Dont give me that shit....he didnt build that team, he inherited it from Bomber, bloody Brendon Bolton could have won a premiership with that team!!!!
Sorry I thought Steven Wells and his crew built the team, my bad.

Don’t know how to feel. He can’t fix the continuing problems of losses after byes, shock loses to poor teams, inconsistency and crapping the bed in finals.

But unless we could get the angry midget i don’t see the solution. I wouldn’t have minded to see someone like caracella get the gig though.

While I would have waited on re-signing Scott until after the season, I'm not upset with this decision.

Probably the biggest surprise is that it's a 3-year extension when Scott's recent contracts have all been 2-year deals and initial talk in the media suggested it would be along those same lines.

No doubt it would have been nice to win another premiership or two over recent seasons but for a variety of reasons we have fallen short. With Scott at the helm for the next 4 years we have a level of stability as the team goes through this transition period. One thing I hope we do see from the club is a review (or whatever you want to call it) of our other coaching staff and ensure we have the right mix & balance with our assistant coaches - and lets make some changes to bring in fresh faces & ideas that way.

Congratulations to CS. Everything that has been said by Cookie makes sense.
Anybody who was hoping their outspoken negativity about CS on this board was going to have any impact on this decision- you'll now have until 2022 to accept reality and have a bit of decorum. The blatant lack of respect for a highly esteemed AFL coach on these threads has been embarrassing.
Those who keep "measuring" CS ONLY by his finals/GF success %, it might be time to accept that there are other and more important parameters in choosing a career coach.
Nothing needs to be rehashed here about all the outstanding attributes CS brings to Geelong FC and the AFL.

Listening to Cook on radio on the weekend it’s a forward looking assessment. They simply think he’s an excellent coach who is best placed to steer the ship. Cook even said something like “even if we go through a transition phase” which I took to mean something resembling closer to a traditional rebuild.

I think I heard that... My instant reaction was ..lets not rock the boat. "Even if we go thru transition" ..where do you think that puts Cook in relation to our debate on Rebuild... we have not even started transition yet.

"During his tenure Scott has led Geelong to victory 130 times in 188 contests. His winning rate of 69.5% is the highest in AFL history for a coach with over 100 games."

Seriously, for Geelong supporters this is solid gold. A great coach, a great mentor to his players and a wonderful signing.

On a side note....

A lot of detractors wax lyrically about Matthew Scarlett. In fact every single person who loves the GFC knows what Scarlett did for this team. He’s ruthless, abrasive and is principle driven first and foremost. He was known as the de facto leader behind Harley.

Most people would do well to consider how a GFC legend (who was instrumental in keeping Bomber, at the end of 2006, by threatening to walk), who has such a huge amount of love for the club would support Scott as a player and then subsequently come back and be one of his assistant coaches...

And that purple patch made some supporters think that we should win the flag every year. And that if we don't we've clearly got a crap coach.
Making top 4 4 times in five 5 years makes me think the return should have been slightly better than two finals wins and a raft of smashings.

Also, when you go out and recruit senior players with the express purpose of competing for a flag, it makes me think that a pass would at least be a grand final appearance.

It happens. Every club has them, even the Hawks. The draft can be an absolute lottery at the best of times.

Look at our best 22.
Take out those who were best 22 before he started.
Take out trade-ins
Take out youngsters (though promising) where it's too early to judge.
There's not a of Scott developed players left that have progressed how we'd hoped
Yes injuries are out of his control but I believe he and his team have not performed well with developing players

Other comments he made were about how Scott had rebuilt the list.

It was in the context of him saying it’s in our DNA to aim for top 4 every year. I took him to mean he accepts that’s not always going to happen and if there’s a lean patch he wants Scott there.

Club is going nowhere for four years then.
That would be great - away games at Geelong as well, like the 4 Victorian teams already guaranteed finals this year- many home and away games at their G

The one comment I liked ..he made observation about how Geelong like to play.. it show a core understanding that comes from the length of time he has been at the club.
