Just wanted it to be heard that I think Chris Scott has been an amazing pick up for you guys. Yeah I know I'm stating the obvious but he has totally re energized your list which I certainly had dropping off this year. Not only that but you got some great young kids shining through which I rate very highly, so that's another positive change he's brought on the club.

Also gotta give him credit for the tweaking of your game play which has payed dividends, and the fact that every presser and interview I've seen he constantly looks at the things that you need to work on despite not having lost a game yet. He could easily be arrogant and cocky, but it just goes to show what a great coaching mind he has got by constantly working on structures and other key fundamentals of the game.

I know there is still a long way to go but lets hope he carries Geelong to another Grand Final and hopefully a premiership, because I don't wanna see Collingwood go back to back.

Well said. I love the way he deals with the media. He always gets a barrage of questions about 'this amazing undefeated start' but he always puts it into context and doesn't get carried away. Very honest about Hawkins and Mooney last night. Continues to impress. :thumbsu:

Good call, Elite Master. What I like the most about Scotty is that he appears to be a very, very good tactician. He has an excellent footy brain. It's all about tactics these days in footy, isn't it? Mark Thompson was a great coach who managed to get the best out of the players, but tactically left a little to be deisred.

Granted he came up with a brilliant game plan that won us two premierships, but he didn't seem to want to improve or evolve the game plan to suit modern footy trends. Chris Scott is always seeking to improve and to keep up with the latest trends. I really admire Mick Malthouse for this reaso

I think at this stage he has judged to perfection where we are at as a club. We are 9-0 and the media are focussing on our old playing list and are completely overlooking the fact that we are basically 9-0 and rebuilding at the same time. We could reach the finals and get bundled out in straight sets - Scott knows this - and to that end has integrated a lot of the younger guys so if the worst does eventuate in September it won't have been a completely wasted year.

Duncan, Menzel and Taylor Hunt have basically become first 22 players after playing a handful of games each last year. Scott has introduced Guthrie, Christensen, Vardy and Cowan so far this year with the prospect of a few more to come. Hopefully with the taste of AFL footy these guys can go back to the VFL, work on their games, have big pre seasons and follow on with their development next year as Duncan & co have this year.

Chris Scotts has been impressive but he also inherited a healthy club as well. Our list, though aging, is still very talented. The leadership group is very strong. The club is finacially secure and growing and the culture within the club is positive.

The real test of Scott as a coach will come next year and beyond as we begin losing Premiership players and start rebuilding. But I am impressed with how he has tweaked our game plan, I like his game day coaching and tactical nous, and I like how he has slipped in as if he has been there for years.

It's been a good start, but the real tests are yet to come.

I was happy when he got the job -because i thought he could make some tough indendant calls on certain players that Hinkley and Sanderson would be compromised IN doing . I think his record as a player gives him instant respect .which i think is important . I think the board have done a good job with all the coaches they have selected beginning with Blight . Blight really turned Geelong from a perennial underachieving rabble to a consistently good team. But i think Bomber deservrs the most credit brcause he finally god rid of the Front Runners Tag which had dogged Geelong teams for years .
My one and only criticism of C Scott is reappointing Ling as captain . If we play Carlton in the finals -Ling with his lack of pace shouldnt be in the team-but hes captain-a dilemma you dont need.

Good point. One thing to take on board is Ayres took us to a GF his first year.
Its often been said that the first year is as easy as it gets but just like Buckley next year the pressures on him are not normal Rookie coach pressures , he came into a job with a list like few others.

The thing I love is the way he is balancing the new and the old , some hard stuff still to control. Mooney , Ling , Dasher then Otto , Wojo and perhaps some others must be happy that the club is in good hands , that there is talent there for it stay competitive but it still will be difficult for them to accept that they are just about done.

Even Thompson had issues with this , remember the way Budda finished.

Love the bloke so far.
Me and the mates were having a good laugh at his face expression from the box on Saturday night.

