Disappointed we didn't drop Atkins - he has been putrid most of the year.

Can't argue with Himmelberg/Jones being dropped -both were not offering nearly enough. They will come back stronger and hungrier, but in the meantime we should be giving a Mchenry/Mcadam/Stengle a go.

LOL one of the great moments of the last 20 years. I checked on youtube and surprisingly it's not there.

Hard to be critical of Pittard.

It's still on YouTube.

Look up "dmac vs dees".

Hard to work out issues surrounding Atkins. Some of his poor efforts stretch back a bit, and surely we can assume there’s been some strong conversations at a minimum.

Yet here we are down the track and no selection punishment.

Can only assume he’s performing as they want him to. But I agree I would have spelled him 2 weeks ago.

You have watched enough footy to realise if the team is travelling poor your outside runners are the first to go missing as the ball is either not fed out enough or the delivery to them is poor

Every team over the history of the game has their outside mids as their whipping boys more often than not

Would hope he would supply run. Shows glimpses and then nothing. Has the talent but seems play well when everyone around him is playing well. To me he goes missing a lot.

He wouldn't be an emergency if he was unwell.

I reckon this goes back to my statement after R1. If Seeds, Milera and Smith were all fit for that game he wouldn't have played. They picked him last week but realised their error.
Exactly. Add Laird.

He is in that depth chart.

Hopefully McPherson and Scholl can go past him this year and in 2021 he retires or we delist him.

No Google is an evil company, they are not my friend, they are evil and must be destroyed
You are now on a Terrorist Watch list.

I for one love our Google overload and especially appreciate how after 20 minutes after I ask my wife via a text message if she can drive me and the boys to Pirate Life next weekend for a tasting session, I get Pirate Life advertisements in my Facebook feed.

Very helpful.

That first half against West Coast was promising enough, and you'd expect fade outs/bog average performances at half forward as par for the course. Firmly at the bottom of the chain supply wise, and would be a position that would be primarily about just playing to a structure and making the most of the scant opportunities you would get. Something Gallucci usually does well (but like all kids has the occasional horror moment that experience will inevitably clean up).

Equally in saying that, it's also not hard to see why we're thinking there is a bright future here. Good amount of strength there, very quick, good defensively (usually) good short kick (usually) would translate to a midfield role well when he does inevitably make the switch (and I'm guessing we're not far from pulling that trigger either). Tools are definitely there for it.
He's been largely unnoticeable in every game I've watched this season from him, other than a short cameo for a quarter here or there. I think every other Crows player that's strung together 5 games like he has this season has been dropped.

He's averaging just over 12 touches a game and has only managed 1 goal and 7(!) tackles. So he's not kicking goals, he's not making tackles, he's not racking up possessions. So what is he doing? Running good patterns?

Like the Gooch but agree he’s not where he needs to be right now.

Clearly they want him as a best 22 and giving him every opportunity to run himself into some form.

"If you choose to make examples of Jenkins and Gibbs only to bring them back when you start losing control of the season ...
then you're panicking. And now that you've chosen to bring them back, realise they're in your best eight players, leave them in, and see where it takes you."

Does Damian Barrett even watch any football?

I am a fan of JJ and Gibbs, and want to see them back playing good footy for us again. But this year neither would be anywhere near our best 8. In fact in the B&F either would be lucky to be in our top 20.

All that sounds great and positive and all..but with all that quality we still could not beat brisbane, a bog average hawthorn and a rubbish north melbourne side. Tells me these guys are just average players
Huh? So you can pick the eyes out of three losses and point at having these guys in the 22 as the reason? Cmon.

Players have ups and downs. They have stuff going on mentally and physically that we don't add into our equations. They aren't robots.

Some guys are on the way up, some are on the way down, some are at the peak.

Sometimes you get it wrong and keep some in too long, some don't get in early enough, some are played out of position, some just aren't up to it.

Also, you make it sound like Brisbane, Hawks and North don't deserve to be on the same field or something ... the teams are all MUCH closer than you are inferring.

Watching Hberg the last two weeks he has definitely been struggling offensively.

Against the Lions he started quite well controlling that CHF area. Then they out Andrews on him and he was a passenger. WCE game no real impact other than a decent tackle count, so at least the effort is there.

He has had two games against very good backlines, and struggled. I think a key part of him playing in the Reserves is in getting into a better head space in terms.of dominating a game from the forward line.

He is not 21 yet. It would be easy for a kid to get stuck into a negative grind once the reality of AFL footy kicks in, ie other teams will start taking notice of you and try to negate your game. This is magnified for a KPF where he is more likely to have a mature body against him for most of the game. He is still a kid. We need him to learn to thrive rather than survive.

Given his last two games it is good timing a mental break in a lower league.

I think this kind of reasoning is more why he has been omitted rather than getting Jenkins in.

Of course if Jenkins comes in a changed man and competes and does well the SANFL stint may be a bit longer.

Spot on. I think Himmelberg is the first choice now. It's on Jenkins to hold his spot more than it is on Himelberg to reclaim it.

Two emergencies? Lynch is going to be a late out isn't he?
With Mackay as travelling emergency any player under a cloud will be put under the most gruelling fitness test ever encountered

Great post re EH management, excellent observations.

If you look at a kid like Harry McKay he was developed in a very similar way. Not that we always want to copy duds like Carlton but he has come on well.

I always think the best defence is offence. I like to see an attacker be the one the defenders have to worry about until the ball is turned over or is about to be turned over.
I have to admit that "the plan" (sending a forward into the midfield, leaving the forward zone one man short @ 5-6) made little sense to me. All I was saying was that Tex was given a job to do and at least in Eddie's eyes --- and his teammates' --- Tex did that job, but it meant he was 2-on-1 against and could not possibly be pro-active. So, Tex was out of action, EH had burned out, leaving Betts/Murphy/Milera/Knight to kick our goals.
Unbalancing numbers doesn't seem a great way to overcome the 6-6-6, which places a greater burden on mids to run back or forward asap to create loose man/men.
Being 33 points up a few minutes into the third quarter is a prime time to keep doing whatever it was that they were doing that got them 33 points up in the first place. IF one of our forwards went into the midfield, it was totally ineffective because Gaff and Shuey ran through and around stoppages, seemingly unmarked, to create wave after wave of I50s for the WCE. Our mids have to shoulder the blame for their lack of defensive pressure. NOT Tex's fault.
I've just watched the highlights again.
WCE have a track record of coming from behind. All they need is a sniff, which was provided by Talia with 15mins to play in 3rd quarter + Kennedy goal + free kick with 13 mins to go.
3 goals in 2 minutes, momentum totally changed, score deficit not looking insurmountable = they go on to win.
