Make it 2 picks then. Surely they're expecting something back for 7 and a player they've previously deemed worthy of an $800k contract.
GCS are giving away the player and pick 7 for his salary to be off their books.
Same as what we did with Treloar but different 😉

Why haven’t we already executed the McStay deal? I would have thought FA deals only need 1 day given most would have already agreed on a contract during the season.
Reckon we might’ve wanted last night done before bringing in players.

They didn't deem him worthy of 800k a year. His contracted was back ended, similar to Treloar.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if we had done the same as what GCS are doing by giving away a pick for nothing... except we couldn't, because trades had to be equitable. Luckily for the GCS the AFL conveniently changed the rules around trading last week...

I don't think GCS are really expecting anything for Bowes/7 if the suitor takes his entire contract off their books.

Unless there's more than one club willing to do so, both of which Bowes is willing to go to, in which case there may become a bidding war.
Not really, it will just come down to who Bowes chooses. It's a salary dump and they only want a third round pick

Pies will sit back and see how else they can benefit from the trade i.e picks here and there to make it more beneficial for us. The deal is always there just looking to improve it somehow - no rush.

Sidebottom, Howe, Pendles top 5 in the BnF which is great but shows how we really need to smash the next couple drafts.

And let's just say we have a shocker like last year, then the pick is around 38-40.

Frampton is on the verge of delisting. Trading a future third for him is just dumb business.

Lipinski was much younger,, hadn't really been given a full opportunity at AFL level and hadn't already been traded for a future fourth round selection three years prior.

That's right, Adelaide was able to wrestle him out of Port Adelaide for a future 4th rounder when he was 3 years younger.
Lipinski was much younger and was more experienced having played more games.

I'm wondering if they want to work out the Grundy to Melbourne deal first so they're not in a position where they technically have to move Grundy because they've already signed McStay.

Trading is allowed from Monday and free agent signings until Friday, so if they can get something done before Friday on Grundy, they keep themselves out of any potential games with salary dumps.

Yep and his value has improved despite mainly playing VFL. Adelaide should wait another couple of years. They may get a 1st rounder for the Benjamin Bean of the game.

Henry leaving so soon should be the final nail in the Hine coffin.

He is clearly not asking the right questions at interviews. He is probably asking basic questions - “Will you get home sick” etc

They need to be asking the questions from different angles and at different stages of the interview. And probably do more back ground research into players.

Hopefully the next recruiter does a better job.
Maybe the club backs itself in creating an environment that once a player is here, they would want to stay.

Having said this, maybe they only recruit those players who have terrible relationships with the family.

But can you expect a kid to want to go home less than 1 hour’s drive up the road to be closer to family or just to play footy with his brother?

Who else has left the club? Only becomes an issue if it’s a regular occurrence.

No I think GC are expecting a future 2nd pick as they need points for next year
They don't need points - they are trying to clear the salary cap & they have players that are surplus to needs.
Bowes & Fiorini are mids being played out of position because GC already have Miller, Rowell & Anderson in there.
The AFL website also suggests they could go after a "big fish" next year, as well as paying Rowell & Anderson much bigger money.

That would be worse than having to ask (in Ollie’s case) Taz if he’d get homesick coz he’s moving away from Mildura.

I’ve spent more time driving home from work in peak hour traffic than it would take to commute btn Melbourne to Geelong on most days.
Well funnily enough, Taz almost quit football after his second year because he wanted to go back and play footy with his mates from the country. Eddie put in a lot of work to get him to stay at the club.