The best thing about him is his passion. I love how it looks like he is about to punch the window in the box :D

I agree with this. Happy with Chris Scott so far and it could be inferred that he must be pushing the right buttons, since we have come from significant deficits to win games against St Kilda, Hawthorn, Collingwood, Carlton and Gold Coast. On the other hand, our starts have been fairly rubbish so far, which may also come back to the coach.

It's got to be said that the true tests will be when we've got a mediocre/poor team, much and all as I like what he's shown.

I figure there's a whole host of things I really like about Chris Scott already, but his passion is definitely high on the list.

Happened again on Saturday night; he looks how I feel...

EDIT: Apologies, Beth - stopped reading at vc's post, and didn't see you'd already covered this...

Anyone who has a kind word to say about Gary Ayers' tenure at Geelong is a dip shit. He systematically ripped the heart out of the team and then amazingly proceeded to do the same at Adelaide.

I think we have the Coach to take us to another Premiership - if we have the cattle on the Park we need.

We are close - but I think we are a key position forward down at present.

What I like about Scott - it seems he has some tactical skill. I think Bomber was somewhat deficient in this regard. And he will play kids.

So I think we will know at end of the year how good we are, what we are missing and what we need to get.

If we are close - we should go out and do whatever we can to get the missing piece of the puzzle (my guess either a CHF or Ruckman at his point in time).

In otherwords we need big Dawson or Vardy to come good over the season. Maybe Hawkins will play better - but for me right now - it is more of a hope than a belief.

Scott was just on the couch.

What I found most interesting was when Gerard asked about our depth ruckmen, what their prospects are..

He asked firstly about Dawson Simpson,

Then Trent West - who healey quickly remarked was almost finished.

then mark Blake, who Healey thought the sub rule was the end f him.

As soon as his question ended Scotty interestingly, almost aggresively said "i didnt hear what you said about Trent west" then assured Healy he is defintely not finished and that the cats were about to bring him in in round 5 before Trent go injured, and went on to show that he is close and the club has plans for him.

he also mentioned simpson will be managed and devloped more but they have strong hopes of him..

Just saw him on the coach. Very impressed. Nothing really too revealing but he indicated again that Blake is done and dusted. he also said Duncan menzel and Taylor hunt were definitely in the best 18.

..

Great!

I hate it when these commentators offhandedly do damage to a young player's career without a thought. Why would you belittle some young player who is trying his guts out in the seconds?

I love how he gives nothing away in the after match pressers, all under the banner of 'team secrets' both very smart and refreshing. As a fan I prefer to be in the dark, rather than the coach brag about how smart he is *cough* Malthouse *cough*... actually that's probably unfair, Malthouse does a very good job of distracting the media.

He gives plenty away. Well enough for me.
i.e. He talks about not being happy with Hawkins / SJ

Bomber was like that too early. It gives supporters a feeling that the coach shares the passion.

Ayres never had it. Part of the reason I saw about 5 games in 6 years.
It felt like all the feeling was ripped out of the club. I reckon the saints are going to rue having Lyon for the same reason.

Spin has a shelf life.

West comments are no surprise, I remember back in maybe round 5 or 6 ish when he was asked on tweet when vardy would play scott said (and I'm paraphrasing) that vardy was next in line and would play real soon, but they had been very happy with West and he would play soon too (pre injury obviously).

Now obviously this partly indicates another ruckman has passed Blake in their eyes and he is unlikely to ever play again, but it is good to see that Scott is showing some faith in Westy. Sometimes when a player has been on the list so long without cementing a spot we come to deride them as deadwood. Lonners proved a lot of us wrong this way. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying West will necessarily make it or become a solid pick each week like Lonergan has, but it is good that Chris is not necessarily jumping off a player just because he's been here a long time and hasn't broken through (in West's case he's seriously lacked opportunity). I think it's good that he has that attitude. :thumbsu:
