives (Moyd, Suckling, Picken ...).

Leave Dale in. Need his poise and skill on the wing, will be fine in the Etihad vacuum.

Rough and Boyd in the ruck should give us first use against the Dees and I expect a significant lift in intensity from our ball winners.

Regarding Suckling, I think his major weapon in his left boot has been talked up to the extent that when it doesn't come off, he's deemed worthless.

In reality he's an above average zonal defender and a link-up presence throughout, and when he's slicing presses open with the cannon, even better.

Extremely unfair that he's been anointed as the new whipping boy by Dogs fans, if you ask me (which you probably didn't, sorry).
