Guess we all heard about we only Drafted Jason and Cameron to get Travis because they believed he was the next big thing and In away they were correct.

Does any know if this is true or just a Myth.

I don't believe it because both Cameron and Jason where good Underage Prospects and could even say we got them as bargains. Jason started very well and was one of the best Young Defenders when he started and Cameron just had no luck with his Shoulder and we were bit harsh on Cameron letting him go because of his Shoulders?

What do you think?

Urban legend.

Both jason and Cameron were stiff, Cameron in particular. His shoulder problems were what resulted in his delisting..a bit like Rusling???

Just a myth when we got Jason trav was a 14yo and if i remember right a short 14yo, we had no idea at that stage.

Even as a 15yo when we got cam trav was yet to be a standout at juniors just solid, and he a good carnival if i remember right though and thats when the rumour came out because Richmond pushed hard for him

Were they both 3rd round picks?

From memory Jason was rated low 4th (so over value) or lower, but Cameron was rated by some as possible top 20 material. Travis was always going to be a good get.

I might have Jason and Cameron back to front though.

It's a myth.

How old would have Travis been when you gave up pick 19 to get Jason Cloke under the father son rule?

Somewhere around 12 or 13 years old. Nobody would draft a player at pick 19 just on the off chance his 13 year old brother shows some talent as a key forward four years down the track.

Yeah Trav would been 13 and According to people showed nothing Special

Greg Miller was quite angry trav took our 3 year deal instead of the tigers 5 year deal so i would say him
Would not Surprise me - Then I guess it was just a Angry comment and It got through as a Myth

We're on bigfooty Dave ;)

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if you started this rumour and forgot about it lol
I was not on Internet Forums in 2004

We overpaid for Jason with Pick 19 under F/S. The other two were bargains according to where people rated them if they hadn't gone f/S.

Cam was Top 20 material and Trav was first rounder no questions asked, probably 4-9 or thereabouts

You have it all wrong Dave.
Collingwood actually had an inkling that David Cloke had some very promising Sperm. They worked hard and long to get him across from Richmond specifically with the aim of using the "Father Son" rule to pick up the yet to be conceived, or even named, Travis. It is just coincidence that Jason and Cameron were conceived and named before Travis and a bit of set back as earlier testing of a sample of David's sperm showed Travis zygote had a better "beep" score and skin fold test.

Theoretically Travis should have been born first but them's the breaks with "Ultra long range" player development programs.:D

The decision has been bourne out by the results though.

I don't regret taking Jason. At that stage we needed key defenders. He was probably a bit unlucky to be dropped. Similar situation with Cameron. We needed ruckmen and I guess they decided that his shoulders were knackered. The jury is still out on him. Travis is worth it though. He, providing he has another tall forward option, has shown he is a very good player.

People forget that Jason was pretty highly rated when we drafted him too and was All Australian at under 18 level.

I'm dissapointed we let Cameron go because I think he's a player that has size and gives maximum effort. I guess it was his chronic shoulder problems that sealed his fate.

The rumour is utter crap because all both Jason and Cameron were highly rated themselves.

Greg Miller was quite angry trav took our 3 year deal instead of the tigers 5 year deal so i would say him

Miller was the one that was laughing when we chose Thomas over Ellis, then Pendlebury, now look who is laughing....

Miller is the bloke who just got sacked by the least successful team of the last 20 years and was last seen heading off in a campervan to tour around Australia. He's a great judge! ;)

Jason was All Aus U18 fullback.

Unfortunately his pace and iffy kicking put him on the same pile as Mark McGough (ie. guys with AFL attributes, but too slow and scrappy).

Cam was the bigger stretch. I saw him in his U18 Grannie and he wasn't much chop. Tweener height and is best suited in the ruck. Dodgy shoulders don't help.

Travis was a legit shot to get picked up by Richmond. He was obviously the pick of the litter due to pace and looking like a definite AFL level key forward.
