Clean slate prior to finals?

See no reason why players can't just follow the rules here.

Furthermore don't think the AFL or broadcasters would go for this with many more eyeballs on the game during finals

Ron The Bear is usually good with these type of stats.

What is the percentage of players currently without any fines/indescretions to their name? I'd imagine in a normal season about 95% of players manage to get through without suspensions. Why are we changing the rules for 5%?

The 3 fines rule has worked well IMO, it's given the MRP an opinion inbetween nothing and 1 match susupension. If you rack up three fines you deserve a week off.

You think the MRP won't apply their orchestrated riggle room within the terminology wherever they can once finals arrive?

How long have you followed this game?
Maybe but then they didn't apply the same wriggle room to one of the brownlow favs when they possibly could have.

They get a feel for the public opinion before they move on these things.

Do you think public opinion would be for giving a cotchin or Martin a reprieve if they transgressed again?
It would depend on the circumstances.

Reset points before finals. Just to deny the option of deliberate offences on the penultimate round of h&a season when someone's on two fines and wants to get suspended before the finals.
Getting a 3rd fine (and suspension) doesn't reset anything, so if players are trying to get a 3rd one, they're idiots.

So the last game of the season you can take out any player and have no worries for the following week (for a finals playing team)
I wouldn't call a jumper punch "taking out" a player. And no if it happened in the last rd you'd be suspended for the first final. I'm talking about once finals start.

Here is a better solution if you are on two fines and in danger of missing an important final use your brain and dont punch your opponent in the guts or grab his jumper and punch him in the chin

This. The Swans are in the same position as Richmond of having two players with two fines - Jones and Buddy. But they just need to start to learn not to engage in the kind of stupid, mostly off-the-ball, actions that have got them into that position.

With players now being suspended after 3 minor indiscretions is it time the afl give every player a clean slate after the home and away season just like soccer does in the World Cup with yellow cards after the group stages?
Imagine a player on 2 fines playing in a hotly contested preliminary final missing a grand final for something like Luke hodge was suspended for last week?
I think the time is right for all players from teams that have made finals to not have those fines carry over into the finals.

Best case for Richmond is that Dusty gets a reprimand before finals. Then he has a clean slate and we don't need this thread.

Every subsequent "classifiable offence" after you get 3 is another game off.

If you also have a poor loading, you'll get 2 games off for every offence (Hawkins).

Again - that's not how it works. Nothing resets after 3 fines. A player is suspended if they have 3 or more fines/reprimands (i.e. he'd get a week for every subsequent one too).

It makes sense in soccer because you can get a yellow card for pulling someone's jumper.

We're talking about punching blokes here and if you've already been cited twice for the year then you deserve a ban if you do it again.

No.

No, but I might be open to a discussion of managing such a loading by resting a player for a game of your choosing to reset it.

Failing that, the player could just pull off a third offense to enforce the week off before finals.

Hmm. Interesting proposition.

I'm against wiping the slate clean in general, but as far as the 2 small indescetions being wiped it might have some merit.

Wasn't sure how it goes after the third fine. Good to hear it works like this.

I suppose only tommy hawkins might try the idiot solution anyway?

I feel there is merit to this. Despite my views on Cotchin, many people think he should have been suspended, which is fine.

The AFL was never going to suspend him or anyone deemed in trouble this weekend, it feels it could be a good opportunity for the AFL to save face on decisions like this and reduce the risk of a player missing for a 50/50 act.

Nobody wants to see players miss finals games for minor infringements.

I'd be very upset if dusty missed a grand final over a minor incident as any supporter would however no agenda here, I would hate to see any star player miss out on a possible once in a lifetime opportunity to play in a grand final due to a minor incident that would normally just produce a fine.
Rocca missed a GF for a minor incident, possibly cost us a premiership as it severely upset our structure, was ****ing bullshit.

J. Cloke missed one the previous season, although it's pretty hard to justify him getting off, even if it was an accident.

Yet, when Sydney had their star forward up for striking compassion could be found, and that my friend is the AFL.
