I expect that Sam Shaw will play every game this year if he doesn't get injured (and that sure is a big fat IF).
In his other short stints between injuries he has steadily improved his disposal and effectiveness once he has a few games under his belt.

I would bring in M Crouch and Laird.

Out - Porps and Martin.

If Dougy passes the fitness test (will it be televised?) then Bob will probably miss out. I fear that they may drop Jarryd which I would argue is plain dumb. I would like to see a new more adventurous selection policy but I don't expect to see it. I do not believe that we can afford to play both Podz and LJ and we need to increase our tackling in the F50. Charlie come on down.

If LJ does play (and on balance he deserves to play) and he marks the ball with 90 seconds to go and we are 9 points up, DON"T PLAY ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fair enough you saw different, but Ill say it again play him in too many games and we will burn him out Neade style. I agree hes a talent and could be special but at this stage hes not on the main list and giving him a pay rise is just silly.

Give him a few games in the real SANFL against the better sides and see how he goes. Admittedly I think WWT will be one of those but the kid had 10 touches I reckon, its unfair to throw him into the big time now.

You didn't read my post closely. I said that we should limit him to half a dozen or maybe ten games--whatever he can handle--and make him sub in some of them.
On the 2nd point, if he is upgraded why not a pay rise?

I read it, just dont agree. And if hes upgraded he gets an automatic one I assume, you made it sound like he gets an extra one due to him being special.

I wanna see him play, give him a soft run in though.

THIS BOARD:

"Why don't they ever play Martin? He needs a run of games. The selectors are idiots."

[Martin plays one game]

"Martin is a passenger, if he plays the selectors have no idea."

NOW you're getting the idea! ;)

Hey! Don't include me in this. I have not wanted Martin anywhere near our best 22. He actually didn't have that special of a preseason. He was average against Port and Carlton. He then had the luck of playing well against GWS at the same time we lost Otten, Douglas, Lynch so somehow bigfooty momentum turned him into this jet who had been unjustly screwed over by the selectors.

For me - just the two changes:

Out: Brodie Martin, Lyons
In: Richard Douglas, Reilly

Lineup is as follows:

FB: Brown Rutten Shaw
HB: Jaensch Talia Smith
C: Kerridge Thommo Sloane
HF: Douglas McKernan Porps
FF: Bets Pods Johnston
RR: Jacobs Crouch Danger

IC: Reilly, Grigg, Wright
Sub: Mackay

I don't think Laird should come back in just yet. He is a young player who has only played 18 career games and had one uninterrupted preseason. Let him get some more touch in the SANFL first.

Lyons is unlucky and to be honest I wouldnt be upset if we kept him at the expense of Reilly (I would be happier if we dropped Jaensch and moved Reilly to HB and Lyons to the midfield). I just dont think the selectors will drop Jaensch.

Not me. Never endorsed his inclusion in the first place.

Martin just doesn't have the break the lines running ability he had in his first couple of games. He needs to seize his chances, which he hasn't so far. Not too many chance left for Marto. As soon as Otten is fit he's goneski.

I think muscle is the required commodity this week. On a narrow ground those puny bodies of Port Adelaide won't be able to avoid punishment as they might on wider grounds. wouldn't pick any skinny kids if I could avoid it. nothing a good long kick out of half back won't fix the hardest runnng sides at AO. They'll get worn out sprinting back as the ball careers over their head.

In: Douglas and Laird
Out: Martin and Lyons(don't want to happen but probably will if Dougy returns)

To be fair, his pre season form was very good.

I know that some may see this as a little harsh

Given his pre-season I had no issue with Porpy getting a gig for round 1 however with that said once the minor round starts his form needs to be based on premiership pts games.

With this in mind it has to be a concern that when it counts for points Porpy is still going missing

I'm in the first camp, but I'm also in the "we should know if Martin can play by now" camp.

How long has he been on the list? Why didn't he play at the end of last year when we were out of contention? Why did Tambling play if we knew he was gone?

Brodie Martin's predicament sums up how much we have ****ed up as a club.

It's unfair to drop him after one game, but we're in the unique position of not knowing if he has what it takes. A double whammy of incompetence.

Not harsh at all. Its the reality.

The only thing we need to be mindful is that we make a decision early. Give him 2-3 games in a row. If he doesn't perform - career over.

Where is the Brodie Martin who busted his knee in a showdown yet still ran hard and fast. I was all for him getting a gig and maybe this week to show what hes got but in reality he is a depth option at best and as players return he will go back to state league, probably as soon as this week.

Would've delisted him before Tambo but alas that didn't happen.

In Douglas, Laird
Out Porplyzia, Martin

I don't like the idea of Martin being scrap-heaped without a few games in a row. But in terms of putting the best fit and available on the park this week, those changes make sense. Couple on notice though;
Thommo - Matt crouch/Lyons combo
Pods - Jenkins

Could argue shaw - Reilly, but that's opposite to my 'out with the old' premise.
